I'm glad you've found a "good" side to your ordeal with datsun parts llc. You're a glass is half full kinda guy, great quality to have. So the compression rings were on the bottom? And the oil rings were cut to fit? If so, that has to be the absolute worst I've ever heard. Were the oil rings top and bottom rails installed? I won't even ask about staggered gaps. You're a much better man than me!
  2. I think I'd tap it to the next size.
  3. That's funny! Paint stripper smells good too.
  4. You said it best, "onions"! I learned pretty quick, get it up off the floor with jack stands or ramps. They don't make a pain pill strong enough for bending over these cars for any amount of time.
  5. I thought it was the South Pole?
  6. What about the hole in the top of the nozzle? It seems like Steve from the dvd mentions someway to compensate if that hole is off centered. Maybe the drill thing I was thinking of had something to do with that? I'm not sure though, it's been awhile since I've watched it. I think that maybe my mistake Mark, I was thinking there was a way to keep them from binding in the nozzle. Sorry for any bad advice.
  7. Chuck the needle in a drill and slowly work it with emory cloth.
  8. They're not really o-rings. Just rubber shaped like zeroes. You'll get the big one for the body and smaller one for the tip. FWIW Plus a solid clamp, fj707t. Those have a different spray nozzle that I think is better. No small pin hole like the others. My $.02 cents only.
  9. I'm guessing that face and moustache were covered with fur.

Learned something new for the day. Swirl Pot. I have seen people swirling around from pot though. Thanks Vipergts!

Yes, the EFI tanks have "baffle" or "swirl" (I've never heard that term ) type pot to keep fuel around.
  12. I first thought y'all were talking about D*** Clark on American Bandstand.
  13. Here you go,
  14. When I went to Nissan to get replacements the parts guy said they quit making the round phillips head, superseded the newer part number. That's how I ended up with hex heads.
  15. You need to loosen the screws on the dome, get the damper moving freely then tighten them down. That little rubber blob that supposedly lines them up isn't even on mine. Loosen the screws a little. The choke is on when the handle is pulled back towards the rear of the car. When the choke is on the nozzles drop down about an inch.
  16. You should see where they were connected previously, it makes a little kink in the cable where the screw tightens down.
  17. Definitely replace the screws with the newer hex head type. I got mine at my Nissan dealership, you'll see the part number in this thread. S30Driver found some allen head type too, maybe Fastenal would have those?
  18. I got all mine from O'Reillys auto parts. It's one hell of a job, there's information about plugging off the evap tank all together. You'll have to search google and make your own decision. I chose to keep mine but I enjoy working on my Zs and driving my Camry.
  19. The "how to modify your z" book by Frank honsowetz has a lot of that type info. Lot of charts with measurements that will help. $20 from amazon.com Datsungarage.com or something like that is good too. Just about everything imaginable has been put online already just ask.
  20. That is good one. Each layer makes me cry a little more.
  21. I've blamed it on the seasons changing down here but I've been laid up since Saturday. Makes me mad too, we're having great weather. Hopefully it won't last too much longer.
  22. Good looking valve cover.
  23. You'd could also try what Jeff said and run rubber hoses straight to the carbs instead of the oe fuel rail. Cost maybe $10 for the low pressure fuel hose. I'd definitely get that problem solved before painting your car. Priority planning
  24. I honestly don't see how vapor lock would make your plugs black. Seems to me right the opposite. too much fuel. 5 to 9 psi is too much for SUs. You can buy an adjustable fpr at any parts store. The knob style is what they'll have, 0-10 psi. My Dad bought a Puralator pump and it came with the fpr, $20, for his lawnmower.
  25. You're a fine man! Must be a Dad. I'm not if you haven't noticed. My obituary would've read S.A.D.S when I was about 14 or 15. I have great respect for my Dad, I put that poor man through hell. We're best buddies now. 8^)
