Tribal elders (you know who you are) – I need your opinion.
My rule of thumb for mods to a very original Z would be to deduct the cost of the mods from the current value of the car. Example: Current value $15K. Add a $2K aftermarket AC system. Your original car is now worth $13K. Add headers and 5 speed for $1K, your car is now worth $12K. And so on. Just my 2 cents. Rich

Z35 the new 240?
The sharp angle creases, etc. are all there because this is the concept car. By the time the accountants are finished with the design it will look like the 370Z. The final cars NEVER look like the concept. Case in Point: The Nissan Design center in La Jolla produced a beautiful looking Altima with gorgeous lines and styling. I saw the model in their facility. What was produced by the factory from that design looks like the old Altima. Sad but true. I am guessing this Z will undergo the same transformation.

240Zs on Craigslist in Idaho, an Orange one and a Black one
The one in Eagle for 5K looks like a very nice car. Seat material looks original, same with the radio. Very nice interior. Motor needs some help, but otherwise looks quite nice from the pics.

Caretaking and progress updates for my '73
First off, that car is a beauty! I love the color and the original condition. Also, very glad to hear your ’73 has the flat tops and smog equip. That usually means the previous owner hasn’t messed with the car too much and you have a very nice original vehicle…sweet. I am guessing the ‘boo’ reference to the flat tops is that you have previously owned a Z with flat top carbs and they did not perform well for you. If not, you have most likely heard from others on this site who have never owned a Z with flat top carbs, and they have bad mouth the flat tops. In my opinion, they are given a bad rap. I had a ’73 with flat tops and they performed wonderfully, even in hot LA traffic. No way I would trade them out. It is getting very rare to see a ’73 or ’74 with the flat tops, so you would do well to keep them, in my opinion. Just my thoughts Anyway, congrats again on a beautiful find. I love it. All that baby needs now is those hubcaps installed. I love hub caps….as long as they stay on when you rip around the corners. Best regards, Rich

SU Floats
Those are for the Roadsters.....I need one. I opened mine up and one looks like this pic, the other is all metal (brass I think). I think the all metal float is early roadster vintage and the pictured one is late model vintage.

Springs....Eibach oor Tokiko or what?
I guess it depends on what you are looking for in a spring. I had the Tokico’s on my yellow Z and they just about rattled my teeth loose, too stiff for daily driving. I switched over to the Eibach’s and really like those. I did cut 1.5 coils from the front springs to get the car to sit level. I am still running the Tokico 5 way adjustable at all 4 corners, with at the number 2 setting..

Early Valve Stem Cap?
Do you mean the rubber piece is also included? Only the metal part is diplayed on the Coker site.

5222 unrestored
Not really a bad car. It just bothers me that the statement “the one and only deviation from factory stock configuration” was made, and the statement is not true. To me it’s false advertizing and it makes me question the buyers integrity. If he would have said that the car was “an excellent example of an original series 1 car”, it would not have bothered me that much. Anyway, just my thoughts. Best regards, Rich

“brand new Panasport wheels……the one and only deviation from factory stock configurationâ€. I'm sceptical. Seems like a nice car from the pics, but pics are often quite generous with the paint jobs. That area around the fuel filler panel looks pretty bad. There are several chips and many paint cracks. Something tells me that is not the only bad area, but I could be wrong. No smog? Looks like most of the smog items have been removed, fuel rail painted silver, and as noted earlier, the plastic fan and screw clamps on naked radiator hose. Engine compartment could use a bit of clean-up as well. The AC looks to be of newer vintage but not fully up on this. I thought the early ‘factory installed’ AC compressors were those monster size 600cc units hanging near the fuel pump. This one is in the smog pump location and is a pretty clean install, as in not real visible. Definitely a nicer set-up, but I don’t think it was available in that era. Could be wrong though. Assuming the paint isn’t that bad, $16K would be fair as noted by 26th.

Z cars at the Concours
Hi Scott, Sounds like a great show there in Coronado, but I am guessing that most of the Z guys will be up at the Motorsport show in Orange. I may go next year to Coronado. Doing body work on the roadster this weekend. Best regards, Rich

Z cars at the Concours
Hi Carl, I think just the addition of a Japanese class would be huge. Also, I think we would only see the subdividing of the Japanese classes at the larger foreign shows. Dana Point does it well as they have a class for ‘Sports Cars 3 litre and under, which allows the Japanese cars. Palos Verdes is very exclusive and will not have Japanese cars this year. What surprises me is the general acceptance of the Japanese motorcycles at the concours events. Seems the motorcycles get a lot more respect than the cars. Anyway, just glad to see the Z’s there and doing well at the events. Best regards, Rich

Z cars at the Concours
Hi Scott, It was great to see your car at the show and I am glad it was so well received. As I mentioned before, the La Jolla show has been very accommodating to the Japanese cars. I am glad they will be adding a Japanese class. I should have my 1600 roadster finished by then. It would be nice to enter it in the show. I am planning on bringing my Z to the JCCS show this year. I brought it to the JCCS 3 years ago, so it is probably fine to bring it again. That is the only other show I am planning on attending this year. Congrats again on a great show. I hope to meet you again at the JCCS. Best regards, Rich

Z cars at the Concours
Not super familiar with the car. I know it is in real nice shape and that he is not the original owner. I think he said he picked it up from someone on the east coast. It has pretty low miles on it.
