rich as on idle

Featured Replies

I have read alot of treads but no one has actualy said what to do to help...so hopefully someone can? My Flat top carbs are rich as on idle. sooted up plugs and black smoke. All goes away on a hard drive. The float level lookes good, actually one is low and that is the carb that is rich. I have the right oil there are no air or fuel leaks. help please I need advice on what to do next....

And before any of us here in the USA tell him to ditch the flat tops, note that he's in New Zealand, and the flat tops in the rest of the world were not the big problem that ours here were.

But because of that, I don't know how much experience there is on this site with the non-emission flat tops carbs, so knowledgeable advice may be in short supply.

Hi yes i'm down under as they say. You are correct in no emmission we only got colour TV in 1974!!! Emmission in the land of the green not needed in '75.

Hopefully someone out there can help?

Also anyone know where to get new main jet needles???

I recently had the same condition with my 73 240, I corrected it with new power valves, needle and seat, cleaning.
