What is wrong with the 350Z?
In your opinion, what is wrong with the 350Z? Is it just right? Is it toad? Is it just to hatch space challenged? Are the wheels just too darn small? Use the poll for ideas, and fill in your details in a post.

Step lamp-in the parts book-not in the cars
I think most of the S30 fiber board had the perferated cut outs, the covering simply didn't give a clue what was under it. Will steplightcutout.bmp

Aftermarket replacements are about $20-$40, if you pull the stickers and harware off your originals, you can fool most people. Will

L28ET, how common/rare are they in the US?
I have several L28ets, L28Es R200s and sets CV joints in storage, and an entire '83 2+2 turbo. I have never paid more than $200 for a bare engine, $300 for a complete engine, or $400 for an entire and complete car. If you need all or part of one, I would take care of you at what it costs me. I can even take care of it today-I have spares for my projects, and can replace the spares through time. WIll

Early 240Z Rearview Mirror - Is this correct?
More info on the Mirrors. From my parts book, (1972, 81- -2), it looks like three different mirrors were specified for different drive train versions, my book shows no applied dates, but 96321-E4100 "ASSY-INSIDE BACK MIRROR",for Automatic cars 96321-E4600 "ASSY-INSIDE BACK MIRROR" for Manual which was superseded by 96321-E4601. Step lamp-in the parts book-not in the cars
Dan, Please chalk up the partnumber issue to reading the parts book to my son as a bed time story-if it isn't booring he will stay up longerand bed time was 8pm) in sunglasses(I had run out of contacts, and earlier in the day, my son had snatched my normal glasses off and thrown into a buisy street by-a story in its self...). Next time I pull a number from the parts book, I'll re check when the boy is asleep or post the page to avoid confusion and delay(Oh no-the Thomas the Tank syndrome...) If you can get one please post some measured and detailed pictures, if you can get more, put me on the list behind Chris. Will

Step lamp-in the parts book-not in the cars
I was leafing thropugh the Nissan parts bood, and notices that there is a door light called a "assy-harness step lamp".part number 24016-E4100, that I have not seen before. I see it applies through 7/73, but I have only evere seen them installed in one car, and I believe those were actually taken from a 280zx and installed. Has anyone got a picture of the genuine article? Thanks, WIll

Hard line brackets and insulators help
Howdy All, I am in need of some help. I had pulled the hard (fuel, vapor, brake) line mounts and insulators, from my '72 and stored them in a large ziplock bag. Evidently, in strippping several of the same parts from '71-'83 cars, I have put them all in the same bag, and now have no idea which ones are original to the car. Has anyone got a set tucked away for or from plating/refurbishing that they could lay out the insulators for(I can figure out the brackets from the insulaotrs and position) a picture? I checked the my printed copy of the fische, FAST, and the parts book(Oct, '69-Dec, '72), and none of the diagrams show the insulators/brackets(not even partnumbers) unless I missed something. Thanks! WIll

Your feelings about Z's
Here is my contribution to the next 350Z and its ad. First, what I love about my 240Z and what is completely missing in the 350Z. Favorable Passion. I will leave the reasons for this to another post-I wrote about it and took the three pages back out-not pertinant to this thread. It suffices to say that there ar evidently no more car people with any authority in Nissan. Accountant are not passionate about cars, they are passionate about getting as much for as little as possible-good for those who love profits, and completely disappointing for those that love people, love lfie and love cars. I have been favorably passionate about S30s since I saw my first onein 1970 at seven years old from a school bus window, and thought, "I am going to get one of those devil-fish cars." I have driven a great many cars from a 3 cyl what ever the hell it was, to an Aston Martin Z, to a Shelby GT (all but the 3cyl can be seen in my gallery), and though many of the cars are incredibly faster than the 240Z, none are as fun to live with. I posted this in a thread where I was accused of being an old man "talking about one of them "new fangled things" that you just don't understand." I have driven every version of the 350Z that has been available in my area-nice car to drive-good, even great technology-poor connection to the NIssan promise of a 240Z relationship. If I could arange to drop into one without having to look at or be seen in it, it would make for fun transportation. Please note the use of "Nice" and "Transportation", two words I have never used in talking about a 240Z. The 350Z reminded me of a an ugly woman with a favorable passion for sex and nothing else-a fantastic way to spend a blindfolded few weeks, but no chance I would keep her for a lifetime. Maybe that does make me an old man... The technoilogy in the 350Z is good stuf, the styling is reminiscent of the 80s description of "a gumdrop with wheels". The car looks like an Audi TT-remove the badges, take it into an Audi Dealer(or the TT into a Nissan dealer) and watch them get ready to tune it up-the technicians can even confuse them. One of the most strikeing things about the 240Z is the only other car with a similar profile is another S30! I have made my opinion pretty plain in a good many threads. The 350Z is not a bad car, it simply isn't a Z to me. It is a tuned up G35 wrapped with more ugly and bigger wheels. The biggest lie from Nissan was the advertising that the 350Z was a continuation of the 240Z. A Z should never have more in common with an Audi TT than an S30. Nissan Painted a picture of a relationship where one does not exist. Useing a 240Z to build hype tells me Nissan didn't feel the car could do it on its own, whether that was due to the lack of a favorably passionate champion is more a comment on the new culture at Nissan than I want to get into. I would like the 350Zs looks better if it were covered with the sheetmetal from a Ford Fiesta, and that is just sad. Will PS I tinke previous 300 was the second most beautiful Z design.

Site Ettiquette
I think the only guide the threadsposts need is respect. 1)Respect the intentions of the thread starter(unless they were disrespectful-then report the thread) 2) Respect those who have posted before you(unless they were disrespectful-then report the post) 3) Respect those who would read your post. If every post was written like it was to your Mother, your father, or your best friend, the small number of problems that are occassionally in the threads would evaporate, and the "conversations" would remain essentially pointed and informative-yet fun. Lets not forget that if we all condemn this site to posting threads that have no or limited coverage the archive, we would be spending a great deal of time waiting for something new in a 30something year old car to show up, or technology to change. I would venture a guess that other than the history of the Z, and conversations about Datsun literature and the differences in the series one cars(later versions did not have nearly the variation in parts example to example), there would not be a whole lot of classic Z related info that the archives don't already contain. Even this thread has several incarnations in the archives... I will admit that a questions on some purely specification or procedural data gets old-how many threads on how to successfully pull a spindle pin do we really need? But maybe that should be taken as the proof of a need several members have brought up. The need to consolodate some procedural topics into a single complete(at current technology) technical article. I am not saying to remove old threads, simply to make an article that is easy to find and complete-respecting the needs (and skills)of the newbie... Will

Heater Control Panel
I have sent suspicious sellers with something I want .03 via paypal to get the identification file on the person, to aid in figuring out whether or not the person is legitimate-after being burned three times by "transient" paypal users. I also request the personal info from ebay as soon as I place a bid in a questionable circumstance-informing ebay of any "irregularities" before payment is required-in all four cases the items and the sellers were removed before the auctions. There are irregularities here, and I would absolutely check-(feedbacks from a year and a half ago, on ebay since late in 02...) Sounds like a three cent investment is in order to me-for someone who is after the HCP. Will

Top End Performance triangulated rear strut bar...
Ron, Thanks for the overview, I still haven't seen it, though I have found several sites with serious posts that sing its praises, so I have no way of comparing anything except the name and intended use. From the sound of your enthusiasm, they obviously are far better at engineering than establishing an ecommerce site! I didn't mean to imply in any way that situation was your doing! Will

Top End Performance triangulated rear strut bar...
Ron, I am not trying to knock them, even though my response is harsh, I just want to be sure they realize that decision is costing them more money than it is saving them-perception is fact on the spur of the moment, and if it only takes a moment to order and leave money good things can happen, when it takes a moment to get bothered, and another moment to leave, good things don't happen. I realize that not everyone knows as much or as little as I do about the internet, but if there is a perception problem that stops money coming in, free is way too expensive... WIll

Top End Performance triangulated rear strut bar...
I visited using both Firefox and IE, neither would grant me landing rights-granted my gnat settings are "0 tollerance". A real business site can cost as little as $105 a year at godady, a Paypal shopping cart is free. Any business I have ever encountered using free interference paid hosting is not getting enough from its web presence. It is the old adage, jump in with both feet, or stay on the bank especially when the cost is less than 30 cents a day... How much better can the PDK version be? Adjustment is nice, but just like the repositionable pedals in my truck, I probabaly would never use it. I would verify and correct the distance between the shock towers to get everything out of the brace it was designed for, not use an adjustment to install a brace to hold the suspension in a position that was already out of spec! Will.

Top End Performance triangulated rear strut bar...
I just went to the PDK Fabrication site, and I hope they do not realize what being so disrespectful with popups says to a customer. If anybody connected to them reads this, please patch it through to them. More than one pop up means you would rather give the business a customer tried to bring to your ecommerce site to someone else. If you don't care for doing your own business any more than that, I don't care about doing business with you. They may have the best product out there, but they don't want to sell it as much as they want to earn a quarter from popups-in my book they just cut off their nose to spite their face. As a Southerner, I think anyone making the conscious decision to partake in breeding and feeding gnats, and then shoveling them my way has earned the loathsome disrespect they showed me by doing it in the first place. It isn't like it is difficult to have the popups after the visit, and not in the way of it. I think the Tep experience will do just fine, Along those lines, the fitament issues are more than likely exactly what Jayru hinted at: "...the car was already flexed/tweaked a little..." These cars are more than 30 years old, and we all know the stupid stunts the PO pulled... Will
