Battery ground wire question

Update: found the burning wire. It's the Black wire with white stripe. It's the wire that goes from the neg terminal of the ignition coil to the ignition switch. It has burned away the insulation way up into the harness and it looks like it was fused with the White wire with black stripe. I'm trying to get the dash off but it's a chore. Is there a post with instructions on removing the dash?

I really appreciate your help guys!

Well, instead of just saying "Use the Search!" to which everyone complains about anyway...

Here's a few links to several articles that address what you're doing.

FYI ALL:

Apparently copying a URL link from one post to another does not bring over the ACTUAL link but only the label. I had posted from a previous thread where the same question was asked and I copied my URL Links. I was not aware of the "bug".

These should work for you.

Got the dash out. Evidently there are a few changes between the S30 and the S130. The burned wire is burned from the ignition switch all the way to the coil. While it is almost completely devoid of insulation it doesn't seem to have burned into any other wires.

I'm really glad I had to remove the dash. This car was NASTY. Mice, dirt dobbers, brown recluse spiders etc. Giving it all a good cleaning. Will also repair and paint the dash and replace the rotted speakers while it's out.

You might want to put your Year and Model in your Signature. It will help others in giving you more help.

I goofed and provided the 240 Dash Removal post I made years ago, thankfully it helped you, but I can imagine that there were items that differed between the models.

I repaired all the wiring. Getting ready to install the restored and freshly painted dash. Before I try to crank it again I was wondering if there is a regular fuse option for the ignition? I'm ordering a new fusible link as well but don't want to cook it.

I just spent this week scratching the old melon trying to solve my zed's big time stubbornness not to get started! Last weekend all was good. 5:30 am Monday I found myself turning the key without hearing the freely spinning music of the engine starting up.

After many meetings with a friend who is a Zed Head and reading your comments here I have found tranquility base, Houston!

The main culprit was the ground wire connected to the fire wall (the oxidation is now sanded off) from the battery along with the starter signal wire replacement, and new battery cables and the new ignition switch. Thanks for your well learned insights!
