  1. Zak, I handled that already-sorry! Will
  2. hls30.com replied to jmark's topic in Racing
Thanks for the great pictures! Wish I could have been there! Will
  3. This is from a man who knows SUs-take it to heart, and the carbs to ZTherapy! Will
  4. It is all in what parts they had on hand, and what parts they were out of-would you stop productiuon of something you you could sell every one you could finish over some upholstery clips? NOT! Will
  5. I would follow 26ths advice, you may shoot your nose to spite your face otherwise. This is one of those measure ten times cut once kind of things Will
  6. Try one of these http://www.borla.com/products/polished_tips.aspx I have the single round intercooled on my Alpha1 GTO Rebody. Will
  7. Drop in an L28ET, you'll be able to catch all three gears in a 2+2-or atleast I could in mine. Will
  8. If I were ready for a low vin now, I would take $7,500 cash and put $6,500 in my wallet, $500 in my other back pocket, and the final $500 in my left front pocket and go see the car. If everything is as expected or better(for the $7,500 asking price), bring out the $6,500 and offer it on the spot, who ever is selling the car will call the owner right then, if the owner says no, offer $7,000 while she is still on the phone, if the answer is still no(because of the previous offers), shoot the wad and take the car off the market-in the time you have been thinking about it, if I was after one right now, that one would have already been on the way home with me, and you would be still waiting....for the next one. Will PS-not trying to be a PITA, just trying to make sure you can actually get the car if you want it.
  9. Two wire hookup...it is more than likely a resistor in "an abs injected box", and probably effectively hooks up to the temperature sensor, fooling the cold start valve in to working-notice all feed back is for performance right after startup! Will
  10. I collect Z parts and I have a problem... I have run out of space! Will
  11. If you really think an ECM will solve your problem, I have quite the collection I was getting ready to ebay, pm me the numbers off yours, and I'll send you a replacement for $30 including shipping if it is in my collections.
  12. Sounds like a case of tipping the battery in a turn and shoring the posative terminal to the hood(look for a burn mark on the hood in the area that would be above the battery with the hood closed. I would just replace the harnes with one from the same year-too easy for theburnt wires to fuse all of that insulation together, and the burnt plastice produces some pretty nasty checmicals that will cause corrosion to start. Will
  13. Ther e are a couple of thngs to check as well. 1)Your cold start valve could be stuck in the or made to be in the "on" position. 2) A PO could have messed with the AFM, making it read more air in the system that there realy is Both of those will richen the mixture as you have described, but could be in effect fooling your ecm. Putting a 10K pot or a resistor on the temp sensor lead is an old trick user to richen the mixture by fooling the ecm into thinging the car was always running cold. Bending the armature in the AFM can also be used to richen or lean out the mixture. checking for these conditions is easy and could just give you a 10 minute small effort fix(by undoing them). 14. Get the Deoxit, follow the instructions, know what you did is the right thing and move on to the next thing that you want to do once and be done with! Will PS this is sort of like using metal hole covers instead of the rubber floor plugs, spend a few(and I mean less than $15) dollars and get the right tool for the job, do it once and be done!
  15. Don't sand anythign but points! Sanding grinds corosion off a contact point and into the groves the sanding makes-meaning the corrosion will be back even worse! Get some Deoxit-you can buy it direct-and use it, I wrote a thread about using it, and it is the stuf! Will
  16. If you total the new evidently uninstalled parts listed, they don't come to $900! The installed parts are now used, and after three years outside, some of them will probably need replacing. Then you have to add the cost of going to get the car with a trailer-don't use tow dolly or bar wth old tires! I wonder about storm damage to the car-one of the "laid up times" was in the era of Katrina... Will
  17. Have a look! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-Z-Series-1972-Datsun-240z-new-and-used-parts-No-Reserve_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6187QQihZ007QQitemZ170080312792QQrdZ1 $1800 for a rusty parts car that has been sitting twice for three years for and a few restoration parts I wonder how much of the "lots of" rust has eaten at the structural integrity of the car. I am sure nothing special was done to restart the car after sitting-either time. The ad does say the carbs need to be tuned again-if ZTherapy did them recently, mileage-wise, and then they were let sit for three years they probably need to be dissassembled and cleaned, not tuned. Three year old gas in new carbs, new fuel lines, and an old gas tank that sat for three years earlier.... I bet some of what she paid to have done and expects to get back from the sale will have to be done again, and probably have more done to boot. That auction would be very lucky to draw the total she has listed in parts alone. $2,200 (bare auction price plus new tires) would buy a much better Z, or a great many more needed parts. Will
  18. Double check for major vacuum leaks-in the intake tubing, maybe in replacing the small vacuum lines you bumped a loose connection on the big stuf and now it is allowing a leak past the AFM. Will
  19. 26th, I wasn't criticizing, I didn't say he hasn't done what he was paid to do, nor that he hasn't spent any money, only that he considers Involvement with the ZCCA outside of those actions that are a part of what he came to do. Once again, He is smart enough not to pay someone for something they will do anyway. Will
  20. Carl. My point here was specific to current leadership and direction which has proven to be devoid of any appreciation of Nissans history. Will I forgot to add Carlos is interested only on the bottom line, in his eyes free advertising is worth every penny he paid for it, and there is no such thing as enough profit. If he can make a buck and save a buck part of it goes in his pocket, if he makes a buck and gives it to the ZCCA, nothing goes in his pocket. He can never have his pockets full enough, and is always hungry. Will
  21. As I recall, Nissan spent something like $200,000,000.00 on the entire Dream Garage ad. campaign. All to remind us that they were "DATSUN" and there was a time when Mr. K cared about the end customers here in America. On the other hand, I'm not sure what they spent on the Vintage Z Program - let's say it was $40K per car and they resold...what was it? 38 Z's. Let's guess that they sold the Vintage Z's to the dealers for $20K each... that means that Nissan USA spent $760,000.00 on the Vintage Z Program - for which they got about ...what.....$10,000,000.00 worth of free publicity. I'd say that they made out just fine on that deal... Carl. My point here was specific to current leadership and direction which has proven to be devoid of any appreciation of Nissans history. Will
  22. Thanks fot the story-it is good to know The history of those cars. Will
  23. Really what it amounts to is how many more vehicles will Nissan sell from being active in the ZCCA than not. Nate alluded earler that he will get Titan soon-even with Nissan acting as they are, That amounts to one sale that had nothing to do with involvement in the show-absolutely lowering the ROI of involvement! If Nate is the only one at a show in need of a new vehicle, why in the world would Nissan have any involvement-they aren't going to sell anything...None of this is to pick on Nate, I was just continuing the example... How many 350Z buyers were influenced to buy the car by Nissans efforts at the last ZCCA show they participated in? Directly, not many, the pull came directly from energies and enthusiasm of the OWNERS who displayed their cars. Seeing and talking about all of the work and effort on the cars is what got perspective buyers panties in a wad to go get one. A big banner and and some free stuf add to the atmosphere, and do heighten the excitement, but it is the cars in the show that get people frothing at the wallet. Nissan can't buy that kind of exposure to the Z crowd anywhere else, but by the nature of the event, we give it to them for free, and how can we fault them for not supporting something we are going to do anyway? The only certian way to get Nissan involved in this situation is to exclude the current model cars if they do not participate-not that I am saying this is a good idea-or even suggesting that it be done. The fact is that if we cut the shirt tails too close, they can't use the massive welspring of enthusiasm from the event as free advertising for the 350Z. If Nissan had no current models in a show, they would get active(or stupidly pissed off) in a hurry-this is exactly what Carlos would do to a parts manufacturer who didn't play ball. What kind of a message would that send Nissan? Pretty much the same message they are sending us-and the current owners of 350Zs by noy participating. ... you don't matter. Will
  24. That is the difference between cars selling for as low as $65,000 with a healthy margin and cars that sell for the cost of an interior refurbishment to one of the afore mentioned cars-with no margin.-not to mention the 240Z was a terrific value when it came out-the Mercades and BMWs had "snob appeal"-not that they weren't well built, but thery were for people who could be conviced that a Mercedes or a BMW could do a better job of getting a buyer from point A to point B. Obviously a healthy number didn't buy their persuasion! What stops Nissan from that type of plan is: 1) Nissan already knows that the restoration and subsequent sale of an early Z is not a profit maker. To qoute a good friend of mine: "It costs just a much to restore an inexpensive car as it does an expensive one given like condition and parts availability-so save the time and enegry for one you can make some money on." 2)Nissan is no longer made up of "car guys". Carlos stifles them into hiding, or the accountants let them go. One of my friends(a Nissan Parts Depratment Manager) says that Nissan moves people through the position that serves him regularly, and refuses to keep anyone who enjoys and accells at the work(a car guy). Nissan wants the typical part counter guys, "if it aint in the book I am too stupid and lazy to help you." They want no investent in people, they want only an investment in flushing cars through the dealers. They want a tupperware sale-either the lid fits or it doesn't. Carlos would say goodwill doesn't buy groceries. Will
