  1. Would it be advisable to get a 6 point harness with stock seats? According to the FIA, the shoulder straps have to rest on the seat flat, which the Z seats aren't designed for. Obviously, this includes a roll cage, don't worry. But, I would like to maximize my safety, hence the harness and cage. Would it be safe to mount a 6 point harness onto the stock seats? Could I just mount the anchor points right behind the seat, reducing the chance that they will even be resting on the seat? My other option is braum leather seats, that match pretty closely to the stock leather seats, both in color and style. Thank you!
  2. Hello all! I am currently in the process of rewiring my 1970 240Z with a 21 circuit EZ-Wire kit. To be quite frank, I don't have a ton of experience in these type of things, but after looking at the original wiring diagram I'm just a bit confused. My question is stupidly simple: Am I supposed to my rewiring using the original factory diagram adapting the universal kit as I go, or am I supposed to be going based off of the diagrams included with the kit?
  3. Hello, I have a 1971 Series 1 240Z which has a few issues which needed to be rectified to pass inspection here. One of which was the reverse lights not working, which I thought would be a simple fix. -I haven't checked the reverse switch itself yet, because there is a continuity issue with the red/black wiring ( I jumped the red to red black cables at the switch but nothing) - I have power at the red wire to the switch. Here is where things are confusing me. I have continuity from the red/black wire at the switch to the red/black wire at the three prong connector (shared with YG/BY) from the engine compartment harness to the dash harness. However, there are two red/black wires going to the body harness from the dash harness, neither of which have continuity through the dash harness. This is the first issue. Second issue is the body harness itself has been subject to some serious modification. The body harness has THREE red/black wires (one of which looks like rear defroster), but the ones of the pronged connectors do not have continuity with the wiring at the reverse lights. The only wire that has continuity with the wiring at the lights is a red/black wire that has been connected to the spade going to the pass side door switch (??). Also, the wiring going up the frame after the seat has been chopped, and been butt spliced to different colored wiring. However, at the tail end of the car, most of the wiring appears factory. I know I could simply bypass the dash harness altogether. My questions: - What is the purpose of the black wire at the body harness connector? What else is going to ground from the dash harness? It appears the body harness has its own ground point. - Is the reverse light wire going through a pronged connector on the dash harness to the body harness on Series 1 240z or is it a separate butt style connection? - What do I do with the door switch? I never checked if it actually works. I wouldnt be too bothered if it doesnt however. Thanks for your help!
  4. I hate to ask this question since its been asked so many times before, but I tried the other solutions and they did not work. When I bought the car, both the low and high beams worked fine. The day I got it home, the left headlight had gone out and a few days later the right headlight followed. The amp meter needle bounces when I switch on the low beams (parking lights) but no longer does anything between the low and high beam settings. Literally every other light in the car works except for the headlights. I did some searching and other people who had the same problem as me either found a broken connection under the steering wheel or had a bad switch, so I cleaned the switch, checked all the connections under the steering column and I couldnt spot any problems. This connector was too hot to handle after I tested all the lights and left the lights on the high beam setting for a while(pulled it apart as much as my fingers could handle before taking the picture: According to the FSM it connects a ton of stuff, but after pulling it apart, I did not notice anything odd with the individual connections and everything looked very clean. After putting everything back together, the plug no longer heats up, but still no headlights. Did my headlights just die out? Is there something I overlooked? Here is the album that has all the pictures of my car and the pictures from around the steering column: https://picasaweb.google.com/flyingaero/Datsun260Z I purchased these lights from eBay to replace the old ones, but I would like to see if I can solve the headlight problem before putting in higher power lights and a headlight relay harness. Any idea how I would get the halos to work? The knowledge of electronics I had does not translate to inside the car like I thought it would
  5. My dash wiring harness in my 01/1971 240z is shot, where could I find a replacement or if I need to modify a universal harness what should I get?
  6. Getting the engine bay ready for soda blasting and am replacing the engine harness. Im having trouble finding where the harness connects to. I can't find it on interior side of the firewall. Is this something I have to take the dash out to get to? I found some connections below the dash, but this seems to be to a different harness. Thanks guys
  7. I have two questions that you guys no doubt can help me with: Car: 1972 240Z 1. How does the wiring harness get routed inside the the car on the passenger side ? Is it routed through the rocker ? The car has been gutted except for the dash. I am looking for strategy for co-existence with the sound deadener. 2. Does anybody have experience with the Gas Tank sending unit electrical connectors ? The 240 has a T shaped connect post on the sending unit. The rubber around the connector is old an stiff. How do you get the connector re-attached to the sending unit ? Thanks, Jay Not just a Z - zdisease
  8. I'm getting ready to undercoat the rest of the interior in my bronze '78 280z and then install soundproofing and new carpet. Can anyone tell me where or to what this connector goes? It is part of the wiring harness on the passenger side floorboard and does not appear to be connected to the console wiring harness. I've matched the parking brake and drivers seat belt warning light connections but forgot to label this one when I took the interior out. Thanks!
