Hi Rick, Our age goup (according to the latest stats. on the poll) account for 18% of the respondents. Looks like there is a lot of us 50 year olds around, driving a chick-magnet....hehehe. It would be great, if we could indeed meet some time and swap some Zed notes. Cheers Darryl :beard:

Hey DAZZA, You and I seem to think alike. I wonder if we look alike. Are you built like Big Arnie Schwartzenpepper and as good looking as Mel Gibson????????????? Me neither. Rick Hi there Rick, Yes, we do seem to think along some similar lines. As for appearance, I would say I have more common with Danny De Vito than Big Arnie or Mel Gibson. Cheers Darryl
  5. 1. I can't reach my license unless you hold my beer 2. Sorry, I didn't realize that my radar detector wasn't on. 3. Aren't you the guy from the village people? 4. Hey you must have been going 125mph just to keep up with me. 5. I thought you had to be in good physical condition to be a cop 6. Bad cop! No donut! 7. You're gonna check the trunk, aren't you? 8. I was going to be a cop, really, but I decided to finish high school. 9. I pay your salary. 10. That's terrific, the last guy only gave me a warning also. 11. Is that a 9mm? It's nothing compared to this .44 magnum! 12. What do you mean, have I been drinking? You're a trained specialist. 13. Do you know why you pulled me over? Good, at least one of us does. 14. That gut doesn't inspire too much confidence, bet I can outrun you. 15. Didn't I see you get your butt kicked on Cops? 16. Is it true people become cops because they are too dumb to work at McDonalds? 17. I was trying to keep up with traffic. 18. Yes, I know there are no other cars around-that's how they are far ahead of me. 19. Well, when I reached down to pick up my bag of crack, my gun fell off my lap and got lodged between the brake pedal and gas pedal, forcing me to speed out of control. 20. When an officer says, "Gee, your eyes look red. Have you been drinking?" Reply, "Gee, your eyes look glazed, officer. Have you been eating donuts?" Cheers Darryl

I agree with what you said about the Haines cct. diagram and needing an electron microscope. I cannot answer what your problem may be, but I managed to overcome a similar situation with trying to read the tiny cct. diagram supplied. I solved it by getting hold of a photocopier that prints out A3 sheets and magnified it to that size from A4. Worked out well. Just for good measure I had the sheet laminated and now keep it in my garage as a handy reference. Easy to read and should last for ages. Cheers Darryl :beard:

I agree with 1 Bravo 6: Age and wisdom tends to slow exhuberence. Reminds me of the story: A young bull and and old bull look down from a hill at a group of cows. The young bull say "let's race down there and do one". The old bull says "let's take our time and do the lot" ... Cheers Darryl

Hi Driftmonkey, This may be a good topic for another poll ???? "Who has or had a Fume Problem". Heaps has been written on this topic and a search will find a mine of information on it. When I got my 240z, the fumes were bloody bad with the windows down. Since then I have been whittling away at it, and things are getting better bit by bit. To date I have: Extended the exhaust tail pipe tip so that it is no longer short of the rear bumper but level with it. Replaced the tail pipe that came straight out, with one that is angled down at the end. Removed, re-sealed and tightened the rear tail light assemblies so that nothing would get past the rubber seals. I found the units to be not tightened very well. Have fiddled with the rear hatch adjustment... not seating as good as I would like yet. Have just purchased a genuine Nissan replacement main rear hatch rubber (not very cheap...A$265 about US$135), but yet to be fitted. My experience, is that there is probably more than one problem, so its a case of working through all the possible areas where the exhaust emissions can be sucked in through. Good luck with your endeavours. Cheers Darryl :beard:

All I want to do is stop the breeze from mucking up my hair. (what little there is left of it), when the windows are down. Rick. Yes Rick, Ditto. I could not have said it better myself. :beard: (minus some hair)

Hi there 1 Bravo 6, To each there own, but on this topic I am with you, in keeping my 240z as original as possible. Cars in this condition can only go up in price with time as they become harder to come by. Cheers Darryl :beard: (but minus some of the hair) :classic:

Group 5 here. Well 1 Bravo 6, it looks like at 54, I slip under the bar that you are currently holding as the "father" of this group. Oops!!! Just noticed we have two group 6 amongst us, so you are off the hook. Cheers Dazza

Hi Lee, I believe compliance plating only commenced in January 1971. As your car was plated in January and considering shipping time from Japan, it would be indeed safe to say you have a late 70 model. Cheers Darryl

Hi there 1 Bravo 6, Great to hear that you have chosen the path of originality as well. It is indeed tempting to modify, with all sorts of top stuff available. However, with the passing of time, cars in or near original condition will become more valued as they become scarcer. The ideal solution would be to have 2 Zed's; one to keep stock standard and the other to modify to one's own personal taste. Hmmm...... Cheers Darryl :beard:
  18. Hi George, oops!!!! My mistake, I should have taken more notice of your location before replying One way of mounting your air horns/compressor without drilling holes into the bodywork is to make up a bracket to mount them off, and attach the bracket to a bolt(s) already in use somewhere in the engine bay. Cheers Darryl :classic:
  19. Hi George, I am not aware of what State/Road Dept. restrictions you may have, but the way I would go with the air horns is to: Disconnect the wiring from the original horn and use this to drive a relay that operates the compressor direct from the battery. This way the air horns will work from the steering wheel horn button. Conversely you can leave your exsiting horn connected and take power from it to achieve the above. You could then if you wish fit a switch to the relay fitted to switch the air horns on or off and still keep use of the original horn at all times. I would not worry about the low volume from the original horn, spoiling the air horn note. My 240z has a switch fitted discreetly by the previous owner. It is sited under the dash, just next to the dash light dimmer control. It is easily acessed, not easily seen and is not actually on the dash. (my car is rhd so this advice may need modification) As for where to position the air compressor for the horns..... I will leave that one for some-one else to reply to Cheers Darryl

Hi Alan, Once again you have me enthralled with your Zed car history knowledge. I agree with what was said by another member recently, that you should put all your thoughts to print, to help us others as a source of reference. Since aquiring my 240Z VIN HS30 00145 about five months ago, I have been earnestly trying to find out its build date. The previous owner said it was a 69 model, but everything I have been able to find out so far indicates that it was manufactured around October 1970. Looking at a register of local cars here in Brisbane, and what I can find on the net with what owners have as build dates for their cars, also seems to support it. As you say though, there is certainly a lot of different thoughts on the subject and some very strongly held views, with not everyone agreeing. Keep the information flowing Cheers Darryl :classic:

Obviously we have an automotive terminology change here To us Aussies, a weathershield is a clear perspex device that is fitted to a driver or passenger side window, that deflects the air from coming in through the open window whilst driving. Are these still available for a 240Z ? Cheers Darryl :beard:

Hi there Alfadog, First off, my 1970 model 240Z has no switches fitted as standard to the positions you show. They may have been fitted by a previous owner for spotlights or whatever, possibly. The orignal seats are of a vinyl manufacture. The following site on eBay is advertising replacement covers in vinyl or with velour (that fluffy/fuzzy stuff) inserts. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1848617631 Cheers Darryl

I am also in the process of changing out a rubber (hatch) seal and would also appreciate any input members could offer that would allow removal of the contact cement glue, without affecting the two pack paintwork. Would petrol/gasoline, or kerosine (used in moderation) do the trick ? Cheers Darryl
