  1. Welcome! How about posting some pictures of the Z? Will
  2. I have tried to remember that as I post, a couple of times I have forgotten and have been-ahem-reminded! I do know better now. I use the common terms of S30 or specific cars title. I am still trying to learn about the versions and options that were available in countries other than the US-it looks to me like you lot got the few goodies, and we got the rest! Will
  3. Thanks, Good luck, and Welcome! Will PS, fill in your profile so we know where "near me" is so we can send what we find your way.
  4. When I put four pipes at the back of th GTO replica, I used 1 7/8" pipe because that was the smallest Borla made stainless extractor tips for. I ceramic coated (silver) the tubes and they look pretty good-even without the tips! Will
  5. I used this 1 pipe at 3" has approximately 7.01 Square inches of area 4 pipes at X have approximately 7.01 square inches of area 1 of the four will have approximately 1.75 square inches of area meaning the diameter will be approximately 1.5" Will
  6. While there is value to me in every choice I added, the most valuable to me is the searchable archives. Alan, Kats, Enrique, Chris, Carl, Miles, Stephen, ChrisA, Mike, and more, plus a host of names that are no longer adding to threads have left diamonds in the threads they did respond to. Many times I find myself searching for some obscure Z fact, piece, picture, or assembly instruction, and by far and again, I find most strewn (with personality) in the archives. I enjoy everything I get from this club, and have developed friendships, aquaintances, and kidney stones from being an active member! Will
  7. What is the most valuable thing about this club? Post your thoughts!
  8. Come on Bill! Rick is the self-proclaimed one who dusted himself up and posed as a statue to keep from getting caught-this would be just another of his tricks of the trade... It must be just funy to me. Will

I tink in some cases it is ignorance, in some it is simple enthusiams, and in others it is a lack of attention on the parrents part("I think you are trying to get back at your parents, that's what I think." Thornton Mellon(Rodney Dangerfield) Back to School). Will

Any Well done Muscle car would habe braided satainless lines, not covers... Rice is about the looks, not performance, but that is NOT to say performance can't look good, only that the performance comes first, then the "look" is added to it. Will
  11. That is too funny!! Ahh, the things Rick did after he changed his name to Bill! Will

I would have to say YES! with one get out of Rice free card. Most ricers that spend money under the hood put on braided stainless hose covers, silicone plug wire covers, flourescent valve cover paint, matching vacuum and intake hoses, massive dosese of color. If the only changes to the engine are dressing it up with all of this color, it IS rice. But few ricers realy want anyone under the hood-seeing what is there only proves the car is all show no go-exactly what the true ricer does not want anyone to know! So an engine with a polished.painted valve cover could be rice, but only when accompanied by other useless matching coatings/coverings and no real performance upgrades under the hood.. I am going to polish one of my 2400 valve covers, and just clean and detail the other one. I will be using polished/plated fitings and fasteners under the hood with a polished turbo, but all of the hoses will all be black, and the plug wires will be Magnacore red-aw sh!t, that matches the Red top Optima-I guess I am a ricer... Even though Red is the only color Magnacore KV85s come in, and the only color the Optima red top batteries come in.. I guess a pair of long horns on a 70s caddy would doo too! Will
  14. Bambikiller240z posted an article on this installation, but I can't find it either-it was linked from the front page for a while. Will
  15. Mike, That is great to hear! Will
  16. I will be there in my CZC shirt! Maybe even the hat! but I will be driving down in a Volvo:sick: . My wife has concluded that Thomas(not quite two-but really enjoyed the National Aquarium) is ready for Sea World, so driving down in his roadster is out. Oh well more room for the camera scanner, laptop and swapping parts! Will

  18. The lengths of the early two seaters grew from about 162 inches to just shy of 174 inches, with the difference being made in the protrusion of the bumpers and their supports. If memory serves 70-72 were the same size, '73and early 74 were a bit longer because of bumper and bracket changes, and in '75 they gained close to a foot with the 5mph federal bumpers. You may find a good car in your price range, but I would absolutley get an experienced member to check it out-and hopefully show you what to look for. I was told of a car at a local car lot by a member, it was "reduced" to $5,900, and was the covetted "bondo special" no panels had been spared, the interior was a combination of 78-71 parts, and under the hood was evidence of a serious smack to the front. Outside the car was a beautiful 10 footer, closer it was easy to see the headlight buckets were welded to the chassis because they would not allign to the hood and fenders any other way-I would guess that the first wash would have started the rust again, and unless it was kept out of the rain, it would be in a salvage yard within a year from falling bondo. Someone bought it, and I am hoping I am the first to find it in the junk yard-it had a few series one parts...but not $1000 worth-let alone $5900. WIll
  19. Carl suggested exactly what I would have had I been here first. One other note, if the stains are darker than the original color(I missed the auction to know), sometimed very careful application of 409 (of all things) will lighten them-even consderably with repeated application. Will
  20. I bumped the exhaust on my GTO replica from a single to a quad using similar logic-and to look right... Will

Not entirely. Most Ricers only put front and rear parts on their cars, not complete kits, The GTO conversions cover everyting but the roof and the panel below the front windshield. If the entire kit is used, and/or accessorized with appropriate(period pieces used on the original cars) accessories, then the car in question would not be rice. If the owner chose to badge it with Auditt/350Z emblems, well, you get the picture. The line becomes more easily defined when interior and mechanicals are made similar as well. On another related tangent. I am going to use some JDM parts on my car-does that make it rice? I would say no for one reason, I am not trying in any way to make my car look like or represent a JDM model. I am using the parts(Headlight covers, some switches, and an internal panel or two) because of one of two reasons: 1) I like the headlight covers, I would like them if they weren't JDM parts, it just so happens they are. 2) I want to add function to my car that can be accomplished with factory parts(from another country) under a different use-I don't need to engineer something to look like it belongs in the car-Nissan did that for me. All I have to do is make it do what I want it to. Rice is about the manipulation of appearance to imply performance, my use of JDM parts is mostly about manipulation of performance to achieve appearance. Will PS, I added Lawn edging to my second Z after adding a plenum between the airdam and the radiator core, done well it doesn't look bad, and does boost cooling and downforce performance, making it not rice...
  22. One other thing to consider, the adhesive only keeps the wind from lifting the emblem, and weight would make it harder to take...Not that I have ever used a metal hood ornament(or that a metal one could lose a post to a clip.) Will
  23. I've got the front and rear going on my car-came from VB-er-Black Dragon. Will
  24. I use a daub of silicone adhesive from the underside on the posts-it can be removed with NO damage to the posts or the paint, but will not come off on its own-it allows the emblem to be removed and reinstalled easily for replacement, cleaning, touching up off the car, or taking care of rock chips on the hood. Let it cure at least 4 hours before testing at high speed... Will

I would say if a car has more money spent to make it "look" or "sound" quick than spent to actually make the car fast is rice. By quick I mean straight line accelleration. Spoilers, big tires and wheels can help handling on a purpose built car, but, on a hp challenged econobox they just slow the car down and hurt fuel economy. That is rice to me. A body kit alone could be rice, but when completed as a system (Exterior, Interior, mechanicals) to deliver the performance the familiar appearance promises, it is no longer rice. For inexpensive rice, any car that has building materials, Landscape materials, plumbing materials, aircraft or boat pieces on its exterior ARE cheep rice. Will
