I agree with other posts that the simplest thing to do is disable the ignition or use a battery cut-off. These will prevent "casual" thieves. But if a professional car thief really wants it, there's not much you can do to prevent them from just dragging it onto a trailer with a winch.

The "car zapper" sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen, for the same reason "booby traps" in your home are not allowed. All that has to happen is for someone to get zapped, fall and hit their head or break and arm and they can sue you. It doesn't matter that it's no lethal, they will have suffered injury. I don't agree with it, but have read of a similar case where a burglar sued the home owner because he was "captured" by the device and couldn't leave. He sued and won for wrongful imprisonment. Found this on the web: "Use of Force If your booby-trap constitutes the use of force on anyone, then you must take great care and consideration before deploying it because use of force requires that you reasonably believe that force is immediately necessary. If your booby-trap uses force on someone that it wasn’t reasonable to use force on (child wanders on your property) then you will probably have your own crime to answer for."
3. She looks great in that red, it's the same color as my 1st 240z.

I used 3M spray Adhesive for the headliner. No problems so far.

. Regarding keeping "stock" as an investment, or doing a resto-mod, Walter captured it very succinctly in the line above, as did Fast Woman and others. . My car is a resto-mod, and I really like it that way. Being a 240, technologically speaking, it's a bit less sophisticated car than the 280 and slightly less comfortable. It's a bit noisy with only rudimentary seat adjustments, no power steering, brakes, or windows. Both cars are relatively poor music platforms, but that's OK as the engine is the best music on a curvy road. I absolutely LOVE driving my 240Z. There is a sense of connection with the road and a visceral quality to the driving experience, much like early British sports cars of the same era. I think the 280 "feels" slightly heavier and a bit less agile in the corners, but is a smoother, more comfortable car for daily driving. Both are great cars. Find the one YOU like and enjoy it!
6. First, let me say I appreciate someone going to the level of restoration you are doing. It represents a significant amount of commitment, work and investment. . While I lean towards the "keep it original" side of the road, I'm also a realist when it comes to owning classic cars. If it's going to be a very nice driver, (as opposed to a show car), the color being a bit "off" is not an issue, unless it really bugs you. . My car is a resto-mod, (not original, but purposefully returnable to stock, as the changes are "bolt-on"). What is most important is that the car represents "my" vision, as I intend to keep it for a long time. As others have suggested, if you plan to keep the car, do what makes YOU happy.
7. Works for me!

I went through a lot of negotiations to get the diamond vinyl, as they typically don't sell to individuals. I'd have to go back through records to find what I spent, but it wasn't cheap. It was worth it, as it was the only way I could get a good fit on my rear strut towers.
9. Might be available, depending on the day / time.

I got new black panels from Classic Datsun. Replaced most of the soft vinyl with new from Motorsport. Had significant fit problems with the soft vinyl and talked the mfg of the vinyl to sell me sheet product and fabricated some soft vinyl. Carpet is charcoal indoor/outdoor with sewn vinyl edging. On my neighbor's green 240Z I used vinyl dye to restore her faded "tan" soft vinyl. It worked very well.
11. I'll second the use of model paint. It works and lasts very well. For what it's worth, you have to remember that these were not expensive cars. Quality of things like emblems is one of the areas where compromises were made.
12. Been to Japan five times, but that was pre-Z. It's a great place to visit.

My Silver 72' had a red interior, but it was pretty faded in some spots. I changed it over to black & charcoal, the same as I had dome with my previous Z. I considered keeping it red, but at that time, many red interior parts were NLA. Things like the red "diamond" vinyl are actually easier to get now.

In SoCal, try Les Cannady. He's a Datsun specialist.

Sweet looking Z! Don't know which I'd prefer to drive... A few years ago I took a ride in the US equivalent aircraft - AT-6. (Same airframe, different name). Did some aerobatics, and got to fly the plane, which had a very responsive rudder. Did some loops, rolls, barrel rolls, inverted flight, split S, wing-over, tail slide. Was a complete blast!
16. Looks great. I personally prefer silver metallic, (obvious from my car's pic), but I do really like the color. It should show the body lines very nicely.
17. I'm thinking of trying to get the original license plate number for my Z in black & gold, though I do like my current vanity plate.

to my eye, on silver paint, go with chrome.
19. Yep, I saw it also. Velocity Channel, "Retro Car Kings", segment 281. It was a pretty cool show.
20. Wow, that's a great restoration so far. Love the green. She will be gorgeous!

Makes me happy as well. IMHO, cutting up the quarters is better done on a car that already has rust damage in those areas.
22. Thanks, it was a good show. There were over 200 cars of all types, including a baja racer and a Mad Max-esce rat rod. A few of the cars had amazing paint jobs that I can't even venture a guess at the cost. The "best engine" winner was a chromed and color-plate masterpiece that was so clean it could have been built in a hospital operating room.
23. The little Z won a sponsor award at today's "Cars in the Park". Came as a complete surprise! It's just a small plaque, but when you don't expect anything... Best "foreign" car went to a pristene, bright red DeTamaso Mangusta. Other cars in the "foreign class" were a DeTamaso Pantera, a highly customized Jag XK, an absolutely stunning XKE convertible, and a couple Ferrari's. I also won a nice raffle prize, a "Duracell DPP-600HD Powerpack 600 Jump Starter & Emergency Power Source". Not a bad day! Attached are a few pics: Me & my Z, my Z with my neighbor's 240Z and my buddies 71' Capri.

I prefer the look of the emblems on the S30. They sort of "finish-it-off" and maintain the retro look of the car. Emblems or not, they are just pretty cars...
