TURBO AFM on 78 280 running bad

Hello,

Just installed 82 turbo afm on 78 datsun z. Car starts and idles great. When you push on gas, it sputters and white smoke comes out the back. Is the car running rich? i tryed to lean out by turnning or twisting the gear clockwise. Any help would be great thanks, jay
