Wiring Harness Preventive maintenance
I always use DeOxit (first100% and then5% before replugging), and just a little schmear of dielectric grease on the tighter connectors.

Vintage License Plates
I would not recommend you do that. FIRST, check the local laws to see if you can do to them. You probably have a very limited number of things you can do, like washing, and maybe just touch up the numbers. Most people I talked to thought they would strip it to bare metal, and repaint with modern paint, which you can't do, because then they wouldn't be authentic antique license plates. That's why the best condition antique plates coats a lot.

Exhaust tailpipe ideas
I was thinking about puttng two glasspacks together in tandem, with just some plain or polished straight pipes. The muffler shop tells methey can fabricate a V splitter. I really hate it when you see a "sports car" that has dual tailpipes with smoke coming out of only ONE pipe! :devious:

280z(automatic) PEEL OUT
Do what I do... turn on some oldies on the radio, rev the engine a few times, and when the light turns green sit back and wave bye-bye, and smile, because there's a cop up a few blocks ahead. Then cruise along.

Vintage License Plates
eBay is loaded with people selling vintage plates. Also, I see them at classic car car shows & cruise-ins. I was thinking about getting one for my car, but on Ohio, you first need to register your car as an antique, which means you can only drive to car shows & cruise-ins, andthen you can put on your antique plates. So that means you can have antique plates on a daily driver, orthe like. Check your local regulations before buying antique plates.

Rally Clock ~ Clocks ~
Why not just get yourself a PDA? You can get a whole bunch of rally clocks, timers(in seconds & cents), and stuff for free, plus GFPS navigation, trip/expense logging software, free MP3 players, and almost anything else. I won't mention video games. Even a DVD viewer! All without cutting up your dashboard. You know... I wouldn't be sirprised if thr standard 2-inch aviation timer wouldn't fit in there.

280z(automatic) PEEL OUT
He must be hanging with some ricers. They like to smoke tires, along with whatever illegal tobaccy they can get. A waste of tires, gas, and time. Besides, if you can spin your tires, that means you have terrible traction.

Fuel injection chip?
Changing the tension of the spring will affect the signal the AFM sends to the ECU. The plug covers an air bypass screw, but there's no documention about what it's for or how to adjust it. IMO, it allows some air to get behind the flap, so it doesn't deflect as much, or dampens any oscillating.

Fuel injection chip?
You can get a good used ECU for a LOT less than 500. So before you go buying a new one of those, you better make sure all your sensors (AFM, water temp, TPS, etc.), are working perfectly, and the connections are as "A-1" as you can get. Look for vacuum leaks, new fuel filter, air filter, etc., etc., Then get a new ECU. Otherwise, even a new one won't work. BTDT. Don't forget to go read all the pertinent documentation, like the "280Z fuel injection book." That document itself could probably help you. BTW, Are you driving your 280Z around WA in THIS weather???

Fuel injection chip?
Dude, There's no "chip" on the ECU (Eletronic Control Unit.) It's just a dumb box, like a transistor radio, that takes inputs from sensors and opens the injectors as needed. As far as any of us can tell, there's no way to adjust it, even if it needed to be adjusted, or when installed at the factory. The best thing you can do is to make sure all your connections are perfect with no corrosion, and the sensors are working properly. there are about 18 documents you need to get & read and do the job yourself. Are you SURE that guy was an expert on the Datsun engines? from his repair suggestion, it sounds like he only knows modern fuel injection, of which I've heard many times, "Sure, we service fuel injected engines. We're experts at those." There isn't anything with a microchip in it on a 280Z, unles you recently got a new radio system. Welcome to the website. thx

Ignition Kill Switch
As an experiment remove the wire for the battery side with the engine running. The engine should stop. If that's the trick, just put your switch on that.

Smokey & the Bandit Trivia
They edit all the "TV" movies. I tried the movie (DVD) with the alternative languages ( French & Spanish.) Talk about funny!! It was totally (wrong) different..

Smokey & the Bandit Trivia
Jackie Gleason was given credit for inventing the phrase "Sum-bitch," but I also heard him say "sum-a-bitch" once ( furneral procession scene.) once Except for Star Wars, Smokie & the Bandit was the highest-grossing movie that year ($200 Million) and the most almost wasn't made because the film company didn'tlike it ( just another car chase movie.) the theme behind the Bandit III movie was a bet that Sheriff Justice couldn't ferry a giant stuffed fish from Miami to Big & Little Enos's ranch in TX in so many hours. It looks like this movie will air! Sun. Feb. 18 10:30pm CMTV Mon. Feb. 19 8:00pm CMTV

Smokey & the Bandit Trivia
veritech- No, I didn't knowthe answer. I though that maybe somebody read the book (if there is one) and knew the answer. Usually books give more details that aren't included in the movie. FYI: Did you know Burt Reynolds is 1/2 Cherokee? His mom was full-blooded Cherokee (from a reservation and everything.) Also, after Bandit picks up the girl, and after she changes clothes, she says, "Did you know we're going 110? We're going 110! And then they have a shot of the speedometer ( from a crazy angle so you can barely see it. The needle really was on 110 (kmh) or 70 MPH. I don't think you could actually go 110MPH on those limited-access highways. Remember, it was the mid-1970s and the push to convert to metric was on, and the inflated numbers added to the drama. Just before they left Cledus's house, Bandit tells Cledus to "Keep it wound up to a round 90" or about 80MPH which was is more believeable, but I'm still wondering how that big rig could make those sharp turns I saw at 80 MPH:surprised thx

Smokey & the Bandit Trivia
No way! The stripes on the Mustang (which had a V-8 under the hood) was to mimic the Shelby cars. The Mustang II was a great car for the time, and there are Mustang II clubs all over.

Smokey & the Bandit Trivia
Maybe I'll look into that Bandit III thing someday. On the part ofthe original question, if you've ever seen the movie, the beginning has a song about the Bandit that says he was some kind of an extraordinary truck driver. So I think that's the answer, but there are no details about what extraordinary things he did. thx

Hagerty or other collector car insurance?
The biggest problem I see with the classic car insurance is that they require you to keep your car in a garage. Since mine is filled with cars, my Z stays in the driveway, and if it rains, I put the cover on.

Smokey & the Bandit Trivia
In the movie Smoke & the Bandit (Burt Reynolds, Jerry Reed, and Sally Field), Cletus tells the Bandit that Sheriff Justice is chasing him because he wants to be the guy to handcuff a legend. What was the Bandit was famous for doing before he makes the run to Texarcana, TX? What did he do to become a legend? thx

HI, I am really NEW!
Do you thnk your Z will still be running when he's ready to drive it? Duh, yeah it'll be around probably, but it'll be about 50 years old by then... It'll probably run on electricity made from all those recycled diapers, as in 1.2 Gigawatts, and the Mr. Fusion... nice hatt.

Stock- Which is the quickest?
What good are those ratings today? they were done 25 - 30 years ago, on the cars when they were pretty much new. But once in a great while, you'll see a that was restored to work about as good as new...
