  3. Finish your car first, then buy it ! Will
  4. The only set of '73 bumper parts I have handy are on my '73-sorry! I do have a couple of sets of front and rear mounts for early bumpers(I am using the euro bumbers as well) Will
  5. lift the panel in the console that is below the radio and contains the defroster switch. The fuse box is in the area it covers. Will PS http://www.classiczcars.com/classifieds/index.php
  6. After I took the time to type the suggestions for the first two it occurred to me... "It isn't hard, and is pretty simple to follow":.........a soft bound Factory Service Manual. Maybe I should have made my point simpler... WIll
  7. Sounds like your very first move should be to get a factory service manual-it shows you how everything is put together. 1) Replace then one at a time-peel the old one out, clean any adhesive residue off completely, do a dry fit to be sure the new weatherstrip will lof how to line up the weatherstrip. Apply ney adhesive and then the weatherstip, move on to the next one and repeat.Laquer thinner will remove the old weatherstrip adhesive. 2) The bushings in your shifter are probably gone-fallen apart and awy-and the pivott shaft is bouncing as you drive making the noise, and quieting down with the pressure for the weight for your hand, Bushings are about $5 at the dealer, easily replaceable, 20 minute job at most(assuming you ahave the parts. Remove the console(5 phillips screws), remove the boot (4 phillips screws), remove the E-clip retaining the pivot pin, and take out the shifter, clean it, inset the new bushings(Lube with silicone gel if you have it) nad replace in the reverse order. 3) It isn't hard, and is pretty simple to follow. Will
  8. Start the car at night in the dark, pop the hood and watch for sparks-sounds like your new plug wires are bad. If you see sparks under the hood, you probably found your problems-the cyls that aren't running strong are probably all in the same loom at some point and bleeding to each other. Will
  9. Looking in the parts books(ours and everybody elses) there seem to be two "factory fog light switches, one with embossing to match the hazzard switch, and one that was simply a black lever with a sharp bend in it, 3/4 to the end-no scanner yet, but when I get one, I'll post the picks and drawings I have. Will PS any chance of a better pic of the situation?
  10. I know I have several sets of early ones, but over the holidays, I'll give a look for a set of '73s-You need the filler brackets, not the bumper brackets? Will
  11. E, How you gonna get those emblems to look right on that car? What about making a wiring diagram for that! Will
  12. Al, I was really aiming my question at Ramses... Will
  13. I hope EBay actually tried to catch the "would be thief" rather than simply pull the ad-but they can't make any money catching thieves, and the theives don't steal ebays money, so I probably not. Will
  14. Which brackets do you need? (early/late) Will
  15. Looks pretty fine! Congrats! Will
  16. In 2001 or 2002, I had a business meeting in Columbia, SC at 8am so I felt the house at 4:30 to go. I headed back home at noon, and at 9pm when I got close to home, found that At 11am Savannah was placed on manditory evacuation, and the Georgia State patrol blocked all incoming traffic. I drove around Savannah on US 1 looking for a way in. The highway patrol also blocked all sothbound traffic on US 1 at I-16, so I spent two days camping in my '73Z at the corner of US1 and I16. Luckily there was a gas station and though they lost power, the toilets were working. I was one of many stranded there, the station was sold out of everything edible, most things drinkable, and actually not only left their prices alone, but also took care of the people who ran out of money. With the seats all the way back and a leather jacket and super thick sheet-sized towel, sleeping was possable though not exactly comfortable. Very early in my Z exposure and on a bet, I cooked a steak and baked a potatoe under the hood of my '76 2+2 on a three hour trip-it was a very good meal and watching the other guy eat crow was even better. Will
  17. Stephen, Would you really have expected a ZL, 432 or ZG to have been at the same price as a 240Z? If the cars were in the same direct price ratio here as in Japan, I know they would have sold a bunch of them too-though at the expense for selling a 240Z in many if not most cases. How many people in 1970-1973 knew there were Gnose kits available? Of those how many paid to get one-certianly if more people had been given the choice, more of the kits(cars) would have been sold even with a higher price than the 240Z. Expectiing to buy a ZL, ZG, or 432 at the same price as a 240Z even in Japan would not have been any more realistic then than it would be now. Look how many sales of other cars were lost when the 240Z hit town, I can't imagine a buying Etype customer or two wouldn't have spent money on a Gnose, head light cover equiped Datsun that was still massively cheeper than an Etype, but with somewhat similar styling. That doesn't even get into performance differences. I know of at least one member who might have an opinion on that... Will
  18. Pretty much comes down to that. Apply the five "W"s and there is the source of more thread and conversation issues than bolts with a 10mm head used by Nissan. Will
  19. Contact one of the Canadian comedy troups-tell them of his escapades, and ask them if they could arrange for him to be picked up and interrogated by a constable for grand theft auto with intentions to transport stolen goods out of the country. I am sure they would love to have the whole thing on film-and I know you would! or you could... Get a friend to leave inappropriate "personal" messages on his voice mail the night beforoe he has a meeting that you will also be attending, and watch his face as he takes the messages...in front of his boss. Pour/put something foul smelling in a ziplock bag and staple it up under his desk, then open the bag. If you put it behind a drawer, he will likely never find it, but continually be bothered by it. Take one wheel off of his desk chair, or hide his desk chair and replace it with a fold up chair(if it squeeks-all the better) Will Glue the writing instruments in his desk drawers to his desk drawers before you go home one night, leave the drawers open so the fumes will dissapate, then be there early to close the drawers before he gets in.
  20. Somebody knows anything can be reproduced! Will
  21. Chris you have just confirmed a looong conversation I had with my long time Nissan mechanic/best friend. Highly abreviated, He said that A factory(there is the "F" word again...) reccomendation/requirement of a specific product was common place in the sixtys and early seventies, and "Nissan slept with an elephant, and took motor oil to bed" He said that as a Nissan mechanic in the late sixties/early seventies he was encouraged to get his dealership to buy the oil at virtually every training interaction, and one day the encouragement just stopped. He thinks he still has a couple of cans of the oil if I want them. Uh-yes! On your conjugal visit with the fairlady, please take and post pictures-I am guilty of the same lust... Will
  22. Oh no, an "S" word to accompany the "F" word... Alan, I was leafing through a '72 fairlady parts manual tonight and I noticed an Elephant haulling trunk from right to left-could this be part of a "series" the first being the one on the oil filler cap? Will
  23. WELCOME TO THE CLUB-ON BOTH ACCOUNTS! Too many parts can be good and bad, too many of the wrong thing can be sold to get a good example of a right part! I am in that boat too! Again, Welcome! Will
  24. Stephen is on it, put a towel in the floor, put on some safety glasses to keep the ethelyne glycol ot of your eyes, don't drink any, and get-r-done! There is a lot more room with the blower out of the way, and for the few bolts and wire connector... WIll
  25. Carl, What would be the sure way to tell series one parts were not moved to a later car-the swiss cheese deck devoid of tool bins, or the lack of other structural developments present in later cars-I ask because of a thread from last year where a new member bought a car with incorrect data plates, incorrect paperwork but most of the proper camoflage! In as much as Her Magesty will have some JDM appointments, my'72 will have some parts from all series, and jdm appointments, and though I would never misrepresent the car, a quick and easy check could certianly avoid confusion when others might not be so forthcoming. Will
