  1. My brake lights aren't working and I was going to replace the hazard light switch and the flasher on my 72 Z. Was wondering if I needed to remove the whole dashboard to replace them or is there another way to do it? Kind of tempted to remove the whole dash just to take a look around and do some cleanup, but I'm afraid that's going to take much longer. Time I could be out driving the car.
  2. Hi guys. I just wrote a dashboard repair guide for my website, ZCarGuide.com! Take a look and let me know what you think. https://zcarguide.com/repair-dashboard-datsun-z/ Thanks! Mark
  3. Hi, I'm new to this forum and this is my first post. My car is a 1976 280Z 2+2. I have removed the dashboard of my car to work on the hoses in the AC system and re-upholster the top foam. After re-installing the dashboard I have 2 problems: Headlights won't turn on. All other lights do. The brake light in the Speedometer is on and the brakes are way too low. I have reviewed the switches and the fusible links and they are all Ok. Any ideas on what could be wrong? Thanks,
  4. '73 240z, pulled out the tach to fiddle with it because it only worked when it wanted to, fixing it up went marvelously because all it needed was some sanding down of the copper contacts to remove oxidation. NOW, putting it back together I've got four holes in the back of the tach for two backlights and two turn signal lights, and lo and behold I've got two backlights and two turn signal lights in the dash harness to shove back in those holes.... AND ONE MORE! Now I've gotten out my mirror-on-a-stick, shoved my head in any holes I can fit it in, searched forums, the factory service manual, and a crusty old Haynes manual and I'm not getting anywhere on this. It has it's own ground wire unlike all the bulbs that ground to the tachometer's housing and have a single power wire, and uses a different kind of lightbulb (push in, instead of bayonet type). It turns on with all the standard dash backlights when I flip on the headlights or parking lights. tach backlights and turn signals (one off-camera) on left and right, mystery light in bottom center. It has a light colored plastic hole-mount type socket, and a pair of black wires coming out of it to a connector with a black wire and a red wire with a blue stripe which go into the dash harness next to the turn signal/backlight/rheostat wires. There is a bullet splice in the black wire between the harness and the large plastic two-wire plug regular dash lights use lefthand bulb, mystery light uses righthand bulb
  5. First and foremost, I have searched multiple forums and believe I do in fact have the correct dashboard wiring harness, but due to the multiple part number changes, I thought I would confirm with the community before embarking on the dash removal Background: Last night I went to replace the gas gauge in my 6/70 Z. To my dismay and utter disappointment, the dashboard wiring harness currently in the car has been butchered and all the wires have been spliced together. Everything works except the gas gauge and all the radio connections are destroyed. i want to install the original radio when I replace the gauge, so installing the new harness is the only solution. Solution: I purchased a dashboard wiring harness a year or two ago, which the owner told me was removed from a 1970 Z. The part number tag is still on the harness and reads as follows: 24013 E4650 G 70 7 JAPAN 24013 E4651 G 70 7 JAPAN My hope is the harness is from a 7/70 car, but I wanted to get input from the gurus on the site. My car is a 6/70 build date with a manual transmission. Can anyone confirm that this is in fact the correct wiring harness for my car? Are there any potential issues I need to be aware of as I prepare the change over? Knowing the harness is correct would sure provide me with the extra confidence I'll need to tackle removing the dash and reconnecting the harness. Thanks for taking the time to read the post and provide feedback. Have a great day. Don
