  1. I just recieved my new pistons and rings from the machine shop for my NA l28. I had to have the walls slightly honed so I required oversized pistons. I recieved a set from safety pistons with hasting rings. The part number is "SP123 -2 nissan (datsun)81-83 : 280zx 6v 81-83 : l28e eng 2753cc / 86.0 mm" The set of pistons I got from the machine shop were dished unlike my original flat top pistons and my uncle, who I'm building my car with, said that's how they are supposed to be even though it will lower compression. Through all the reading and searching I've done I thought that you only really wanted flat top pistons on the NA set up and dished pistons for turbos because of the lower compression. So my question is, are these the right pistons to be using or am I supposed to have flat tops for my set up. I've had the head machined .005" and the block machined, I need to figure out how much material the shop took off the block but it's not much. Im also using a fel pro head gasket which I've heard it is slightly thinner than stock. My uncle said we needed to use dished pistons because of those modifications is this the case? If I do need to re order pistons what brand should I get or who should I order them from? Thanks in advance for the help and input it's much appreciated! -Noah M
  2. Rebuilding an f54 block and p79 head, only have two questions I haven't really been able to find an answer too. Probably simple questions. I"m looking for main bearing studs for the 83 f54 block and all the bolts I can find say 70-78 which would be an N42 block, right? Will those studs fit the f54 block? I was hoping to use arp hardware for the main studs, rod bolts, and head studs. Also, I'm going to be doing the "high compression mod" for the p79, which involves shaving the head .080" , shimming the cam towers .080" (which I found proper shims for on datsunspirit.) running n47 valves, which I have, that are .080" longer, and shimming the valve springs by .080". I read about this on datsunzgarage, and he mentions that the valve springs come with a .040" shim from factory, and to add two more. I can't for the life of me find those anywhere. Does anyone who has done this or knows about it know what I should use to accomplish this? He specifically says not to use washers, I assume because the metal is too soft or something. Additionally, having a little bit of trouble finding oversized flat top pistons in stock anywhere. Datsunspirit has them listed on his website as out of stock, I'm sure if I contacted him about buying some he could get a hold of them for me.
  3. Im looking for cast flattops to rebuild my 83 f54/p79, having a hard time finding ones that arent forged but I stumbled upon these. It says theyre for 75-79s but as far as I can tell those were the same as the pistons in the f54 block. Can anyone see any reason these wouldn't work or if I shouldn't buy from this source? https://zcardepot.com/engine/engine-rebuild/piston-set-of-6-pistons-l28-020.html?search=piston
  4. Hey everyone - I've been a site lurker for a while :paranoid: but I am now getting ready to officially purchase my first Z. My nick comes from my first true car love - the R34 Skyline. I'm a product of my generation, what can I say? I've grown up quite a lot since then and added many cars to the wishlist, but an R34 is definitely a dream I am pursuing. When it comes to cars, I'm probably not much different than all of you wonderful Z fans... Give me some good music, ocean breeze and an open road and that's what makes me happy. I'm looking to get a Z that's in good condition, get it to Stage 0, and then do a few upgrades. Not looking for a serious racer, just something I can get a little speed from at occasional track days. I would like to get an F54 Block (love the siamese setup) and 5 speed from a 280ZX, Brakes (haven't decided on which ones), Replica Kobe Seiko Z432's, white front turn signals, air dam, BRE spoiler and finish it off with Dark Metallic Green paint (Paint codes for Datsun/Nissan Dark Greens would be great - and for reference, I love the Audi LZ6U). I'd love to hear your thoughts (for instance - how would you go about finding a good 28ZX engine), feedback, and any knowledge on reputable shops in Southern California! Happy driving.
