  1. Hi all, Does anyone have any insight on the different fonts used on the Series 1 AM radio faceplate for the numbers? I can see two styles: A more rounded sans serif font, as seen here, here and here (on the $310k BaT sale) A stenciled, almost "military" style block font, as seen here and here I'm unsure if it's factory differences, a different model (I've seen references of a Hitachi TM-1081 with different Z and B codes), or simply restoration work. Any information would be appreciated as I'm trying to acquire an original, correct radio for my 10/71 Series 1. Attaching images here also incase the links go dead in the future.
  2. Hey guys. so I bought my z a couple years ago and it didn’t have anything audio related installed. Every time I drive the z I just bring a Bluetooth speaker in te car with me lol but I’ve had some extra time on my hands and I’m installing the retro sound stereo. Everything is going pretty well, only thing is that I don’t like some of the popular speaker locations (the kick panels or the big box in the trunk). I want to see if I can use the OEM speaker locations. Ok so this is where I’m stuck. I’m aware that these Z’s only came with one speaker back then. On the drivers side rear behind that plastic panel, I see I have a speaker mount bracket there. Dude is there any way I can have the a similar bracket on the other side? Same exact spot just on the passenger side? The other side has the holes like you can do it. But I’ve looked online everywhere nobody sells a bracket. I just want the speakers hidden back there. any help is well appreciated thanks

  5. Mint condition 1979 280ZX dash, along with door panels that are in great shape. Included are the lower dash panels with courtesy lights, steering wheel, spare tire cover, center air conditioner vents, radio mount, fuse box cover. Zero cracks. A rare find, with analog Quartz clock, chrome trimmed door pockets, cigar lighter, stereo surround adjuster. Wiring harness is intact, and complete. Both defroster ducts included, pictures only show the one, but both are included. Door panels are in great shape, solid with no tears. Spare tire cover has a few blemishes, but is very acceptable. Discoloration in pictures of dash and A/C vents is cleaner that was drying. Right side lower dash panel with courtesy light was drilled for alarm system, but is not seen when mounted since its on the bottom of the panel, vacuum selector switch on left panel is also intact. Give me a reasonable offer for all.
  6. I’m trying to figure out how to hook up the original radio as well as a modern day radio in a 1974 260Z. The original speaker is gone and I have two door and two rear compartment speakers. If I chose to have the original (monaural ) radio power the two front speakers and still be able to run the two front and two rear with the modern radio, I’m assuming I need to do some special wiring since both radios cannot power a speaker at the same time and since the two front speakers cannot be hooked together for the original radio because that will be a problem for the modern radio that needs to keep them separate. Please look this over and offer suggestions on if it will work or if there is a better way. 1) Power from an ignition controlled source goes to a DPDT switch that toggles between powering the original radio and the modern radio (red line) and a power feed to a DPDT relay (orange line) or an open circuit. 2) The original radio on the left has two speaker wires, the positive wire (white) and the negative wire (white with a black dash). The negative wire splits and goes to both rear speakers. The positive wire splits and goes to contacts A1 and A2 on the relay. 3) The modern radio on the right has eight speaker wires with the rear speakers wires (green and blue pairs) going to the two rear speakers (RR and RL). The front speakers have two pairs of wires with the two negative wires doing to the two rear speakers (turquoise and white with black dash) and the two positive wires (turquoise and white) going to the B1 and B2 connectors on the relay, respectively. 4) Assuming A1 and A2 are open in the de-energized state, the speaker signals will travel from the modern radio through the turquoise to B1, then to C1 and then to the front right (FR) speaker and through the white wire to B2, then to C2 and on to the front left (FL) speaker. 5) Assuming the relay has been energized by the DPDT switch which is sending power now to the original radio, A1 is connected to C1 and A2 is connected to C2 in the relay. This will send the speaker signal from the original radio to a split connected to A1 and A2 so that both front speakers are powered. The above assumes that it is OK to have the negative wires from the front speakers connected to both the original and modern radios at the same time and for the negative front speaker wires to be interconnected. I might be able to find a relay that has 4 internal switches, but that might be hard to find.
  7. Hi, looking for AM/FM radio for my 1973 240Z.
  8. I have a 1983 ZX that had a clock with a display that would go dim and almost out, My first response was to replaced the clock. I found another clock and had a mechanic install it. At first it worked fine but after time it started going dim like the original one. On a hunch I took the original clock that was removed earlier and hooked it up to a power supply and it worked perfect, the display was bright as day and it worked fine. Now I am back to looking at a wiring problem in the console rather than the clock. I wondered if there was a way inadequate voltage was reaching the clock. In addition to this issue I have also noticed that my cars radio will no longer remember stations when it comes on, it comes up on 550kz on the AM band rather than the FM station I left it on. I then have to hit seek to find a station. If I turn the radio on and set it to an FM station and let it play for a few minutes and then turn it off and back on, it will come back to the station, but if I turn it off for an hour and try it, the memory is lost. In addition to this I also noticed on a couple of occasions that right after I started the car the radio came on for a few seconds and then went off all on it's own. When this happened I could usually hit the power button on the radio again and the radio would come on and stay on. I might add that there does not seem to be any low voltage problem in other areas of the car. Everything else electrical works fine and the car starts right up every time. I'm not an expert on these things but I'm starting to think my radio and clock issues may be related in some connector in the dash. Anybody expert opinions appreciated.
  9. I have a question about my radio. My car is a 1982 Datsun 280zx N/A. It has the digital radio display, but it doesn't work most of the time. However, I've noticed that if I've been driving the car for quite a while with the radio on, it will sometimes come on and work. It usually stays on until the car has been turned off for a while. Any idea what the problem could be?
  10. I know the antenna mast has been covered in many threads but I have a question that is probably to simple to mention and I do not want to get it wrong because these things are irreplaceable. I want to know what stops the aerial mast when it is in the fully extended or retracted position. The end is connected to the drum using a splitpin, if the winder keeps going then would the plastic cord not snap or is it strong enough to stop the drum from turning? Like most people my mast has snapped some time back on my 1970 240z. I pulled it from the car to replace the mast with an exact NOS replacement (on Ebay about 5 years ago if your wondering). The motor in the antenna is pristine, no dust or dirt and looks almost new. I removed the old broken mast and aerial. I have then threaded the new mast into the guide and around the drum, but the hole for the split pin which holds the end of the mast to the drum is in the wrong location from where I last stopped the winder. Therefore should I fully extend the aerial and simply connect the end where the splitpin is currently located and let the winder do the rest or wind it to a set location and then connect the mast? Hope this makes sense.
  11. I have an original 72' 240z radio. I'm pretty sure it works. If it does work, how much is it worth. I need to make money to fix up the engine of my car and get it running so some cash would help. thx -Chris
