  1. Larry, I know there are people out there who think the primary thing wrong with a 350Z is that there are people who think there is something seriously wrong with the 350Z. That is why the first word and the last word(well, poll choice) was given to them. I would rather hear the logic and passion:tapemouth of their opinions than not, I posted this poll to get that, I know we have members that own or have owned 350Zs. I expected and hoped they would get involved-the last thing I ever want is a poll with only my choices showing. I am absolutley not of the mindset that when your opinion is important I'll give it to you, and I NEVER ask a question I don't want the answer to. I though post number 5-even with the tongue in cheek, would have made that clear. Now, none of that means in any way I have to agree with any given answer, nor does it preclude me from changing my own. I have spoken at length to 350Z owners in my local club because I want to gain an understanding of their attraction to the car that I did not get from putting 1,200 miles on a track version-and I will admit your design thread inspired me to post this poll and thread. So far, I still haven't got the "it" of a 350Z. The biggest issue I have with the 350Z-even more than my perception of ugly-is exactly the point you and Stephen made. Nissan touted how strongly related it was to the 240Z, They spent ungodly sums of money to get the word out there that this 350Z was essentially the modern evolution of the 240Z. The 350Z is a lot of good and great(and even ugly) things, but a modern 240Z it is NOT:disappoin ! In my opinion the 350Z is a accounting and marketing achievement, it is, after all, an in-house G35 Kitcar that has a pipe dream link to the 240Z from the Marketing department In a nutshell, Nissan lied, and the 240Z and the 350Z ARE as related as apples and oranges. WIll
  2. His biggest complaint was that Nissan was more than happy to sponsor golf, Bicycle events, and marathons, but didn't want to help out in a sport in which their porduct was used...With NO connecttion to Honda other than ownersip of a car, he had parts and expertise tossed his way form all over... I'll get with him over the weekend for more info, but if an award winning (My parts purchases at work haha!) Parts Manager at a well and long established Nissan Dealership has troubles... Will
  3. My info came from an in depth conversation with the parts manager at the local Nissan dealer who has switched form a 350Z to the S2000 for the reaons given. He is racing in this area competitively. Will

This is beginning to sound like something that should be in Nissan Sport...nudge, nudge, wink, wink.... Will
  5. Now wait, the Roadster came out before the mgb-it was completely sytyled before the mgb, it was completely mocked up before the mgb, it was on the road before the mgb, who copied who... If somehow it was a copy, it would be the first and to my knowledge the only copy Nissan made with a larger engine and improvements everywhere else too... Will
  6. Tomohawk, I'm not following you in the mounting, but don't let that slow you down. The glass mounts have a metal plate that glues to the window, and a fitted recepticle that slides over it that is held in place by a set screw. Will
  7. Shop the aftermarket covers, before you buy them, they can be had new for as low as $40 plus shipping.
  8. Been there, done that! It is a Gentex mirror(most domestic cars(and imports) use their versions If it is just an autodimming version it will have three wires, the map lights may require a fourth(I have seen them both ways), a compass is four or five and a autodimming mirror that also controls the side meirrors-well, I'm not quite through with that jewel... These mirrors all are a glass mount, and the adaptor kit does not work for use in a Z. WIll PM me for more...
  9. Or just count the number of turns... Will
  10. The plastic socket pops off the ball, and then unscrews from the rod. The boot slips over the rod, and presses partly through the firewall. Shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes on a bad day with Murphy on your shoulder! WIll
  11. Maybe it's time for a larger wizzards hat! Will
  12. similar, but not the same, the mirrors are in the Nissan Comp catalog, and have been the subject of a healthy number of threads. Will
  13. That belongs to a member here! Will
  14. While I can agree with all you and Arne just said, the one real argument there is how much less it costs to put an S2000 in the same arena-much less ahead in the same race! Honda support and sponsorship is sooo much more available than the Nissan counterparts. Two cars for racing-aproximately equal on the track-one is substantially lighter on the wallet, has far more support from its manufacturer, and third party vendors-I am afraid Nissan wouldn't like the choice I would make-but not enough to change the circumstances. Will
  15. Reminds me of the Mr. Bean episode with the tank... WIll
  16. I have seen the stuf sold before, but I just used weed trimmer cable in the same diameter as what was there. Will
  17. Stephen, I hate to tell you this, but I have shipped the doors from both, trust me, the doors from a 2+2 are longer-they use the same hinges and lock materials(for a given year) but are not interchangeable with the coupe, neither is the door glass, the stainless frames or the actuators... I have a set of inner door panels, door glass and glas frames I can lay together for a picture tomorrow to show you. If the doors were the same size, they and their parts would be as interchangeable as the seats from a 2+2 and a coupe(there is only one extra lever and one extra function on a 2+2 seat, but they will bolt up-where as the 2+2 door is larger than the opening for a 2 seater) AS to the openings at the upper rear of the trim panel in a 2 seater-you got me! Will
  18. I am going to make some molds after I clean up and repair my dry rotted examples as well. If I can't get them in good enough shape to make molds from, I will have to carve new ones and make molds form the carvings. Will
  19. That helps a bunch! The reason I needed to find out what actually belonged to my car was so I can make up some replacements. How close to stock are you looking for? I am going to be using Stainless and a soft urethane- the insulators should look bone stock, but the brackets and fasteners obviously won't be cadmium plated. I will re-sort the insulators tomorrow, and hopefully have molds for all of the insulators made by next monday. Then I will start on the forms for the brackets. Somewhere in between, I will find stainless fasteners. Will
  20. TomoHawk, From memory, there is a ball(BB) in that mechanism that provides the click. It sounds like your mechanism has lost one! It is held in compression by its interference fit. I have a HVac control from a 76/77 system out, tomorrow I will see if I can get a pic of it. Will
  21. It occurred to me those same cutouts are also used in later RHD S30s for poser window switches... Will PS those pics are of a restored and an NOS door panel.
  22. Arne, I have all three, A NOS dash, A restored Dash(done in Washington), and a dash with a DashCaps cover-the NOS is perfect. The restored Dash is far better than a cracked dash, and in all honesty, the DashCap(installed properly) is far closer to the NOS dash. I have posted pictures of all three in other threads and my gallery, and the $100 for the cap was by far the best deal, it will not crack, the only places you can even tell it is a cover(because of the time and energy I took in installation) is at the outsides of the Dash-and there is no chance of seeing them with the doors shut! I have had a couple of well versed ZNutz miss the fact that dash had a cover on it, and comment on how wonderfully I had preserved it... Maybe I need to get all three together and take some more pictures, I took and posted pictures of the NOS and restored dashes side by side. WIll
  23. 1) That is a bar for attatching hog rings to, it is there to provide tension to the fabric and hold it in place. 2) The wire isn't actually sewn in, it is slid into a tube of fabric made for it. You are expected to use the old hardware, or replace it as necessary-the parts you described in #1 are probably part of what you need in #2. 3) add some 1/2" foam, MIke W wrote up a short explanation on the finer points of upholstery installation here: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23577&highlight=seat+covers I will look for a pic of the placement of the hog ring anchors for you and post if I find it. Will
  24. That actually was the first question I talked myself out of-I am not managing you, so there is no point in asking a question we all already know the two letter answer to... Will
