Dan, It could be, Those parts were pulled from cars that had been sacrificed to the rust god decades ago... I think Chris (26thZ) could answer that from either/both of his cars. Will
  4. I left a comment and saw Carls come up after leaving mine. "This is a beautiful car, but it has not been restored. Restored means only one thing-put back to as it was. This car is a wonderful "restomod." The owner has done a beautiful job of his modifications, and the car is gorgeous, but a car with modifications is not a restoration. This is a wonderful effort to do a very cool thing, but, please, do a little more research on the marque and model before trying to speak about it, and garner a full understanding of the terms you use so as not to dilute correct information. the opening blurb led me to believe the owner would be talking about his car...more than the host would be. William Stokes Great idea, excellent start, a few suggestions for improvement." Will

I am still working on it, and thanks to MikeW have a new approach to the problem-Thanks MikeW! I have not made it up to Ohio yet to get the lenses underway, because of my committment to getting Larys car on the right track, but as soon as that is sewn up, I will get up there and progress will be post haste! 11. As a way of further illustrating the difference between the advertised condition of the car, and the actual condition of the car, I will be placing one of the photographs used to advertise this car with, followed by several of the pictures that I took of the same area to show the the details. 1) Please note the fitament in the alignment of the PS headlight coveras the car was delivered. 2) Please note the fitament of the front bumper, and the headlight Nacelle to the fender-the end of the bumper extends behind the pocket Nissan made for it in the sheet metal, the fender is not aligned to the Nacelle, and the end of the bumper is not attached as Nissan calls for in their undated Datsun Sports 240Z Factory Service Manual. The reason for this compound misfit will be shown later in the series on the engine compartment. 3) Please note the incorrect windshield wipers, the artifacts under the paint around the windshield weatherstripping, and the drip rail trim, also note the condition of the stainless trim held by the weather strip. and the pits and scratches in the windshield-and the tape residue on the weatherstripping-extra was paid to remove all of the trim and the glass and repaint the car to Concours specification. 4) Please note the condition of the door glass windlass, weatherstripping and the stainless trim holding it at the base of the window glass. 5) Please note the artifacts under the paint around the quarter window opening, and the improper assembly and lack of restoration of the quarter window frame. The seals in the quarter windows were replaced, at reassembly, the left side and right side corner pieces were swapped, and hard water stains proving what was done-and not done were ignored. 6) Please note the artifacts under the paint around the gas filler-this actually includes the two rubber bumpers that are there to cushion the door as it is closed. You can also not the tape line at the rear side marker-Extra was paid to remove all of the trim and the glass and repaint the car to Concours specification. The gas cap and attachment are silver instead of golden cad plate as they came from Nissan. One thing I could not get to show was a picture of the inside of the passenger door. The Concours winning Restoration shop handling the documentation and correction of this car determined that a correct repair to the door was not cost effective given that the structural reinforcement inside the door was compromised, the door was tweaked(as further evidenced by a broken hinge-to be pictured in another series) as well as seriously dented, and the number of hours required to correct the sheet metal properly was more expensive than finding a new door here South Georgia. The door is available for inspection and is being held. Will
  12. The "as delivered" photographs are here: http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showgallery.php?cat=3526 Have a look at them after reading the explicit description Al chose to advertise the car with. Will
  13. Ebay no longer has the ad. Here is the wording of the original ad exactly as AL posted it on ebay, and the original photos. "Datsun Nissan Z 240Z Restored 1970 All New NOS Parts Up for bid is a Series 1 240Z. Production date of 3/70 it was one of the first 8500 made. This restoration includes over $25,000 in New and Genuine New Old Stock 240Z parts. Every last nut and bolt was removed, re-plated and restored. This Z was a personal project car that I took special pride in to make sure it was a true award winner. Nothing was left undone, completely restored interior includes and NEW Dash, New Door Panels, New Seats and New Carpet. All of the gauges including the clock work perfect. The factory spec rebuilt engine is a L24 block with a E31 head. Every part of the engine was disassembled and rebuilt to factory OEM specs. It has been professionally tuned and runs great. OEM 4 speed transmission is also rebuilt with all new parts. Overall every single part is brand new or restored to better then new condition. Please be advised that the paint work was not done to Concours requirements. If you wanted a true 100 point car you would need to have it repainted. During assembly it suffered a few bumps and bruises that will need to be fixed." Will

  16. In all likelyhood I will have a borrowed set of knobs by the middle of next week, and a set of molds shortly there after! I will order the casting supplies as soon as the knobs arrive, and have a set or two hopefully by the end of next week. I will also be pouring some of my other molds too, so if everything goes well, there should be several rare parts available. Will
  17. Leave it to me to say everything was pretty much done. The DS dog leg was repaired by bashing it in, closing it up with fiberglass, and filling the void with filler-visualize a baseball sized hole beaten in with a five pound hammer and rammed chock full of bog.. I am wondering where the reinforcement that should be under there is. I left the camera at home, and will post my cell pictures as soon as I find the cable. Looks like the most cost effective repair will be to replace the entire rear clip. Will
  18. John, :surprised:embarrass: Making a mold of that would not be worth the Wee little materials it would takeROFL...but I will set up the materials in a quiet room and leave you to it...:knockedou
  19. Yup, I still need the knobs! I will bring some mold making equipment to Amelia Island for little stuf-maybe as large as individual Seat Protectors...if someone will PM me some measurements... Will
  20. The final tally of sheet metal replacement is in, the hood, hatch, lower valence center panel, and passenger door will be replaced. Restoring them with metal bumping would cost more than replacing them. There are problems with replacing the chassis. In Ca they may well be $500 and findable, but then there is the shipping to get it here. Plus there could be legal ramifications later. Will

Be fair, He is just trying to make a buck-ridiculous shipping charges not withstanding. If people are too lazy to buy a club CD and check parts availability with their local dealer, that is their own doing. Though, from first hand knowledge, I am certain there are some dealers who don't bother going through Efast and hunting part numbers and then verifying them-it is just too easy to say "No Longer Available." If you check with your local club, they probably have a discount at the local dealer. Our local Club gets what the dealership employee pricing. Will
  22. hls30.com posted a post in a topic in Interior
Reddat sells predominantly what he buys at his local dealer-probably works there or close by-in watching over 100 of his auctions, four pieces were not available at the dealer-and they were all aftermarket or used. As an example he is still listing A new series 1 240z Console-not OEM, reproduction-I believe originally from MSA, and from what I understand from someone whjo bought one from him a year or more ago, the ashtray does not fit well-the reason MSA is no longer selling it. Will
  23. 1) Verify the FP relay and fuse! 2) Verify the fuel pump is good by running straight from the battery. then verify the fuse! Verify the FPR is working. 3) Disconnect the inlet fro m the fuel pump-gas should pour out of the hose if everything is primed. If not...apply air pressure to the hose(not with your mouth!) and listen to see if bubbles are heard. If not your inlet is blocked-apply more air pressure, or take wire and attempt to clear the line with that. 4) If there is a check valve in what you removed and replaced, be sure you oriented it properly. Will There is a check valve in the system be sure it isn't in backwards
  24. I tried Latex, but it shrinks and moulds made from it do not last. Now, I am using silicone molds and casting with urethane-treating the castable material and the filled mould to vacuum to ensure no bubbles in the cast parts-and to get all of the detail... The raw urethane parts will chalk if left in the sun, painting the mold before pouring the urethane does make the parts more UV stable, and the wet paint contacting the liquid uretahne and hardening under vacuum makes the color stick lick you can't believe! FilipeA-I have the clock knob to make a mould of, as my clock is packed up, I have not done it yet mostly because of out of sight out of mind... I'll dig it out and see what I can do-I need a second knob, and I knoe Ron (Geezer) needs one too-along those lines the knob (27385-P8100) from a 280ZX clock is a passable look-a-like, and even more difficult to find is the retaining screw-it is a tiny little monster with a big shoulder. WIll
