G'Day Lachlan, Checked my book and while there are some good pics showing the nice, flowing lines of the 2000GT, they don't show the "similar flaps" you refer to. However, the compartments behind the front wheels are most evident. No explanation though, so we're still a pair of mushrooms mate. Wouldn't you like to have one ????? Shame there were only 337 produced. Rick.

Point of interest
Something to add to your useless information file. In the centre of the steering wheel is a circle enclosing the word "Datsun". At the other end of the dash is an oblong plate which reads, (in my Zed), Datsun 260Z. These items should be nice and shiny so they stand out. If they don't on your car, here's what I did. In a store where hand crafts are sold, you can pick up a kit containing a chrome foil and glue pen. Go over the wording very carefully with the glue pen, wait until it's tacky, apply the foil and hey presto, job done. Rick.

Hey there Alfapup, Do you mean the Citroen ID 19, DS19, DS20, DS21, or DS23 ???????? By the way Vicki, I've checked my books and come up empty handed. So, unless one of our club "Brains" comes up with something, it looks like, as always, the "Z" stands alone. Rick.

P-plate restrictions discussed
As I said before, people can be killed at 60kph so a speed limiter won't help. What would you limit the speed to ??? 80kph ?? that seems like a nice, safe speed for a newby. He/she can then get out onto the open highway and cause a lot of frustrated drivers to take unnecessesary risks when overtaking. How many among us have the knowledge themselves or know someone who could disconnect the speed limiter ?? It would be done. However, it would be worth a try. It just MIGHT save a life. No matter what regulations and laws are put in place; no matter what restrictions are placed on cars and the drivers; no matter how much training is undertaken, young drivers will continue to kill and maim themselves, their passengers and people in other cars. Whether by peer pressure, lack of skill, lack of training, showing off, arrogance, bravado and just plain stupidity, they WILL find a way. Rick.

trivia
Hey there Vicki, Looking through my books I came up with; How about MG A, MG B, MG C, "E' Type Jag, "S" Type Jag, Austin had the 7, 8 and 10, Leyland had the P76 and Chrysler had the S1 and S2 Valiant. Of course you'd have to be talking about the particular make of car to recognise the terminology. Here in the land down under, if you were to mention a; FX, FJ, FC, FE, EK, EJ, EH, HD, HR, HK, HQ, everyone would know that you were talking about our locally made Holdens. Likewise, LC, LJ, LH, LX, are Torana's. HK, HT, HG, HQ, HJ, and HX are our early Monaro "Muscle" cars. All the above do not meet your criteria but it's the best I can find so far. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable will do better. Just as a point of interest, if you do a search on the web for "Z Car Clubs", you are likely to find sites dedicated to Zephyr (Ford), and Zodiac. Rick. :devious: :devious: :devious:

Well, now, MickieB, If I have to stand corrected then I will do so as I admit that my knowledge and experience of overseas service is rather out of date however, you won't find a front line Viet Nam Veteran who was younger than nineteen when he went over there. I was 20. As for the German Autobahn, BOY, when they have a prang, they PRANG !!!!!! And at those excessive speeds how much of a chance do the car's ocupants have ???? So far on this thread there have been a lot of very good suggestions made on how to improve drivers' skills. One suggestion was to limit the power to weight ratio of a car driven by a newby. Reasonable, but unlikely to curb the death toll. I personally know of instances where fatal accidents have occurred at 60kph. Big trees and brick walls don't have much give in them. Also, bear in mind that any changes in licensing and/or driving regulations have to be acceptable to the driving public in general. To do otherwise would be political suicide and no politician is likely to put his head on the political chopping block. So, should P platers have to suffer stricter restrictions ?????????????? If by doing so, one life is saved, a very definite YES. Rick. :ogre: :ogre: :ogre:

P-plate restrictions discussed
Hey, hey, hey there Justin, This is a little reminiscent of a conversation we had some months ago isn't it ?? In my first post on this this thread I stated that there is a difference between being taught to drive and TRAINED to drive. When I was TRAINED to drive in the Army, the course ran for six weeks FULL TIME. That was just the BASIC drivers course, qualifying to drive a 4WD Land Rover and a 4WD 2 1/2 Ton Truck. Any subsequent license code required a further course of instruction. (My Army license was chocker with license codes, couldn't fit another one in). Training behind the wheel entailed hours and hours experiencing all possible driving conditions in heavy and light traffic, on the open highway and cross country. Now, I'm not suggesting that all potential drivers should be required to attend a six weeks course of instruction BUT, they certainly need to be TRAINED, not merely taught. As you said. a driver's license is a privelige, not a right. It is also a responsibility and an obligation. Rick. :ogre: :ogre: :ogre:

O.K., here's one that'll put the cat among the pidgeons. I firmly believe that the minimum age for a person to obtain a driver's license shoud be RAISED to at LEAST eighteen. The Government apparently believes that an eighteen year old is mature enough to inteligently choose which political party to vote for so why should it be any different to qualify to hold a driver's license ?. To take that thought a little further, a soldier can't be sent overseas to fight for our country until he is nineteen so why not raise BOTH the licensing and voting age to nineteen ????? High school car parks contain cars driven by students who, IMO, are FAR to young to be responsible and mature enough to be in control of such a potentialy deadly weapon. The younger the driver the more susceptable they are to peer pressure and more likely to "show off" their limited driving skills. It's O.K. to say that our youth have to first make mistakes before they can learn from those mistakes BUT mistakes made when driving in an irresponsible manner all too often turn out to be deadly mistakes. All too often it's some innocent person/s in another car that pays the piper. Unfortunately, not all young drivers exhibit the maturity and plain common sense to attend a defensive driving course as s130 and Alfadog did. Such courses should be mandatory upon obtaining a driver's license, regardless of age. O.K. you lot, I'm wearing my flack jacket and steel helmet so, GO YOUR HARDEST !!!!!! Rick. :ogre: :ogre: :ogre:

Well, now, MickieB, It seems that you and I are the only voters so far. I voted "yes". Having attended many accident scenes and been sickened by the effects on the human body I couldn't vote otherwise. All too often it's young people who are killed/maimed/injured. For the most part I feel it's through lack of training and experience and, in a lot of instances, bravado and "showing off". I lost count of the number of people I trained to drive whilst in the Army, (Note that I said trained, not taught. There's a big difference) and, generally, the younger the trainee, the easier they were to train. However, having said that, the younger trainees tended to be less attentive and responsible in their obligations as a license holder. You are upset over the possibility of a curfew. I can understand that and sympathise with you. Perhaps allowances will be made for you those in similar situations. Hopefully, in your case, I hope so. Rick.

Yair Carl, Maybe I over reacted a bit but I make no apologies. Had he started the thread "honestly", asking advice/comments/suggestions the replies would have been far, far friendlier. It was the dare that did it. The worst of the matter is that it caused disharmony on this site and, as I was an offender, for THAT I humbly apologise. Rick.

Mistaken identity
I told this story some time back so here's a short version. When a young bloke asked me, "What is it"? I told him it was a prototype that never made it into production as a smaller version of the E Type Jag. Rick. :devious: :devious: :devious:

My friend, anyone who truly loves the Zed car, be it a 240, 260 or 280, would never, ever take a gas axe to a classic in such pristine condition. Such cars are as rare as hen's teeth down here, due to so many falling victim to the customiser, neglect, rust and accidents. To customise a totally original, matching numbers car is nothing short of criminal. Please, at least consider selling the car to someone who appreciates a true classic and will keep it for people to admire in the future. Rick.

YAIR, ------O.K. Lachlan,-----Have a at my expense. Perhaps it is some form of poetic justice, what with my "Septic Tank" remarks etc. Fancy mistaking a fair dinkum, true blue, straight as a die, dyed in the wool Australian like me for a Yank !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Oh, well,----I suppose there is one consolation. At least I was'nt listed as a Kiwi. :nervous: :nervous: Rick. :devious: :devious: :devious:

Too bad Craig, I may be heavily biased but I didn't think anything could even come close to your Zed. Yair Carl, I sometimes get a bit impatient and forget we're ahead of you lot by half a day or so. Still, while second place is not as good as first, it's better than third. Congratulations Craig and Cindy. Rick.

Bugger that mate, Carl's dead right. You were bloody lucky !!!!! I reckon you should move your friends somewhere REAL safe. AUSTRALIA. Just remember to bring your Zed. Rick. :devious: :devious:

door ding strips
When "Precious" first came into my tender, loving care, she sported polished stainless steel strips that ran from the rear edge of the door, along the body below the quarter glass but on top of the ridge where it curves down towards the wheel well, all the way to the rear of the body, then curved around the back, ending at the hatch. They were secured by a type of spring clip that was pushed through holes in the body. Unfortunately, they were in pretty bad shape so I chucked them away and filled the holes. I've since been tempted to replace them but to continue on to the edge of the headlights. Rick.

Carl and Steve, The frame rails under "Precious" end about two feet from the end of the floor pan. Should I and with uncontrolled joy ??????????? Does this mean that "Precious" is even MORE precious ?????? Thanks for your help Mom. I'm not sure if any of the photos I've posted of "Precious" in the Gallery are suitable or not. Rick.
