Got STs with Tokicos on both of my Zs. I can not complain about them. The set on my 78 280 is almost 10 years old. STs are fine, Tokico and Eibachs would be my preference but for the money STs are on the mark.
  3. Next best thing is on the cover:cheeky:.......I love my S30s but I really love my Pearl White G35....not complaining about that fine cover....I am signed, sealed and looking forward to the first addition.

Montezuma, that's the great thing about living in to good old US of A. You have the right to vote on it. If a club doesn't want to be a member that is ok with us. We never try to force any club to do something they don't want to. I will contact a club once or twice to see if they are intrested, after that they will never have to worry about me hounding them. if I were at your meetings I would have said don't join even if one person was against it. This program is a support issue. I for one was "FOR" the idea, I love...errrr....loved the magazine, I actually looked forward to its arrival and was hoping for a monthly vice bi-monthly, I can honestly say I did not see the demise coming. I would read it cover to cover, sometimes over and over. I own a G35 Coupe 6MT, 78 and 73Z and a Sentra SE-R the magazine was a perfect fit for me. I will miss it. I can tell you this; our club was one guy away from being on board, the one guy is very knowledgeable in the by-laws and would not budge, add the fact that the Prez is a "say it like it is" New Yorker the meeting got a little uncomfortable. The end of Sport Z is very sad news, I however do look forward to the effort of the next magazine and I for one will subscribe. My compliments to the Editor.

Funny story about Sport Z; ever since November it has caused a problem with our local Z club. If every member of the the Z club whould have subscribtion the club would get its name listed on the club page. A few select clubs accomplished the goal by adding in the cost of the magazine to the yearly club dues. Our president wanted to do the same but was hit by strong opposition from one peticular club member who used the "by-laws" as a way avoiding having to pay for the subscription. The rift ruined 2 or 3 monthly meetings, the funny part is that we actually wasted 2 or 3 meeting and chased away a few good Z guys for NOTHING!!!! Damn that Sport Z....
  6. I was waiting for the 26th reponse, and it was right on; what I was thinking a person who has what he has would say. Time, money and patiences is all you need to be a member of an enlite classy group. Great response 26.
  7. The advice of Carl Beck or 26th would be valuable at this point in your decision process.
  8. I was at the same place in my Z ownership about 3 weeks ago. My 73 is still in my garage thanks to the great advice of the good Z owners in this fourm.
  9. If my memory serves me it looks better than the 27th does in that one picture that the 26th posts. I agree....if it is under a 1000 it might be worth the effort, I am sure you know what you are getting into, it will have to be a labor of love.

I think ST made them yellow 15 years ago.

Welcome to the ownship zone. 82s are nice...as long as it says Z on it is it fine by me. "Enjoy the Ride."
  13. A 73 with SUs....mmmm...EGR? I am not sure if we kept it or not, but I will look tonight when I get home from work. Most of the smog stuff has been taken off, but the EGR might be there and If it is there you might be on to something.
  14. Kinda of what I was thinking too....that is why I threw it on this fourm, your reply to did help....I just want to see what others think too. It always start with the click and no change in horsepower or the guages.
  15. I have a 73 automatic with SUs. The transmission is out of a 77 from what I can see written on the side with the ol junkyard yellow paint pen. The car works fine until it gets warmed up. After driving for a bit, there is a lound click and then a loud sound (sounds like a pop off valve stuck open) coming out from the transmission or engine. There is no real loss of horsepower, I usual drive at anywhere from 65to75MPH and 5000rpms. Does anyone think they know what I am talking about? I have a really good Z mechanic BUT he only has experience with 4 and 5 speed models and detests my auto. He did an auto trans service for me and found nothing of note in the old oil. Feel free to shoot me your opinions and thoughts.

My buddy had one of the "F-something" Datsun Coupes. It looked a little bit like the car that started this thread except it had more glass. It was a total "piece", its final day came one day when he was taking a turn and the axle came out leaving him riding on the ground....it was scarey at the time but now we look back and laugh it. The car in down under looks like parts car at best to me.
  17. It would have been less professional not to call you at all and pretend like they lost your order.....got to give them some credit.

No bad a bad profit margin for them.....E-yikes.....I could have had for $4K. Those wheels covers are not factory originals although they may have come with the car. Since they want $14K let's move on to another car.

That is a great point that I never thought about before. After thinking about; you are so right.

My mistake (I am color blind).....the car is in fact orange. They bought it from some guy in Allentown PA who did not know what he really had. I think the Allentown guy owned it since new. I think it sold for around $4K to the dealer. The car is is the exact same condition as it was sold except for a full-on detail. I am not sure what the dealer means by "restored" I think this car is actually a "survivor". I was considering it vice the one I got....but I had already paid $200 down on mine and I did not one to stiff the nice seller.....but I like this one better. This orange car will require you to buy a new set of SU carbs. It was easy to register the PA car in CA.

My 2 cents worth: I own both a 78 280Z and a 73 240Z I have pros and cons to both cars, but I was looking for just a car to cruise around in I would buy a 73 or older Z so as to not worry about smog checks. I have owned my 280 since 1993 currently it has not passed a smog test since 2000, so it is in the driveway with the ol Non-Op cert....it also has 375K on the original motor so I am not as lucky as sblake. My 73 is from Pennsylvania and not a rust bucket, the car was garged its entire life until I got it, so it is possible for your CT car not be be rusty. The problem could be the price of shipping from CT to Palm Springs, it will be $1K plus. Also the 1978 will require smog impact fee for california and a pre 75 will not. Many things to consider when thinking of buying a Z. I watch Ebay everyday; currently there are some decent ones listed. The red 73 from Philly is an interesting car, it was sold in December on ebay, the guy that owned it lived in Allentown Pa. The hood scoop on it is a dealer installed option. I talked to the guy that owned it and it too was a garage car. For anyone who did not grew up back east: we used to have only bring our sports cars out in only nice weather.
  22. I don't have the answers but I feel that I must chime in: I think it is great that you got the car, you are doing the right thing and I for one look forward to getting periodic updates on the "Dersert Queen"'s progress. Exciting times for you no doubt.
  23. I thinking the "cold start valve" is the problem. It is an easy fix. The cold start valve is on top of the manifold and easy to change. If you have a shop manual it has a few troubleshooting methods for the valve. I had mine go out in my old 78Z, I simply picked up a used one in the local "Pocket Your Part" also known as Pick Your Part, I drop in the used valve and everything worked great and still does some 12 years later. How are things back in ol PA? I grew up in the Lehigh Valley.
  24. The AVS's are the best, I had them on my Skyline when I lived in Japan, just got them on my G35 Coupe and plan to put them on my 73. My vote will always be for the Yokos.
