As most of my 1971 240Z is now gutted, and I had planned to strip entire car to metal for rust removal/paint, I've found the rear deck has some type of material (wood board?) attached to the metal. While it seems intact, and I could likely just paint over it, I'm curious what it is and for (sound proofing?).

Thoughts?

Yeah if Zkid is right it just pops off but it might break the little plastic clips, they never designed those interior pieces to come out nicely they always break on me :(.

Otherwise I'm not sure what your talking about can u attach a picture?

I had a look at your project don't be put off by the comments I made on the photo's I'm mearly stating that I know how much work is ahead of you and good luck :).

Are you refering to the cover for the spare tyre?

It's tehre to stop the carpet sinking when you put stuff in the boot and gives it a firmer finish I guess. Should just lift out no problem :)
