Strange noise from engine compartment
I had a similar situation a couple years ago. For me, the noise was on and off for a bit, but progressed to a full time thing. Turned out to be bad idler pulleys. I too couldn't find the source of the noise and ended up taking the car to a Nissan dealer as the noise had passed bearable.

A ScuzzyZ Model?
Well yes, but where would the builder get the replacement panels? I doubt that MSA, Courtesy, or NissanParts.cc would have them...

A ScuzzyZ Model?
That's incredible. The attention to detail, the time to make the rust look just right... Someone has too much time on their hands, methinks.

How about a couple that just say Datsun? Slightly worse for wear, but still pretty nice considering...

paint code location
On the ZX (s130) it is a foil sticker on the radiator support, passenger side.

Beautiful Z found near by my home.
Bart, it's always nice to have another Z owner nearby. You never know when you might need a hand with something; having someone with knowledge nearby is a wonderful thing. Besides, the owner might have a few lines for parts that you don't know about.

I'm changing the color of my interior. Fun, fun, fun.
Been a bit delayed getting things done, but progress is being made. Alas, I have found rust...shouldn't be surprised of course, but it not something I was really looking forward to finding. This rust was caused by the undercoating trapping water, of course. It seems that this area was not welded, but was sealed with some sort of putty (for lack of a better word). The screwdriver went right through the metal in a few places, and this sealant just broke away. The affected area is no more than 3 inches wide by 2 inches. The dash is coming along, just waiting for the temp to get where the bumper stuff will be happy to do its thing.

Low Mileage 72 240Z on Ebay
Not digging into the car, it looks pretty sharp and it is in some great (if rather eclectic) company. Besides the passenger side mirror, carpet, and dash cap (all reversible) it looks pretty nice and straightforward -great paint, minimal body line deviance (driver side hood, but just a tiny little bit). If it is in as good of shape as they claim, that may not be a bad price, especially considering the location: pretty much dead center of the rust belt. Here's the link to the company website: http://www.stlouiscarmuseum.com

I wish I saw more Z's
I took the S130 to the dealership to inquire about getting a new handbrake cable. They asked for the VIN, which I recited from memory, and they told me I had it wrong. It was not nearly long enough. I explained the VIN situation, and had to eventually pull the car around so they could see it for themselves. Funny, sad, and very annoying. Only one technician from the bays knew what the car was... Brian (BRE-240z) and any other WNC Z owners, if you go to Anderson Nissan ask for the tech with the last name Anderson (no relation to the dealer). He knows his Z cars.

I wish I saw more Z's
I live in Jackson County, North Carolina. As far as I know, there is only one other driven Z car older than mine, and it is an early (mfg. 78) zx. I saw it in the parking lot of Walmart one day, and pulled up right behind it and waited for the owner. She was rather nice, but I think the car is no longer being driven (someone asked me when I wrecked mine, which I haven't...so just guessing as to it's fate...). There are several members here within a couple hours of me, but I haven't come across them personally. A couple weeks ago I came across a Sheriff's License checkpoint, and the Deputy told me "I haven't seen one of these in a long time. They used to be quite the car." Of course I replied "Still is quite the car!" and he let me go without even checking my license... In some ways it's nice to have the only pre Z31 car around; it's easy to find in the parking lot. However, I have to suppress my inclinations to drive as the car wants me to, as it would be far to easy to report me, again because it's the only one in the county...

Another what do you think price thread
Regarding 3) Second the thoughts on DAS. I had the M Roady shipped from Taos, NM to Delray Beach, FL for about $800. That was a "door to door" delivery, and took about a week. Since the car in question runs, shipping it shouldn't cost a fortune-last I checked there was a $200 surcharge for shipping a non-op car. It sounds as though the 16yo has a z itch, and the owner would rather not have a minor driving the car, the insurance would be mighty high... Good on you for picking it up, now you just need a larger garage...

Steering column spring
It would be very helpful if you were to post a few photos of the parts in question. Currently I have the steering wheel off of my 79 zx, I'll take photos of the column tonight when I get home and post them later on, if that would be of any assistance.

Removing my mirror
Here's an example of what may happen... If you are going to do it, you may as well do it right. It may be hard to see, but that red line on the stainless is indeed on the stainless. Very poor masking all around.

I'm changing the color of my interior. Fun, fun, fun.
Slowly, but surely, this project is getting nearer completion. The doors are pretty much done, though when I removed the masking tape, some of the black came off I had intended on covering the speaker area with Good Stuff, in a manner similar to the center speaker location, but as soon as I applied pressure to the honeycomb, it crumbled half away so I cut it all out... I cut out some of the backbone of the dash so that i could get the contoured part closer together. I applied a multi purpose glue that was good for plastic/vinyl and after letting it cure for a day, I applied the Good Stuff. FOR FUTURE REFERENCE: If you are going to apply Good Stuff to the cracks in your dash, be sure to mask off everything else. Wherever the stuff goes, it sticks, and it is very good at staying stuck.

Craigslist got these rims if you want?!?!?
Yeah they're pretty cool I think.. The point that Stephen was making is that they are not stock. Period aftermarket, perhaps. Stock, no.
