There is a new car-oriented TV show coming soon on SpeedVision. The Car Show is supposed to be by car-guys for car guys. Top Gear will also be in rerun soon: The Car Show 7/13 10:00pm ET (SpedVision) Top Gear 7/23 2:00-3:00pm (History Channel)

I switched to using wood dowel pins instead of the plastic. They don't bend when you push them in, and one piece gives you dozens of pins.

Those sign people seem to be happier if they don't have to convert your graphics. Plus I've never really seen an accurate converted graphic tat was enlarged, but I'll look into that flexsign thing
  4. I am currently trying to repair a couple interior pieces, and make a new one. The two I'm repairing are the left lower dash cover and the right foot well harness cover. the foot well cover is getting so,me aluminum angle reinforcement, and should be done. The lower dash cover has the end broken off, by the hood handle, so I can't see where it attaches, and I would like to ask if anyone has a good closeup photo of that end, or just the entire part. Attached are two photos of the broken end, and the lower dash cover itself. The part I would like to make is a nice plastic cover for the right side, where the fusebox is on a 280Z. There is an unsightly fiberboard panel there and I would rather see a nicer cover, like the one on the left side, that covers ECU.
  5. Mine looks like the one on the left, but with a few pits. I filled the pits with J.B. Weld, and polished the whole thing to a nice shine.
  6. There was a short contest (a drag race) between all the Zed models on Top Gear, and it was really surprising when the 260Z was only barely beaten by a 300ZX!
  7. A guy in my club has a nice 260Z and you can't really Tell it's a 260Z just from a quick look. OTPH, if you put a V-8 in it, it would be just the same as any other V-8 Z!

Is there anyone good with as graphics editor here? I have been unable to find a good Datsun logo in EPS format to give to the sign printer for enlarging, to make some great big magnetic logos for autocross and show. My goal is something about 20 x 10 inches (50 x 25 cm) thxZ
  9. IMO, it's not -THE- 240Z, the first of the famous Z cars, and it's not a 280Z, the one with the biggest engine of the series. It's in-between the two more notable S30 models, so it doesn't get noticed, along with the other things mentioned. fwiw

Those air dams really seem to simplify the lamp mounting. I'm going to ru outto the JY soon to see if I can get a pair of Mustang or Fusion fog lamps. I know their in those ugly plastic boxes, but cheap is cheap.

Here's an idea for the headlight harness- It seems you could use it to operate a set of fog lamps or driving lamps? It would probably simplify the wiring a lot, as I don't think I can get any more 12 gauge wires through my firewall grommet. :classic:

Aircraft are required to operate on the 72 MHz frequencies. You probably made a type there. I'm still using 75 MHZ as it's just fine for my stuff.
  13. That was exactly the first I had to do when I got my car.
  14. Would anything change if you only replaced the rear springs, dampers, and bushings? I think it would line up the back wheels better than before, but there really isn't anything to adjust in the back. thxZ
  15. The best thing would be to get Datsun to make all-new wiring harnesses using the latest wire
  16. Yeah, Steve's topic.
  17. It's Sarah's topic. She has control on the direction it goes. Olzed- I'm not surprised at how people like the real classics, even when there are other (fancy) cars around. We have a "cars & coffee" event here on Saturdays, and the last time I was there, I saw 8 or so Ferraris, a few Lotuses (Lotii?) and a few other big-dollar sportscars (Porsche, Mercedes, etc.) hese are all new or newer cars. There were just as may people visiting the S30s as were there by the Ferraris. Maybe people just walked by ALL the cars, but at least the older people seemed to spend a little more time by the S30s and newer Z cars. I should've taken my digital recorder, because some of the stories were really surprising!

Has anyone considered any of the domestic styles of lamps? The newer Mustangs and others have a fog/driving lamp that is long and narrow. Aside from the peculiar way it's mounted (to the Mustang's lower bodywork,) it looks like it might work under the bumper on an S30. If I knew how to remove one easily, I might try to get one from a JY and see if I could make a mounting bracket with some adjusters.
  19. Autozone and other places list them, but I have not had a change to look at them personally yet.

Welcome. I've been involved with R/C for about 20 years, but my stuff is all on 75 MHZ
  21. Yeah, I really do get it, madkaw. Young people nowadays have lost the ability to make a useful statement about anything, in proper English, or even in complete sentences. That is, without using the work 'like,' incorrectly, several times or a LOT of urban slang.

I remember the vacuum advance dashpots on the distributors for older (muscle) cars moved easily if you sucked on the hose, unlike the stock L28. OTOH, I'm thinking now that an oil-filled one for the throttle might be so good as as it would probably give resistance in both directions. I was trying to figure out how to get the BCDD off but it looks impossible to get your hand up there to reach the screws. You could still cover it and maybe screw in a few nipples for vacuum taps?
  23. Cars don't or can't get sick. If it was "sick" then it should've been in the shop a looong time ago for a major overhaul or rebuild.

Many Carburetors used a dashpot for the same reason. There are also oil-filled thingies that operate like the dashpot, and look like a little shock absorber.
  25. Could you replace the plastic handle with something if you needed to? I haven't been to the JY lately, but it sounds reasonable if you could remove or cut the grip part off a JY car and put it on the Z. The only other thing I can think of right now is to wrap the Z grip with leather or something, like twine. This could be a good one for a tech article, with some more details and photos.
