A friend gave me a 78 280Z that needs some TLC. All seems well but needs some fixing up. He said it will run but needs a fuel pump relay. He had it hardwired to make it run, but has sat for about 2 years since he ran it last.

He gave me 2 starters and both have shorted silinoids (sp). The hot wire coming from the battery to the siliniod is shorted to the chassis ground-- I've tested it with a meter. When ever the battery is hooked up, the started starts turning the engine over.

There is some Jerry rigging on the wiring harness by the front passenger strut tower, just rear of the AC tank. This is on some white wires approx 10ga.

If you have any idea what I'm talking about, and can help, PLEASE respond!!

Thanks

If I understand correctly, the shot solinoid in the starter has caused the starter gear to stay engaged with the flywheel gear, prolonging the starter's engagement with the engine. I would get youreself a brand new starter, and then work your way back through the wiring to find where the prblem lies. I could be totally wrong, but that's my take on it from what I understand.
