  1. Ohm out an original motor and the Honda replacement, and the difference will tell you-if you also ohm out the circuits(all closedswitch settings) they are going into. Using ohms law with the results will paint very clear picture! Will
  2. The whole project should have been the 350F...UGLY! I agree, when the designers wanted to start a new project they should have started a new name, chapter, (roll), and left the Z in a class without frogs. Instead they chose to link a beautiful groundbreaking car(in its day) with original reviews to a marketing machine with contrived links to the original car-the whole thing was a serious case of over promise lineage and don't deliver. Much like ordering a pizza and getting a fillet-o-fish sandwich-both have bread, some kind of sause, and a meat of sorts, they are both food, but not of a similar type . A car that looks like an AUDI TT looks too little like a 240Z to be related. Here they have a "do over" just like ion grade school-lets see if they need another one...or they finally graduate. WIll
  3. Rick, Get a dose of Vegamite fast.... Or is this like the answering machine prank where you record the out going message: "Hello, Hello.......I...can hardly hear you, Speak louder,...LOUDER.....Are you trying? Gotcha! this is my answering machine, leave a message you gullable twit!" I lost several roommates in college that way-did get As for the quarter though! WIll
  4. Welcome, CongratulationZ, and jump on in, the water's great! to both of you! Post some pictures when you get the chance! Will
  5. In doing some research, I find I am wrong, Thor is about the $, he has a club he founded suposably host a race to benefit a hospital-he holds a race to play with his buddies and get PR. In 16 years the race has raised $1,000,000 for the hospital-which sounds good until you look a the value of the cars involved, and the upkeep and repairs they risk or require by racing. The focus of hosting this race is not raising money for a hospital-that is purely an afterthought. In a three page entry form four lines mention the hospital-with a suggested donation of $10 a person with a $325 to $460 plus $10 for each crew member over three entry fee. Obviously raising money for it is not the primary issue in holding the event. The race should not be billed as: Held to raise money for the hospital! It should be billed as: A race held to have fun and show off your cars , and if you want to donate the hospital we wont stop you. Will
  6. While I do like the look of some of the later factory wheels on a 240Z, I agree they are not a vintage look. WIll
  7. Don't get lost in semantics. The gist of what Thor is saying is the Datsun is a good value, and that some of the current european racing club members/owners who were beaten badly by the Z in the day can now afford to feel superior because they can control what races at their club, and allow only cars that would have no contest with even a modified mass produced sports car. He has to stroke them, their egos are still damaged from the thorough trouncing they took worldwide when the 240Z came out and they were driving the entry level Porches, Jags and the like that were just beaten by a bottom feeding japanese car! It is just silly to compare a four year old mass market sports car to a then brand new factory prepped FIAA Group 5 compliant purpose built car. It is like comparing Thor and his article with who ever wins the nobel prize for literature this year, and the piece of work that they submitted. WIll

The covers look very good if you take the time to install them well. here is a link to a thread holding my install instructions, and a pic of my installed cover. The web link in the thread has a closer view. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12725&page=2&pp=15&highlight=dash+cover Will
  9. To me, the biggest problem is they generally do not follow the compound curvature of the roof, but distort it-meaning they scream alteration from almost any level view! Add to that the propensity to leak that the non fitting ones have from forcing the sheet metal to another shape, and you have now added something that usually makes the car rust faster! About fifteen years ago I had thought about adding a power sun roof that actually used the cutout as the cover so that the roof line was not altered at all, and the sun roof would only be noticed from outside when looking down to the roof, but in making my measurements from a couple of perspective donor cars, I would have to have taken out a couple of vertibra to keep from bumping my head on the installed assembly-I still think it is a great idea, but only for our shorter members... WIll
  10. I chose to be nice-at least it looks related to other 350Zs-"Toadesque" if you will... Will
  11. Thanks Alan, We hear "JDM" and our Pavlovian triggers are in hyper drive, lust gets in our loins, and our brains shut down-just like Enrique(and most everyone else) when he is looking at Sydney Moon! Seriously, thanks for keeping us straight-I would rather be wrong on something once than even accidently spreading incorrect info over and over. I didn't realize that only some JDM cars had the knuckles-remember what I said in the first sentance of this post-obviously it applies to my reading posts as well! The harness I am after would be the harness for the combination and marker lights. Other than the sockets that fit in the reflector housings(I don't know it they are the same sockets used on the USA models)I could fab up the harness if I had a wiring diagram(not that it would be all that tough to figure out from scratch). WIll PS here is a picture of one of the pieces I am after, I will take the panels and the switch, but I am really after the switch-I do have other pictures if they will help.
  12. Stephen, I knew they were an option, but I thought it was later in the S30 timeline-I just have not been interested enough, or I have been to damn lazy to check my parts catalog. I like the wheels, they may make it onto my roadster for that very reason, but the ornage paint will be replaced by black or if I paint the car Dark Blue, maybe with dark blue. The ARE mesh I think are too wide(14x7) for the roadster without some modding, but they would look good on the car if I keep it red. Will
  13. I hat to tell you this, but without the car port(s), unless one is on cinderblocks(or a pile of old tires) with no wheels, it just don't count! WIll
  14. Power window assemblies and harness out of a 2 seat JDM S30. Parking light switch from the console (all of the switches) Rally clock assy (2 pieces) steering knuckles(their stock pieces were our competition parts) JDM 240Z front turnsignal housings and harness/pigtails Fog/auxillary lights Will
  15. Arne, Be afraid of what Enrique might give you to drink, a little home-grown tequilla, and you just might wake up having bought all of the cars on "your" siteROFL , and a few other to bootROFL ! The next symptom of Zitus after multiple Z ownership(running or not) is Roadster ownership, followed by multiple Roadster ownership(running or not), followed by...wait, better not get ahead of myself! Will
  16. Dooh! That is why I posted here-to let people know twas me-not bidding agains you(I had no clue)-but bidding... WIll
  17. That is pretty much what I have done to all of my harnesses. A good cleaning with deoxit(connections)/409(Insulation) followed by the application of silver solder, and a rewrap-resistance issues are futile! Will
  18. This is the first day I have ever seen them! WIll
  19. Pulling out the carpet will let you check the floors better than looking under the car(Undercoating can hide a lot), but probing with an icepick is the best way-just seal up your holes, and clear it with the owner first-no body wants to watch someone poke holes in ther car. Look at the Frame Rails first, and the suspension attatchment points-if they have significant rust, go to the next car unless this is ONLY a really cheep parts car with some good parts. Look under the plates on the sills, and into the rockers, under the hatch shelf, this is inaddition to the areas you already know to look at. WIll PS, there is a great deal more info and detail hidden in the archives-ther are even some pictures!
  20. You had me until the last sentance... Make the area with sound dampening-fit the foam to the tools-no movement, perfect organization-and NO NOISE! Will
  21. If you wanted or needed to replace interior or exterior pieces in your Z, would you use? Pick as many as you will explaine! Post why-some of us aren't as sharp as you are, and want to know what you believe to be obvious!
  22. A little JB weld putty goes a long way, and can be shaped to look just beautiful...if you can't find a better suggestion. Will
  23. OK, I just bid on it to make a mold of the turn fob, and the arm, the rest of the parts look like they are shared with the later version, if someone wants it (Or has one they would loan me for a week) worse than me, please allow me to make molds for those few with really early Zs. Will
  24. You should take it to an AC shop to have any residual freon removed, then you can take it out. In most cases you will not mess with the heater for more than removing the capilary line that runs from the AC control to the evaporator core(it looks like a thick wire, and is usually just stuck in the fins of the core.), and the wiring for turning on the compressor. You will need to cover the holes in the firewall that will be open when you take out the freon lines. Everything else is usually pretty easy to follow. But the Ain the 240Z was at best a dealer installed option, and at worst a home brew concoction-you may have a mess, or you may have the situationI just typed about... Will
  25. They are a terrific replacement-you will be very happy with the '77! My '76 had one for years...very nice to live with! Will
