what after market EFI will work for a 75z??
I just ordered the SDS EM4-6D setup for my '75 280Z. It can be used with stock fuel injectors & eliminates the bulky airflow meter. Can't wait to install it and begin fooling around with it. It's the most affrdable & versatile system out there for old Datsuns and let's face it, we don't have many aftermarket sources for these systems when it comes to regular street driven cars.

'75 280Z Rear Bumper Brackets
do I need to drop the exhaust & gas tank to access any hidden bolts? I already undid the three fancy nuts per side inside the trunk compartment. Any tips from those who have gone here before? Much obliged.:stupid:

My 240Z has possibly been killed
Thanks for the redirect Geezer...I'd be more than happy to help if asked. My "deplorable" manners and "self-interest" helped get my pal a more than acceptable total loss settlement for his mint '71 Z a few years back. He kept the car too, because the motor was perfectly fine. I think a lot of the advice already given in this thread is plenty helpful in dealing with this problem. Most insurance wants to fix cars, the main problem I run into is the body shops and what they want to charge for repairs...it's just a big cycle and we're all caught in the middle. Now what are we gonna do about all those battalions of lawyers? I'm going to Wal Mart to buy some glue traps.

My 240Z has possibly been killed
I work for an insurance company and I'm mildly amused by certain comments by fellow posters, but depite the popular misconceptions people may have about insurance processes I want to let you know that you'll be well taken care of if you do have the appropriate coverage; if you don't then that's your problem for not buying the right coverage. Plus, everything an insurer does is regulated according to the state you live in and anyway it's right there in the policy--which is a contract that cannot be deviated from. This is not the wild west where anything goes and please don't pin all your hopes on yer rootin' tootin' law-yah, because if you're not injured he's not making money with your case (attorneys don't make much if anything at all on property damage cases). So please, calm yourself, make sensible choices, mitigate and minimize your losses, speak with your claim rep and insurance agent if necessary and there's always your state's department of insurance regulation there for you if you feel you've been somehow ripped off or wrongly denied.

Valve Keeper
If you mean "keeper" as in lash pad or the little button-like thing that sits on top of the spring retainer and under the end of the rocker arm, or if it's just the enitre rocker arm which has come off, then it won't harm the motor to turn it over or even to run it...but that cylinder won't fuction without the valve opening & closing and motor will run rougher. You can replace the rocker arm and lash pad easily enoung and readjust the proper clearance which I'm assuming you know how to do or just consult Haynes, but if it came off in the first place the valve could have stuck open, it was kicked off & may have damaged the cam, so check the lobe for that cylinder before you try to reassemble.

Strange noise in a 240Z
Nope, stays with me in 5th. I haven't lugged the motor in that gear yet, so I might try it and see what happens...

Strange noise in a 240Z
Once the drivetrain is under load, it starts rumbling & grumbling. But only in 5th.

Strange noise in a 240Z
It occurs after shifting & releasing the clutch. 1-2-3-4 no noise...5th: noise. ?????

Strange noise in a 240Z
I have a 73 240Z with a ZX five speed & 3.54:1 diff. Lately when I shift into fifth I hear a noise coming from sort of behind me....like it's the rear end or an axle, but kind of on the driver's side and not as far forward as the gearbox. However, this makes no sense because it's definitely drive-train noise and if it's the rear end, wouldn't it make sounds in all gears, not just fifth? It's not quite a grinding (like bearing failure) but more of a rumbling type of sound. I know sounds travel and can be hard to pinpoint with all the other noises happening while driving but it's weird that it's so magnified only when in 5th gear. I'm reluctantly thinking it's the trans....but, Any other suggestions?

Swapping in a Trans from a 240sx...advice?
prior post: "Can't see why it's necesary to go to the expense of all the hassle to fit the SX tranny when there's a tranny available which for 90% of daily drivers is perfectly adequate and in some respects superior." A better, more positive-feeling shifter maybe...looks like the FS5W71C unit has a redesigned ball&socket link which seems a bit beefier than the old style with the bushings that always wear out & can't stand up to abuse.

Datsun makes it on Cash Cab
This may be related...My guru mechanic friend from waaay back who taught me a great deal about cars & car repair said that he always thought Datsun was chosen as a name because it sounded British (which makes sense if you think about it in context since at the time the Roadster and susbsequently the Z were introduced, the Brits held a good deal of market share in America for personal sports cars sales--having held the mantle more or less since they came out with the XK120). We all know of course how badly they underestimated their Japanese competitors and lost that domination for good. But anyway: "Datsun" = British, hmmmm. at first glance, maybe. But we know the truth.
