Since wer're talking about cars, I prefer that "eye candy" refer to cars too. Maybe your idea of some girl sticking her buns out at you is pleasing, but I'd rather check out the whole chick, personally. I think it probably is a good thing that we get this subject defined, or at least well "discussted" at least so people have a mor defined idea of it.
  2. For the moment, Toecutter, you can have a laugh at the Yanks, knowing that winter is coming to the northern teritories (but not for 4 or 5 months!)

If you swap the bumpers on a 280Z with ones from a 240Z, you lose about 3 feet of length. HAHAHAHAHAHAJAJA!... LOL *SNORT*

I said that E, and I think you got it misinterpreted. I said that some people think eye candy is what they find appealing on a car (paint flames, flares, subwoofers, mirrors,) but like you, I think "eye candy" is a nice car, i.e. a classic MG or Duesenberg, Mustang, ZED, etc., nicely restored and kept. What's your take on neon lights inside & under the car? I can't think of any good it would have under the car... BTW, Maybe you should run for President next time...

Bravo!:classic:But are you saying all those Z cars with the GTO conversions are riced because they didn't upgrade the engine too? It was originally intended to be with some lowering springs & wider wheels. That was in 1980- something when the Z was still pretty much new, with probably low miles on the car & engine. thx
  6. Good start on yer video. I forgot it's winter (or is it Spring?)

Then you should call those hot rods, street rods and megabuck custom cars rice too. The purpose-built replicas shouldn't be considered rice, unless you look MUCH deeper. Mostly, you'll see real performance engines (like an L28 or BMW V12 even) and other "approved" upgrades to the car, but none of the S30 replica cars should be thought of as rice. If it was rice, you wuldn't see them at concours car shows! Will- he's calling your GTO rice!

When I got my other 280Z in 1993, people referred to it as a rice burner, because it was an Asian import. Not what it means now.

No! In the DD class, I'm entitled to certain custom interior appointments, and since my dash emblem is period-correct, and tastefully done, it'll stay. I don't think I'll put a Ferrari horn button on the steering wheel, or cavallino decals on the wheels tho.cheers

I don't think so. Even the "F" lawyers were after the people marketing these for a while, because they were probably afraid people would probably try to sell them off as real Italian jobs. And it's not just a few pieces of bodywork. You get a whole new body to cover your S30, and you add on lights, trim, etc. It's real nostalgia, a faithful replica of one of the most famous race cars of the 60s. In fact, you can see the lines of the "F" 250 GTO in many contemporary cars- even the Zed.

You know... Usually when some people bash rice stuff, they usually get hammered by those wqho advocate the Freedom of Expression, and adamantly state that any such things are the expression of ones artistic qualities. Actually, it's just hormones allowing themselves to take over ones good judgement [insert political/morality statements here.]

I admit I have a long magnet thing that I use to cover the paint chips on the hatch pulled off by the Datsun emblem (PO hlued! it on) but until I can get to the bodywork or some paint that really matches, I need to cover the spots. Do you think a "PininFarina" dash emblem is ricey? It's from the same era, the 280Z emblem crumbled off, and Pininfarina made sport car bodies...

I think you forgot to include all the chromed and carbon fibre engine parts that are mostly for looks, and everything under the car has to be painted gloss black. All for looks or the perception that it would "look fast" which includes the stickers. I know some people can actually afford to add go-fast parts to the engine wthe stickers. To me, "eye-candy" means a car that is restored or maintained to all the correct (factory or otherwise) colors, parts, and features, albeit that it is sometimes possible to improve on the original design; on a 280Z the fuel injection rail is an example, as well as removing emmisions equipment, which allows one to see a nicely maintained engine.

The S30s were fairly plain when they came out. Then when the ZX started, they were advertised as being luxurious and having all the fancy stuff the "expensive" cars had. That's about the closest to rice the (ZX) was. Remember, you can rice any car. Even a Jeep or a VW Beetle...

I couldn't get anything from that link (need to join first?), could you give some directions? What forum section & topic name? BTW, the video sucked. Actually, the web server was so slow it took 15 minutes to see the video, and if you restarted, it would buffer data for a minute, then play 5 seconds worth, etc... thx

I would say rice would be the stuff that doesn't do anything beyond what the car was designed to do... huge REAR spoilers on a FRONT-wheel-drive car, or a non race-car coffee-can mufflers for an engine that has to work hard to push the air through the can lights inside the car for decoration only lights outside & underneath the car for decoration STROBE LIGHTS fake hood/intake and body vents Big speakers that require an amplifier just for itself video screen(s) or the driver basically anything annoying or distracting or creates an unsafe car, or unsafe environment for the driver and/or passengers

I don't remember specifically, if the engines I've seen with the rocker box vent were carberetted or F.I. (the details get blurred together after you've seen a few hundred.):paranoid:

He was asking about putting the little filter on. I agree it does affect the way the engine runs, but you can adjust things to make it run. I decided to leave the ugly hose on for those reasons. Unless somebody can think of something correct for that.
  23. TomoHawk posted a post in a topic in Open Discussions
I was told by a couple guys that it's just for looks- one less ugly black hose to look at. since it's only drawing air through the filter, which comes from just before the TB, it should not affect performance much. I think you go need to agjust idle speed and such to make up for the lost vacuum, which you will notice that the engine will stall if you pull that hose from the TB. thx

If the pin is part of the rivet head, how do you push it out, or back in? What's holding the rivet in tight?
