Has anyone seen these hood vents before?
I don't think it is a 77/78 hood the vents openings were reinforced with stamped rise to keep the holes stable. These have the same approximate placement though. Will

New Z owner -- lots of work to come!
Welcome, and thanks for posting the pictures! I am sure as the car gets mobile, you will get the itch for all of it to work well, and when it does, you will find driving it to be a great deal of fun! It was a good idea to introduce your girl friend and the car early-they can get jealous and then it is down hill until the car realizes the girlfriend is no threat! You definitely don't want to take care of the repairs of a jealous Z! Will

Fellow Zcar website bashing
Personally, I appreciate all bashing of any and every website-as long as it ties up those people with enough surplus time to throw away doing it somewhere I don't ever go! I have no patience or time for any of that nonsence. Life is too full of things I want to do to waste time with that! Will

New Club DVD!
Thanks Mike, I didn't know about the exclusion of FAST, and I had been exploring Microfiche scanning-I have a full set(suposably from the beginning of the fische program to the end)-but haven't verified it in terms of qualtiy or time frame. I will hunt a bulb for my reader later in the week and check them out. Enigma also has some Fische! Will

New Club DVD!
John, You just nailed the reason I originally considered starting this project: one car with parts from several years to support-the need several years worth of technical documents. The final monetary cost of the project really isn't an issue, I collected several these manuals long before this project came in to my mind. Granted all of the manuals I have bought in the last two years were bought with this project in mind, but when you really get down to it, the time involved is far more valuable than the money I have spent. New Club DVD!
I didn't list manuals or scans that have been promissed, only those I actually have gotten. Only about 30% of the list has been scanned. I am trying to scan submissions first to get the loaned books back to their owners in a reasonable length of time. I do have some help scanning, 280Master ha taken his tme to scan several manuals for this project and promissed to scan more! Several members have sent me scans to speed things up and keep out the expense and potential loss of shipping manuals through the mail-that is very much appreciated. If you have something you can offer-even of it is listed, please let me know, some of the FSMS have fairly heavy wear, and having a source for an alternate page or two-diagram, or cover, would help the final document. In example the 1978 manual is missing at least one wiring diagram, and several of the pages are in pieces, and the back cover is gone. Though well over 99% of its 300-400 pages are excellent, having replacements for those few that are missing or in bad shape would certianly help! Thanks for your consideration, and your help! Will

Here is a list of what I have in hand so far for the project and who sent it. I have a few other Datsun documents that I listed earlier in the thread, and they will be included as well. We also have a set of Fairlady parts books I am researching the origin of to see if they can be included. Door skin patch
After I measured the part of the door panel to remove six or seven times, I cut out the area to use the patch panel as it was designed-with the flange for attatchment(though I did shorten the flange a liitle). I sandblasted the inside of the patch panel completely clean. Then, I ground the area that would be in the overlap area(of the flange)of both the door and the patch panel. I welded in the panel from the outside with successive stitch welds(added welds until the area was completely sealed), and did several small spot welds to the inside. Then I ground the outside slightly below flush. Next, I taped the botom exterior of the door(the drain area)on both the door and the patch panel and flooded th overlap area with metal ready, rinsed it and allowed it to dry. Then I put down some plastic sheet and retaped the bottom of the door and flooded the area with POR15. I used a brush to work it in and did about five application over that day. By the end the POR had bridged the overlap, and there was on more place for water top get in-the overflow sealed the bottom door seam as well. I had to work on the side seams, and make sure the drains were not blocked-I let the first two application of POR dry normally in the drain holes, then I used a clean pipe cleaner to clear the excess as needed. "give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat all day and drink beer."... untill someone strips his drunk a$$ to his skivies and outlines Mr. passed out with the empties! That guy was lucky, We took pictures of my best friend passed out in a sleeping bag lip to lip with a Hogs head! I'll have to find that picture- I shared it with Carl when he had dropped from the Radar, and it got me a phone call! Will

What would you put in the New Club DVD?
My thought was to include everything with a common or interchangeable drive line. That would Make it '69-1983, and that is a goal I have been collecting toward(not that I have anything like all of the pieces collected)> My original outline for this project is a world-wide yearly collection of: 1) Owners Manuals 2) the rest documents that came with the car 3) Factory Service Manuals 4) Supplemental Manuals 5) Technical Bulletins 6) Parts Manuals 7) Nissan Fast (only Z(X) info '69-'83) In my preliminary study of the size requirements needed for the above, I used '1972 as a representative year, and came up with less than 80mb for all of the printed documentation I could obtain for '72(Model L20A, L24 Series Engines Manual, Datsun 240Z Sports Model S300 Series chassis and Body, Heater Manual, Emissions Control System manual, Technical Bulletins 1972,Warranty and Service Booklet, Hitachi KM-1520ZC, and 240z Model Brochure) I rounded up to 100 MB, and with 15 years to cover, estimated that 1.5 gigabytes would be more than enough to hold all of the USA versions of the literatiure, Doube it for the other family members(assuming good participation in the project world wide), and we are at 3 gigabytes, leaving 1.7 gigabytes on the DVD to hold anything else interesting- all of the extras! Since Mike sells the club CD on ebay ocassionally, I thought including a "Readers Digest Version" of some of our more valuable threads might be a good advertisement for club membership aimed at the non member ebay buyer. I thought the compiled Z history would be good because we have members who have been quoted in a good many publications, and members who have written a good many publications, and we have a collective of world wide Z knowledge with checks and balances from all over the world that allow us a unique perspective that only comes from the synergy of a diverse and active member base with sometimes opposed viewpoints. Parts Catalog RHD 1977
That is exactly why scans of original documents would not hurt the value of original documents, rather it would expose more people to what is available and more than likely increase the value of the manuals, and keep them from being used in the garage...but enable eveyone in the hobby to benefit from the information they contain. What would you put in the New Club DVD?
If it were up to you, what would you put in the new club DVD? Please also put the years you think it should cover! The only criteria to be met is the inclusions ust be Original Datsun/Nissan documents/media, or they must be verifiable as undisputabley public domain. Sorry, I don't think pictures from the Boobs thread will make it in...there are plenty of those type of dvds available elsewhere! Post anything I don't list that you think needs to be there.

New member looking for other 240z owners
Be very carefull-those Oregon Z owners have a serious sense of humor! You may find they have a tendancy to have way too much fun! Beware of letting them see your car, evidently they have an "IN" with Hot Wheels, and might get your car coppied in miniature, and sold at some 'Mart type store! They are a good bunch of guys who the rest of us just misunderstand! Sreiously there are a bunch of Zs in Oregone(some aren't even yellow!), and a great bunch of owners! If you can't have fun with that crowd, you are way too serious! Will
