Going to Japan, need things to do.
Check out an Up Garage, they sell used performance parts. There was a few times that I did see Z parts there. They also have a ton of used wheels, sometimes they have Wantanbes. Right next to the Up Garage near Atsugi right off RT 16 there is a place called Auto Zebra, they sell nostalgic cars and parts. They always had 3 or 4 Zs. Also Nismo has a showroom out in Kawasaki which is real nice too. If you can get to that Z show west of Tokyo, I went in June 2000 and it was awesome. So much to do, I still have a Z car friend there, he owns a tuner shop in Sin-Yokohama called All Round Players, a great guy who loves S30s. Love Japan, always had great times there, enjoy yourself and as Motley Crue once sang: "Girls, Girls, Girls".

R-414b ??
I was told that R-12 can still be used if the shop had it in stock prior to the change in policy. My friend who is a mechanic at a local So Cal garage told me that they are still using their old stock of R-12. I guess it makes sense since there is nothing else you can do with the product other than use it for its intented use.

Will I Pass Smog With Headers?
Approved means that they are certified with a CARB Number from the California Air Resources Board. Here is the website:http://www.arb.ca.gov/homepage.htm MSA headers do not have a CARB approval # so they will not pass the visual test. I do not believe there are any L Series headers that are CARB approved. You might need to go to your local Pick Your Part and find a good exhaust manifold in order to pass.

It came in a PM so I will forward it to you.

Received the car I purchased off Ebay today.
If you are going to take away the originality of the car then why not a 5sp vice 4sp. The automatic could be a nice crusing car. I too bought an automatic on ebay, I have access to a 5sp and the parts to put it in but I would rather follow beandip's advice on how to beef up the performance of my automatic.

Why the die off in value of the Z?
vtdds71's story rings so true as I too am in the "buyers remorse/I paid too much on ebay" club. I too bought a car that I feel I paid too much for, I must say she was very photogenic, and her previous owner was very convincing of her condition. I actually had family go and look it before buying it and still I was not impressed upon delivery. I have both body and mechanical concerns. Since the cars arrival in January, I have replaced the carbs, added an electronic ignition, new exhaust, new springs and shocks, new stereo system, new choke cable(old one did not work/the plastic on the console was broken), new tires(I saw better tires in junkyards than the ones that came with the car), new Wesco seatbelts and had to tune it up. The floor boards were "supposed" to be solid, that changed after one pothole. Now the good, 98K miles and crack free dash. I am so lucky to have a very good friend who is a mechanic and whose father lived in Japan for 18 years collecting Z car parts for all his years. Without my friends I would be crying for my lose. I could NEVER in good conscience sell my car for what I paid and for how much I have put into since buying it....I will bite the bullet and keep it until someone offers me a great price. NEVER BUY ON EBAY!!!!!!

JToutfitters.com... BEWARE EBAY!
It appears that they are a Toyota Landcruiser site, so I guess if you are a Z owner who also happens to own an old Landcruiser please proceed with caution with dealing with this guy...I guess.....??? http://www.jtoutfitters.com/index.php?osCsid=69ba4f305f9c68ba92991c3c11ff099e

Great show, many guys from the San Diego Z club went last year they loved the show. Next the WestCoast Nationals at Motorsport this is the best event.

Why the die off in value of the Z?
I think Ebay is a bad source for determining the actual value of Zs. Look what the Z sold for at Barrett/Jackson Palm Beach FL: "Lot 309 Looks like it sold for $ 11,556.00. It also appears the same car sold at BJ in AZ last year as Lot 408 for $13,500.00 Both were HLS30-74204." I did a search on this site to review the thread about this auction. Seeing a car in person will determine its real value. I don't think prices are going down, I think there is just more junk being placed on Ebay.

Get it before it goes on Ebay
My friend who is a PERFECTIONIST has 72 Z with a Chevy 350 in that is going to be listed on Ebay in the next week or so. It is not finished BUT it has some great work completed on it. The engine and exhaust are out of this world. He has Wantanabes on it along with the gauges being all aftermarket. My friend refuses to cut corners and that is why he has not yet finished the car. I believe he will want $10K or so for the car and I believe it is worth every dime, he has many JDM parts(that he collected while living in Japan for 18 years 80s and 90s) that he is going to sell as well. Let me know what you are interested in and I will see if he has it and how much. Get the items before they go on Ebay. I got a nice header and 15x8 Wantanabes. I know his son took pictures of the stuff and is ready to list it, but knowing him as I do, I am sure he did not get to it yet. Everything is located in San Diego and picking it up vice mailing it will work in your favor.

Fairlady Z Up For Auction on Ebay!
Drove up to look at the car and parts today, the seller is a great guy and the parts are AMAZING.....this guy has only the best stuff to build this car. I took with me a guy who has experience (living in Japan for 18 years) fixing up and reselling Fairlady Zs. He liked the car but realizes that final price is going to be very high. I am still thinking of buying the lot and then selling off most of the stuff including the Fairlady. I have the $$$ I just have to break even or make money to consider doing it. My friends are trying to talk me out of it. The seller is DETERMINED to sell the car and parts WHOLE and not sub-divide it. I don't think he has time to mail this stuff all around the world. One note, he does not have a Japanese title for it so I don't think sending it back to Japan is an option, if it is re-imported to Japan he would have to meet 2006 vice 1971 smog standards or at least that is the way I understand it. Let me end by saying the pictures and words to not begin to discribe what thei guy really has....I will find it hard to sleep tonight.

Fairlady Z Up For Auction on Ebay!
Made an appointment to see it Saturday morning. I am taking my friend Joe who was stationed in Japan for 16 years. During his time in Japan he fixed up over 20 different Fairladys. Joe says it is a good car it is a good car...BUT if he says it is crap then it is crap. I am looking forward to seeing it. I will do my best to take some pix. The price is getting up there now, it is up to $9.6K.

WHich would you rather have(and post why)?
Because I live in Southern California and have to deal with the traffic I prefer the hydromatic, also as the father of two teenage daughters the automatic is preferred. I have 2 Zs one auto/one 5sp, got one automatic Sentra SE-R, one Montero automatic and one G35 Sport Coupe 6MT, by far my least used car is the G35 because of all the traffic....she got only 25K miles and I have 0wned it for over 3 years. I most PM Bean Dip and get more advice on how to get more power to the wheels of my automatic 240Z.

where to find headers or what kind
My friend who just happens to be a perfectionist used a set of headers for a Model "A" or "B" Street Rod in his 350 Chevy Z conversion. The reason is that street rod headers are made to tuck in close to the block. I hope this helps.
