  1. I have no problems but the screen size. The zoom & scrolling features come in handy that way. thx

It's either the speeding or the accelerating that does that. :lick:

I didn't know there was an auto stop mechanism under the cowl. Where would that be? I've had the entire wiper system out, and basically all there is under the cowl is the motor and the linkage arms. From discussions here & on HybridZ, the auto-stop switch is inside the wiper drive motor. hornz- You might first try cleaning all the connectors; on the wiper control amplifier, and the motor connector under the hood. thx
  4. I figured out that I can take the 280Z Factory Service Manual (FSM) with me when I travel with the Z. I have a Palm Tungsten E with a 2 Gb SD card for memory expansion, and even with ALL the data, music & apps moved to it, I can still fit the entire FSM on there too. Using the free PDF reader, I'll be ready to fix things if there's a problem. That, and I use the Palm for GPS navigation too. :classic: Maps go on another 2Gb card. You can do that with any laptop, and have it hanging from your hip... I just wish I could take time-lapse pictures with the Palm. thx
  5. Since I go a number of local shows, I was asking for suggestions for what the secular people might like. Maybe I can find a magazine with a Z on the cover. Hot girls? That sounds like the Tweeks catalog.
  6. 52 shows, 52 weeks in a year...
  7. I remember somebody saying that last summer at the regionals.

One confusing thing that he muffler guy told me was that you can't have the exhaust tips sticking out from under the bumper, because in a collision, the muffler will get crunched ? One reason why I'd like to replace my muffler is because the fart can does not stick out past the bumper and the bumper is turning black with soot. BTW- I don't use a header. thx
  9. When you take your Z to a car show, what would be some good literature to display? I have the owner's manual, that stays in the glovebox, and I have several sections of the FSM (printed from the CD in B&W and bound.) What about a repair manual, such as Haynes? Or a parts catalog, like MSA or BD? Would that be gauche? I think a magazine that features your year and/or model Z would be nice. I suppose you could get a vintage magazine that features a Datsun 240, 260, or 280Z in it. thx
  10. I wouldn't really call it a cartoon; it makes me think of Peanuts or Ziggy. It's an animated TV series for sure. See here. In Japanese, his name is Go Mifune which should explain the occurances of the "G" and "M" you see on his car and clothing.DYK- the engine in the Mach 5 could spin 24,000 RPM and had 5,000 horsepower? There were 52 episodes. Coincidence?

the guy is probably lazy or afraid. The first thing he tried to do is to convince me I should just put on the stock muffler. then he said that nothing but a stock muffler will even fit in a vertical orientation. Even a turbo-style! I know Hrududo has a Flowmster in the flat-ways, but the muffler guy just keeps saying that it won't fit. And then today I noticed the mufler on a newer Grand Prix... :cheeky:

Well, there won't be any updates on this idea.... the muffler guy says there aint no way you can put two glasspacks in there ( then a big story about how the spare tyre bay is in the way, how the metal goes up & down & a bunch of hand gestures...) The ricer place next door had a polished thing with two tips for $150. It looks like I'll be ordering a Monza deal from BD...(engaging search function...) thx

I think I can fit a couple 24 inchers in there. It already has a resonator, so I'm confident that it will be quiet enough to live with. The muffler that's on there is a freebie fart can, which isn't much different than a glasspack (a stright-through design), except for the volume, and the megaphone outlet. Maybe I should take my 3 and 4 inch hole saws in case the valence needs cutting? I'm going to the muffler shop first thing tomorrow (8am Saturday) and hopefully the guy can put together something that will at least look decent. I mentioned the Flowmaster 40 series to the guy, but I would have to buy that on my own from somewhere. thx
  14. They left of the Talbot sideview mirrors. It would be interesting to see if they have the lift-jacks, sawblades, belted grip-tyres, the bullet-proof shield & submarining stuff.

The color should probably be similar to that of the rear finisher panel...

I already use a glasspack as a resonator, and since I have an exhaust manifold, there's only 1 pipe to the back. The only questions I can think of is what length of glasspack to use, to have the end of the glasspack barely showing past the sheetmetal, and what to use for the tips. I think my current can is 28 inches to the front edge of the bumper. What do you think of painting the cans with black BBQ grill paint? It works on mower mufflers & the boat mufflers & pipes. You will also need to be careful how the two cans are strapped (attached) together. I'm really tired of seeing & hearing the fart can that's on there ( it was free. ) thx

I like the period look of the Jag dual muffler system, but not at that price, and the tube diameter is too big. Instead, what would the feasibility & practicality be to use two glasspacks with a sort of Y-pipe as the mufflers? The only limiting factor I can think of is the length of the glasspacks, but my exhaust has about 28 inches for the can, and another 8 or 10 inches for the tailpipes. I think a connecting strap would be needed to attach a hangar hook, and just clamp the whole mess on to see how it sounds and if the engine likes it. If so, remove, blast clean & coat with something. opinions? thx
  18. Thanks, I"ll look into it sometime. higher repair priorities present themselves for now.
  19. I had a heater guy check out the vacuum hoses, and he was able to replace the leaky one in an hour, there was also a short in the wiring (PO spliced into the power wires) and I had to replace the 6blade connectorof the fan switch. After disassemnbling the fan switch & reassermbling, the vac tubes & connector, I get all the functions, 3 or 4 times the air from the vents & defrostor, but still get only outside air from the bi-level setting ( which sounds about right.) thx

Mars- I PM'd you, did you get it? thx
  21. Just keep an eye on the Speedo, mate. They're enforcing the speeds lately. There's more b&Ws out there too now.
  22. Will,ls The emergency kit I have in my car only weighs about 2 Lbs. You might be mistaking of somebody else's version for mine. Remember, I did a LOT of backpacking in Scouting, so I was very good at only taking esentials. My backcountry emergency kit fits in a 35mm film can! thx

This one should be a club POLL (Will )
  24. You can start with all the usual stuff: Proper tire pressure Good spark, plugs & properly working ignition system for L28e: make sure the sensors are good, & good connections Correct coolant mix& condition Overall car conition (engine & driveline) Most importantly: DRIVE EFFICIENTLY! . Each car probably has one area that needs more attention than another, of course.

I was out scoping for a suitable net all last weekend, and all I could find at the autoparts stores were the truckbed nets/covers, or bulkhead netthings for cars. While looking athe Wal-Mart, I happened in a camping hammock! :cheeky: After unrolling it and tying it to the bedposts, I discovered that the netting wasn't tight enough for car luggage, and that you couldn't cut up the net to the size required either. :hurt: You might be better off getting a book from the library, and learning to mae your own nets, or having your Grandma knit you one using giant knitting needles. Maybe there's a net somewhere that's the right size.
