Nothing special about the 350z?
Comment from William Stokes Customer to Nissan America to Bruce Campbell. If you are going to make a radical departure that is fine and perfectly acceptable, and even potentially laudable, but make one on all fronts of the product. Read you statement, then go look at the 350Z advertising from the first year. The big picture shows the styling and technology departure, but Marketing obviously didn't get the memo, and the guy with the big picture either wasn't looking or didn't care... It comes down writing a coeherent marketing plan. Tell me what you are going to do, do it, then show me that you did it. 1) What Nissan told us they were going to do didn't happen. 2) What they did was not what they told us. 3) What they told us they did was not what happened. In fairness Bruce, you did your part. The project manager of the company either wasn't managing, or he believes customers and his superiors are lazy, morons, or both. Personally I think Carlos told him what was going to happen, and paid him to take a vacation at his desk for the duration of the project.

Results at Canby? Pictures...
Anybody get any pics of James Whitmans(JWSportCars) entried at Canby? James is a good friend of mine, and I would like to see what he entered and know how he did. I know a silver roadster took best of show-no pictures of that? Will

Nothing special about the 350z?
You guys seem to have missed the point of my post. I have almost no contempt for the 350Z, I have tremendous contempt for Nissans marketing of it. The car didn't promise to be a close relative of the 240Z, Nissan promissed it was. I enjoy driving a 350Z, from the drivers seat is it a very nice car, from the curb, it is a different story-to me. I close my eyes walking to it and I am fine. In my opinion the designers took the song "If you wanna be happy for the rest of your life, go get yourself and ugly wife" to heart when designing the 350Z...but that is purely my opinion. Thank goodness the Nismo is a change... Will

I can't help but think of Grace Jones saying to William Shatner: "Not eveyone has their genitals in the same place." His knee indeed! Will HOW'D he set up the picture-make a poster of his arse and put it sideways? Some people will do anything to get on Lenno...

Nothing special about the 350z?
I have fought to stay out of this-deleteing posts after I wrote them because of respect for others. Those of you who love the 350Z, please don't take offence-this is just my opinion and it is no more important than you make it. I can't speak for everyone, but my "sour grapes" come directly from Nissan drawing dramatic parallels between the cars where they exist only in the minds of Nissans Marketing Department. A 350Z hleped to revolutionize Nissans come back, and that was only with a "shared approach" when it came to development costs, major assemblies, and reskinning. Granted the shared technology is impressive, and the results are excellent. but it makes every car with shared parts by definition deravitive-something an editor of Sport Z accused the 240Z of... My "Sour Grapes" are a direct result of Nissan promissing something they were making something highly related to the 240Z in the 350Z, telling us they did it, and from my opinion based on the reality of the 350Z, they flat out lied-I don't like being lied to! If they had said here is a new Z car, and drawn a few lines parallel(there are a few), There would be no issue, but they promised and wrote everything they could to tell the world that the 350Z was strongly-if not directly-related to the 240Z. In thinking about it, It is strangely akin to an old girlfriend telling you her son is yours when their could have been a chance, then finding out she actually knew different all along-I would guess! That is so wrong on so many levels, and so was what they did! Yes, I am a 240Zaholic, and I have a problem...Nissans Marketing Department! Will ps, The Nismo is a big step in the right direction.... Nothing special about the 350z?
Buhahhhahha! http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22520&highlight=alltel see post #10 ...Along those lines, here is what happened to me: A couple of years ago I drove my 240Z up to the Alltel office to discuss my bill, and parked right next to a new 350Z fresh from the Nissan lot! When I walked in, every person in their store commented on my car. Two fine ladies (schaawing!) walked out to my 240 to look at it. The 350Z driver was in the Alltel office scratching his head-he had no clue what my car was(other than old), and to top off his pain, the ladies didn't even notice the factory sticker in his window! I guess it hurt to realize that having ugly on the street and a freak at the track just didn't cut it the eyes of of a pair fine females. He would take me at a light, but then the ladies would have been in my car and he would have been alone... Will

240Z Door latch rod connection from hades
There is a plastic retainer that holds the rod in a hole in the handle assembly, with age the tab that has the hole in it breaks off, and you get exactly the symptoms you discribe. Look on the end of the rod, and in the bottom of the door for a broken piece, and you will probably find your issue. Replace the door handle, and the problem is solved. If you fill out your profile, you can probably hook up with a member local to you for a helping hand! Will

240z secondary fuel tank
That is an evaprative expansion tank, it is there to cause fuel smells inside the car-actually it is there to allow for fuel expansion and the condensation of vapors to keep them in the real gas tank. Will

Quarter Panel question ?
Heat sink as in the part on the outside of an audio amplifier that gets hot when it is working-just the original use of the metal forms used for the pieces-nothing really to do with the car... Will

Daily Driver
Only in a new car, you have to wait for the dealer to take care of it-if its under warranty, or pay the dealer to fix it if it isn't because aftermarket parts are not available. Short of a serious accident or major engine work, I could fix the Z faster than I could get a tuneup at my local Dodge or Volvo Dealers...and after paying $479 for having an alternator replaced, I know it is cheeper to repair...I swear new cars are engineered to support the dealers service department first and foremost. I have put more than 200k on strut insulators, alternators and starters in a 240Z, My S80 has had two alternators, a new set of strut insulators in less than 40K! A Volvo 240 ran like a top for 250K plus! If the technology from 30 years ago worked with that much reliability, these failures have to be planned into the new car parts. Will

Quarter Panel question ?
I don't remember on the cutouts, but looking in the gallery would show... The Aluminum plate was an option sold by several companies in the 70s, it was available in 4(as you have pictured) or six parts(having another piece finishing out the rocker coverage on bith sides). It was available in black or polished, and ran about $30 a set(for the four piece set and $30 for the aditional 2 pieces-as I recall) both sets were also available for the 2+2. I believe it was actually a heatsink extrusion cut to fit, and originally used to hide rust and/or prevent stone chips. Will

Add your one liners.
How do you know it's Mothers Day in Tasmania-all the cars are at one house! Get your mind out of the gutter! Grab mine while you're there, please. If a lawyer and an IRS agent were both drowning, and you could only save one of them, would you go to lunch or read the paper? Age and knowledge don't always come together. Sometimes you just get the age... Much can be achieved with a smile. Admittedly, much more can be achieved with a smile and a gun. Carpenter's rule: cut to fit. Beat into place. Carpenter's rule 2: If it doesn't fit, get a bigger hammer. Ever stop to think, and forget to start again? My push! Will

Homemade speaker box for 6x9s
There is a wee bit more math to it if you want to tune your boxes to your speakers, here are some sites to help if you have a decent poop sheet on your speakers(but then if you did, it would suggest a range of correct volumes, and have given directions...)... overview http://www.kbapps.com/construction.html A better overview http://www.homerecordingconnection.com/news.php?action=view_story&id=32 Basic math http://www.bcae1.com/spboxnew2.htm There are a big old bunch of websites on this, but essentially they all boil down to three types Ported, Completely sealed, and hybrid. The box is open, the box is closed, the box is closed but effectively open. If you had room in the car you could add horn loading, but that is quite a challenge in a Z. Will

Interior Restoration Questions
1) Yes-or glue in some uderpad, and velcro the carpet in place. 2) Yes, I have made them in fiberglass, and veneered plywood, using cutouts from the original console to keep the switch placement. 3) Replace your straps and have the original brackets chromed or powder coated before stitching the new straps to them. 4) Adding speakers usually helps, but using a plan of attack to keep/aid/enhance stereo imaging would probably make your ears happier than just adding rear speakers, it depends on what you add and how much homework you do to determine what to add where. trivia
Here is a hint...the term 350Z was first used(AFAIHF) by an highly respected AeroSpace subcontractor in 1973. One of the owners of the firm evidently was among the first to install a Chevy 350 into a 240Z. He then offered the required parts as a complete kit that was sold for around $1340 and included EVERYTHING needed except the block and labor. His kits were sold nation wide much like JTR, but in a pre internet era. Will

Rating the factory 240Z fuel vent hoses
Thaf is the first time I have heard anything like that, I have several friends(who own an Industrial Repair shop) that race and they have the stuf under their own hoods that hasn't been changed in ten years or more with no issues-they are the guys that turned me on to it...granted there are probably 30 types of tygon. This is the one I was reccomending: http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=USPlastic&category%5Fname=7510&product%5Fid=7945 Will

Rating the factory 240Z fuel vent hoses
Tygon is excellent stuff, I believe using it would give a permanent repair. It is what I will be using for low pressure fuel lines. Will
