  1. She is going in the shop next week. I hope my mechanic doesn't make too much $$$$ off me. I will post updates. By the way, the manufacture date is 10-74, so it is a late 74 model.
  2. I just (slightly) overpaid $1300 for a 74 260Z down here in Ms. It is basically in running condition with a little clutch and brake work. Based on my research, an asking price of $1500 would be a "full" asking price. Opinions are like elbows, we all have a couple!!
  3. Well, I got it somewhat cleaned up and it does look a lot better anyway. I drained the old gas out and put fresh gas in and was able to get it fired up. I live on a rural road with hardly any traffic. Bear in mind that i still have no clutch or brakes. However, I just couldn't stand it any longer and had to take her for a spin. I cranked it in gear and putted around the yard first and then up and down the long driveway. After that I took it on a couple of half mile rounds to the nearest intersection. I was shifting without a clutch and got her up to 3rd gear. The more it ran the better it ran. I am pleased so far and will get the clutch and brakes repaired soon. The bad news is I did find some more rust and former rust repair, but I am still pleased with the purchase. 5thhorsemann, I give it a 7 so far!!
  4. Oh, Mike W., I couldn't pull up pics of your car. How do I do that on here?
  5. Thanks for the info. I do believe it is a late 74 but will check the date. The seller told me it was a late 74 as well. I did a little cleaning on and found a few positive things. The spare tub has no rust, the battery box has almost no rust, the rust above the windshield doesn't look as bad as I thought. Also, there are some rust bubbles on the doglegs, and behind the front tires. Bad news is the headlights were working and now don't , and some rats are gonna need a new residence. I will clean it up more this weekend and maybe drain the gas and start work bleeding the brakes. Anyone that has pics of a correct late 260, i would appreciate seeing them.
  6. Yeah, I really need to give it a bath, repair clutch and brakes and then get it on the road (slowly), and then give my rating. And i would have rather paid a grand or less but I am ok with the price for now. I just sold a CJ 7 so I have a little $$ put back for repairs.
  7. Got him down a little..... paid $1300.
  8. 5thhorsemann- yeah, and I dont have a lot of either!! Ok, guys on a 1-10 scale how did I do? With some clutch work and hopefully just bleeding the brakes it should be in driving condition. It certainly needs a lot of clean up and TLC too. I am an old fart (52) that had a 73 240 back in 1978. I drove that car for about 3 years and then traded it for a truck. I have wanted another one ever since. My neighbor, about 1/2 mile away had this one covered with a tarp. I saw the tail lights sticking out of the tarp so I stopped by and introduced myself. After about 3 weeks of conversation looks like it's mine. Radio, fuel gauge, and oil pressure gauge don't work. I put a new battery in it this morning and she fired up, although it did smoke quite a bit. Here I go!! I will keep progress posted, but may be slow!!
  9. Thanks again for all the advice, and taking the time to provide it. I will take another look at the car next week and try to negociate a better price. I do plan to buy it though. These cars are very scarce in this area, even in the condition it's in.
  10. Thanks for all the info. Now I find out from the owner that it will only start by dripping gas straight into the carb, so there is a possible fuel pump problem also.
  11. Thanks, Not sure I can get pics before buying. It does have the hatch rust at the top also. Is that type rust repair real expensive and what is the normal process?
  12. I found a 74 260Z that is in fair condition. The clutch needs bleeding or possibly a master cylinder. It does have some rust above the windshield, and behind the rear wheels. It does not appear to be rusted all the way through. It is pretty much original, and I believe it is a late 260 because of the bumpers. It was last driven about 2 years ago and has been cranked often since then. The interior is ok, but needs a good cleaning. The seller is asking $1500. It will need a paint job and new door and glass rubber gaskets. I had a 73 240Z way back in 78 and drove it for about 3 years. I loved it and have wanted another one ever since. I know I will have to sink some $$$ into it, but it should be in running condition after the clutch work. What do you think about the $1500 price tag? I will post pics later.
