I'm not thinking of them doing thier occasional destruction derby runs w/ classic cars, and doubt they would be able to damage a sturdy L24 in a few runs around their track. I'm thinking more of a driving impressions and possibly a few laps with "The Stig". They say his blood is blended with oil leaked from a hundred MG's...

E-mailed the one hosted by Jeremy Clarkson on BBC, so I guesss it's the UK show. Figured they might go for it given the most popular sports cars in the 60's / 70's were of British origin.

E-mailed the TV show "Top Gear" the other day, suggesting they do a show or sequence of stories on classic sports cars from the 60's and 70's. This was the time when sports cars were in their hey-day. I thought it would be interesting to hear the host’s impressions after test driving some of these older classics. Older cars like our Z's have less horsepower than most modern performance cars, but I think there is more of a visceral connection between, car driver and road. And now we wait... More requests just might get the show producer's attention. Anybody else want to contact them?

    or a "Mr. Fusion" coffemaker...
  5. Far from being my first car, it was my first "sports" car. Had my 1st Z in the early 1980's when I met my bride & got married. Rebuilt my second Z in the 1990's and we drove it every where. Everytime I sit in my current Z, it's like I'm 29 again... Not to mention, they are just beautiful cars from every angle! I sometimes find myself stopping to admire my own car!

Yep, probably more old Z's out here than most other states. I've seen four different 240Z's in my city alone. After buying mine, I found out my next door neighbor is original owner of a 72 automatic she still has in her garage and drives on an infrequent basis! There is even a shop about 2 miles from my house called "Datsonville" that's been here longer than me, (20 years). Kind Cool.

Was at the boat yard and a green 73' Z parked near the chandlery. When the owner returned, we chatted for a bit. Very nice guy. The car needs new bumpers and a new interior. but the suspension & engine have been redone. It has an L28 w/ SU's that sounded really nice. Seemed like a very solid car. Told the owner about this site and suggested he check it out.

Yes, the panels run large. They are trimed to allow for dimensional differences chassis to chassis. I had to trim mine almost 1/2" in a couple spots. Once fitted, they look great!

    Nice!
  13. This pretty much what I have on mine. No worry about atracting attention from police, but it still sounds like a sports car. Nice low "thump" at idle, but fairly quiet on city streets. In fact, I get more engine noise in the cabin than outside at speeds below 35 mph. Above 35, she starts to sing and at 60 mph she sounds very sweet when she passes by.
  14. I use a closed-end wrench to rotate the crank. Very Precise.

That looks like "stick-on" molding, not the period correct "rivet-on" molding. Just get some adhesive remover from the local autoparts store and it should come off. Just take it slow so you don't damage the paint during removal. Be aware that it may be covering holes from pevious rivet-on molding that was removed, and the paint underneath the molding will look different, as it has not aged/faded with the exposed paint.

Need a picture to see if it's the right molding. FWIW, I like the look of the side period correct, rivet-on molding, and it provides some protection from parking lot dings. However, it's a personal preferrence kind of thing. Some like it, some don't. What's nice is that the vinyl inserts are available in different colors. Here's a link to the correct style molding. http://www.customautotrim.com/products/moldings/rivet.htm

  19. Not bad for $1250!
  20. If it's properly supported in the correct locations, on a solid, level surface so there is no movement, it's OK to sit in the car. Done it many times with my wife in the car while I'm at the wheels. The extra weight of one person doesn't make a difference. However, being a "belt & suspenders" kind of guy, I usually also leave the floor jack engaged under the diff or front crossmember, on whichever end of the car I'm working on.
  21. Actually, I bought the ducted spoiler specifically to have a location to mount the lights. Since I'm not running the car on the track, brake cooling is really not much of an issue. Besides, unless you run ducting back to the brakes, they really don't do that much to actually cool the brakes.
  22. I agree with Arne. If OEM bolts are available, go with them over generic bolts. If not, he is also correct that you need to use partially threaded bolts. Also, a flanged hex head is usually used in this type of application.
  23. Remember bolt grade is another factor. If I recall correctly, caliper mount bolts are typically metric grade 10.9. Perhaps one of the other members can confirm this to be the correct grade?
  24. If you haven't already, make certain you stiffen the chassis or that extra HP & torque will twist the chassis. What kind of power do you expect from that engine? Should be a real go'er!
