240Z Combo and T/S switch repair Service
Dave, I will be spending at least one full day-probably-two pulling parts at the farm. The plan is for this to happen during the week of March 12-16th depending on weather. I will be completely stripping a several late '71-'73 240Z rust buckets, a '83ZXT and cutting out some patch panels. So pulling the harness is in the plan, I kinda figured you might be headed to your announcement... I will send you all of the engine harnesses, and label them as to vin and mfg date, and try to keep even the damaged ones intact for your research. Ther is only one series one up there, and it has the harness I would like to get back. I will PM you a list before sending all of it to you so I don't send things you don't need. Will

240Z Combo and T/S switch repair Service
Me thinks he doth protest too much...Niet! Wayne, Yep, I found the box Monday night-probably eight sets from varying years-including a NOS set and a used JDM set! I need to go through them for photographiong for the parts variation thread(I know ther are at least four versions-two non USA-of the grip at the end of the turn signal lever)and send the used ones out for parts and two rebuilds(including the JDM one!), but I am planning another culling of the herd of parts cars in a couple of weeks, and will probably wait until I can send another eight to ten sets with them. and get three sets of 240Z and the JDM set redone. I will also pull a bunch of harnesses (or connectors if the harnesses are already cobbled or cooked). Will

Datsuns at the PDX Roadster show
I see the point in both perspectives, a trailer queen, and a driver. As long as there are people willing to park a car to keep condition, and there are people who are not willing to keep their passion for driving at bay, there will be both. Together, both make up a healthy situation. Most POs seriously enjoyed driving their cars, and as such were used to seeing them in "lived in" condition. Kats has one of the most impressive cars I have ever seen Photographs of, Alan too, Carl has one beautiful 240Z that I saw in Orlando(though I didn't get to tell him so and shake his hand-and he probably has more), Sean, C David(with his magical metal flake paint) and the rest of the Fla owners who graced all of the visitors with the gift of letting guests look at their cars. My '72 will be a trailer queen until the day after Daytona, then it will be racking up (S)miles as I use it for what it was made to provide, driving enjoyment. I am chomping at the bit to see Mckraks car and either (or both) of the twins 26th has. My "72 will be a trailer queen until I get back from Daytona, then it will be racking up (S)miles as I drive it when ever I get the urge and don't have to cary more than one passenger. I will build a low vin full time trailer queen time capsule later, and I am collecting parts for it now. When it is finished, I fully expect to go back through the '72 and have another fifteen years experiencing my favorite view of the car while it is under its own power! I simply could not have a trailer queen without a driver. WIll

Question on MSA's Full Face Dash Cover
Mke, The gages come in and out of the front of my restored dash fairly easily. I did an upgrade to the tach about a year after I mounted gages in the dash(still not in the car...). I did let it warm up in the sun before I begin, but it wasn't any tougher than pulling origianl gages out of their resting place for 30 plus years... I have another upgrade gage or two to install after I restore them, so I will be revisiting this swap action fairly soon. Will

Question on MSA's Full Face Dash Cover
I glued a spacer to the emblem, and then the spacer to the dash-all using the adhesive that came with the cover. I made the spacer out of two pieces of small diameter rigid pvc tubing to make cutting it to the proper thickness easy, and glued them to the emblem first. In the 13 years I had the car and the cover in it, the emblem never came off. Will PS You're Welcome!

Special Datsun Build Rear Spoiler!!!
They should have mounted that special one off factory spoiler to the wealthy man! Pretty obvious his ears would be the appropriate place for the mounting hardware(on either side of a hollow, useless vioid)! Will PS, If he likes it great! Not for me...

Question on MSA's Full Face Dash Cover
Yup, that is exactly what I am saying, the cover is an overlay, and it fits into the openings and recesses of the original dash, making them smaller(that is why the speedo and tach can't come through their holes with the cover is installed). Shaving the emblem-if done carefully-won't even be noticeable, is easy-I used a flat bastard file-and will make the cover less noticeable. Look at the picture you posted, the depth of the emblemm cutout stands out, and the edges are noticeable in it as they cover the emblem(though not easily see in that picture). Mounting the emblem in the cut out instead of under it makes it look more as it was designed to and less as evidence something was fooled around with! Will

Question on MSA's Full Face Dash Cover
Tom, I have never installed a cover on a pulled dash, I wouldn't think the extra work of Removal and Replacement of the entire dash would be especially helpful to the installation. With the dash inplace, you have a portable solar oven to heat the cover and help it form, and a convenient place and stable area to work on the dash. Out of the car, you would have to add and retain heat someother way, and though the dash will sit fine on its mounting points, you have to have a place to make working on it convenient. the only clearance issues in installation are handled by removing and replacing the trim piece between the windshield and the dash, the steering column cover-and sometimes the steering wheel and loosening the heater control panel. I have always changed the bulbs with the dash in the car-but then, I am a glutton for contortional punishment!! Again, I haven't removed a dash to install a full face cover, so I may well be missing something you found! Jeff The speedometer and tachometer come out the front, the small gages come out the rear. An advantage of using the bare minimum of adhesive is the cover is easily and safely removed to pull the gages, and because silicone adhesive is used, cleaning it up to replace the cover is a very easy two scond thing too. A little morale support please.....
Dave is right, When you drive your car, what do you see close at hand? The steering wheel and the Dash, as long as the performance of the car is up to par, having great examples of these two items and the rear view mirror can make a world of difference in how you feel driving the car. Your need for maral support will fade wth your first drive with the dash installed! Get a buddy and do it right-don't risk hurting that dash on installation! Will

Question on MSA's Full Face Dash Cover
I'll hunt dowwn a post a link to that thread momentarily, the keys to the install are-let the heat of the day do the fitting before you glue! On the dash emblem, when I put a cover on my 280, I actually removed the emblem and shaved the sides so it would fit the hole in the cover. Just be certian to keep the sides straight as you shave and use a spacer to keep the emblem from pressing into the hole. If you are careful, most people would be hard pressed to realize you covered the dash, and certianly those unfamiliar with Zs would never notice! Will

New Club DVD!
I will list the competition parts catalogs I have over the weekend, The earliest is from '74, and I have several from the 80s- I'll scan them all even though there wasn't a great deal of change in the S30 parts as they added new Z models. Will

Should Zs be in a museum or on the road?
Personally I will have two, one to show(an early low vin) and one to go(the '72 I am preparing for Daytona). But both will be seen at the curb in front of the house and at special events, and weekly car shows. If the cars are reserved only for shows, most of America will forget about them-the sad truth is relative to the entire population, not that many people go to car shows. To keep the awareness up, and the interest building, the cars have to be seen. Will

New Club DVD!
Mike, I have two vintage readers from my local Nissan Dealer-they are just an apropriate light bulb and optics! Enigma, My consergn would be using the fisch in the garage or trailer where there is no ISP. Granted a parts book has essentially the same info, and will also be on the DVD, but being able to verify between sources can be worth something! As well, paralleling a thread for a month or more back, having the info local means never losing it! Will

Should Zs be in a museum or on the road?
Should the S30s and S130s be museum pieces or drivers? What are your thoughts and why?

New Club DVD!
One further note, if you have something over sized to contribute, please PM Mike and send it to him, he has the copy write exemption, and can take those documents larger than letter or legal size to a professional shop that won't touch them without the exemption. Those items that are not oversized and do not require the use of professional services, I can still handle, but on the big stuf there is no point in adding more postage and time to the project. Will
