Welcome aboard! I just looked through your gallery....certainly a sleeper. I would imagine you have surprised a few with it!

Careful Rob, Will (HLS30.com) may not like the way you phrased those words and get all over you! However, I agree with you 100%.

Jay, Do you have any pick-a-part yards in your area? They may have one. If not, the pick-a-parts and salvage yards have a national network system for locating parts. Just some food for thought.

Well Jeramy, Z cars are without a doubt great cars to own and drive. IMO, for drag racing a Camero is better suited. Basically, it has to do with the rear suspension....the Z has indepenant rear suspension and the Camero has a ridgid axle rear suspension (better for keeping the full width of a tire's tread on the race track....traction). If your not totally hooked on drag racing, the Z is great for autocross and or road racing. Owning and driving a Z car on your favorite back roads, without being involved in any sort of racing, is also great fun. Call it a hunch but, I think that might be one of the reasons we own and love our Z cars. If you truely love the Z cars, do what you can to it to please you......it will certainly grow on you! Ask any member.

Will, it's really simple......I think TomoHawk is a jerk. Sure I'm opinionated, get over it! When TomoHawk actually starts contributing something useful to this site, other than just babbling on about whatever, maybe I'll think differently about him. I do apologize for ranting about TomoHawk and derailing the post, but quess what? I'm human as well as anyone else. Can I be forgiven your holiness?

If this occurs at idle, it's likely that the RPM is just too low for the alternator to produce the required charging voltage. This is a common thing. Does the voltage come up when you rev the motor?

    Amazing!!!!

What an articulate answer TomoHawk.....you're amazing! I don't think Jeramey cares that you have a 280Z or how you dream about driving it or what you think it was designed for!!! He simply asked about 1/4 mile performance and how it performs stock! If you need some attention, go talk to your mommy! Dawd, why do I even bother....your hopeless!

From the outside it looks to me like a relatively nice 71 with paint and a G-nose! The rest of the car looks to be the typical old and used up Z car destine for a resto job. I wouldn't give him more than $2K for it...at best!

The Solstice is probably a nice car, but to me it looks like a Honda S2000 crossed with a Mazda Miata. Different strokes for different folks, I guess! I always thought that if Nissan had come out with a new Z that was very identifiable with the early Zs, but with modern engineering and plenty-O-horsepower, they would have really hit the nail on the head! But what did we get.....a great car that looks like a TOAD! :stupid: But thats just my view!
  13. BadDog, Regarding the valve adjustment.....use a socket/ratchet on the crank pulley bolt to turn the engine over. Take out the plugs before turning it over as it will be more difficult if you leave them in. If you don't have a shop manuaul, get one! Take your time and double check your adjustments after tightening the adjuster nuts.

If you've never gone to the Monterey Historical Races, you are certainly missing a very cool event!!! Eric, Jon, Dave, and myself drove up to Laguna Seca this last friday. Once we got to Paso Robles we went up G14, as the other guys said they had never driven it. I think they really enjoyed the curves and next to zero traffic....what a hoot! That evening we hung out in the city of Monterey and checked out the auctions....tons of cars to drool over! Some of my favorites were the F40, Shelby GT350, and of course the Cobras. Saturday we met-up at the Z Car Corral in the infield. As usual, we had fog up until about noon time, but that Monterey for you! Besides all the outragous race cars running around the track, you could spend time walking through the pits and the exhibits. One pretty cool deal went down....Sir Sterlin Moss drove the Mercedes he and Jenkins won the Mila Millia (spelling?) in for the last time. Jay Leno was his passenger...lucky bastard! It was a great time.....all the beautiful sounds of those 2, 4, 6, 8, and 12 cylinder engines screaming around the track! I found myself just laughing with joy as I watched! All I will say is, if you love cars, Monterey Historical Races are a must do event. This was my first year and will likely be the first of many now! The drive home was pretty fun as well. I drove by myself down the coast highway and besides getting around the slow cars and RVs, which didn't account to too many, I completely enjoyed all the curves and sights. I wish you all could have been there! Oh, and thanks to Mark from ZONC for his help in getting the corral pass and being an all around good guy!

Bill, You can rebuild them. Its a matter of replacing the pivot pins. Drill rod is a suitable material for pin replacement. Also, he recommends going to a slightly larger diameter than the stock pins, for obvious reasons. Drill rod is available in many diameteres.

What a guy you are Bill. Thanks for indicating that no bad was intended from my previous post! One comment about research and reading books......when you don't know about a subject it's always a good place to start. It will certainly decrease the learning curve and likely save you some $$$ and time. You are correct however, that at some point you just have to jump in and start swimming. You'll be a lucky person if you can find that VERY patient person that will show you what to do correctly. Don't they have auto shop in schools any more? There is an alternative of course! Get a great education, land a very good paying job, and then have someone else do all the work for you....boring and you won't learn much about cars except that they cost!!! By the way Bill, how old are you now?
  17. Patients grasshopper! Rome was not built in a day! And to answer the question of....are they ever done? No! After two and a half years of intense research and labor, my 240 was finally a driver again (see my pics). The truth is, most guys and or gals who have the car thing going on will tell you the same. Now if you've seen my pics, you might think its done! Well, it is....at least until the next little project come about. As an example...I'm currently fabricating and buying parts to change the front suspension on my 240 tom have complete adjustability for camber and caster as well as relocate the LCA pivot points for less bumpsteer. Again, stay focused on the end result....what you want it to be! The day you have it done (sort of anyway) and are driving it around all prowd, you will be glad you stuck with it. GET-R-DONE

Have you considered buying a shop manual?

Ian, I understand you are a really young fellow and have the Z car bug. The best thing you can do to learn about these cars and their issues is to do some research! The archives on this site has some much information it will make your head swim. Pretty much evrything that one would want to do or know about has been done and answered many times already. Every newbee generally asks the same questions about the old Zs, which is OK but, you have to learn to use the search function to hunt down the answers before you start asking on a post.....this is why some questions go unanswered. Also, it helps to purchase books on these cars and learn the history and such. We help those who help themselves......OK, sometimes we give out freebees. Believe me when I say that many members, myself included, have gone though this exercise. Good hunting!

The only picture I have is from the add and I currently have no way of posting it. From what I can see from the picture in the add, the car looks bone stock on the exterior and doen't appear to have been wrecked....but what can one tell from a small black/white add? Give the person a call if your interested. I can certainly check this car out for all the usual bad spots if someone is truely interested and has called the seller.

First off, I'm not selling my Z car! However, I do look through the paper just to see whats for sale and came across this add in the Ventura County area Trader Express. This 240 still has the old standard issue slotted mags. I thought that someone might be interested! 1972 DATSUN 240Z - 5 spd. 6 cyl, Orange, original in and out, good cond. $2400 (805) 896-5548
  24. So Victor, I thought you said you went to a car show....looks like you spent most of your time drooling. I can't believe you let them crawl all over your roadster! Just out of curiousity, did you happen to see the Pamela Anderson Roast on the comedy channel........Oh! You would have loved it! :knockedou
