  1. I think another problem with a Saturday Z car show is that people want a 1/2 day to arrive, unwind, feast & mingle, 1/2 to a full day for primping, then two or three days for track events, sightseeing & such, then a day for the banquet, packup & go. That's a lot to fit into a weekend, unless you live an hour away.
  2. I want Art for President in 2008... :lick:
  3. I think I will mention your idea of simultaneous car shows at the next planning meeting. I don't think any local clubs will go for a Tuesday car show, but maybe just a cruise-in, although the car show will be over by 4 or 5. Just not ricers..
  4. In response to the suggestrion that the show be on a Saturday... Would you be willing to put TWO weeks toward the event? A saturday show means people need to leave home probably on a Wednesday, Be at the Hotel for Friday night & Saturday show, then go to some track events Sunday, Monday & Tuesday, Banquet on Wednesday, then leave for home Wednesday night or Thursday, and be home Friday night or Saturday. That means you need 1 1/2 to 2 weeks for the event, a babysitter ( or Grandma) for that time, not to mention lost work time, lodging expenses and using up all that vacation time. thxZ
  5. Local radio stations don't seem to want to do anything more than a quickie-drive-by visit without getting a significant amount of $$$. If you can figure out how to lure them in, please speak up:laugh: Getting a PSA announced on local radio & TV stations is easily done, and is on the list. The best ( ant cost-free) way to get the word out is by getting other car clubs to mention your even or pass out flyers at other car events. MO, there's nothing "entertaining" enough about a Z convention to have a radio station be there the whole week; or even just certain parts. There is a down-side to getting "too much" word out. It increases the risk of attracting people to the show that don't belong around any expensive or valuable cars, because these kinds of people probably have theft or vandalism in mind. (I've seen this happen.) It would probably be best to use other car club channels to get the word out. These are probably the best people to have at your car show. Also, the car show is in a nice part of twown, where it would attract people of a more appreciative nature, or those who can just pay the entry fee. thxZ
  6. A big issue for making people happy with things outside of the hotel and carshow parking lot would be getting people to drive their Zs to the different places for tours & sightseeing. Would you really want to drive your show-car around in a strange city? Fortunately, the Hotel and show site are out in the suburbs on the edge of the city ( NOT the boonies), so you won't have to be driving into or through the city much, if at all. Downtown Cleveland is only about 12 miles from the hotel & show site, and unless you get lost and end up in the flats (where the steel mills are) the city is quite modern, roads are good, and most any place is close-by. And except for things like the poker run, there will probably be a local person available as a guide so you don't have to get lost. thxZ
  7. Well, we have a veteran crew to run the 2008 show, so except for the larger number of entrants, things should go well. Keep on mind that some things like seeing previous winners depend on participant cooperation. A successful show will really depend on the preparation & cooperation of all the participants. thxZ
  8. I think you will be pleasantly surprised, gnosez.
  9. I think you will be very happy about the venue and attractions for the 2008 Convention in Cleveland, Ohio. You be seeing everything on the list except maybe #3 & 6 (maybe.) There are several drives planned. A Poker Run, two track days, sightseeing tours to nearby cities, and more. And we made sure that there will be lots of access to people from the ordinary community. We have some media coverage, judging seminars, and some visists by special guests planned.
  10. I did a quick search for a replacement rear-window defroster grid, and I found a place that has ones that you can trim to size! You can buy the entire kit: http://www.frostfighter.com/prt2600.htm Or you can get just the window grid: http://www.frostfighter.com/prt26STK.htm So now you can just scrape off the oem one (if you want to) and put on a new one, About 50 buxZ for the kit, which includes a switch & relay. About 30 buxZ for just the grid thxZ

An old friend of mine (1.3 miles away- walking distance) let me store my beastie in his 4-car garage way out back of his property, as long as I clean the place up before moving in. I don't think he's ever been in there. There was an office in the back where I found an old Phillips HIFI! Radio, phonograph & cassette. I'll open that up sometime and vacuum the insides, but it works anyway. Old china teacups in the loft upstairs... Oh- A kerosene torpedo heater 1/2- full even. Oh- a set of 194 lightbulbs for the econobox from sis. thxZ
  12. Oh, OK. DeOxit 100 is theformula containing 100% only the deoxidant, and DeOxit 5 is a formula wth 5% of the deoxidant and the rest is a protective film and a lubricant. thxZ
  13. What's wrong with DeOxit? It's specifically designed to remove oxidation from electrical connectors, and I have seen it do so. It's the first thing I use to clean connections.
  14. I'll be taking my drive unit apart soon, so I'll keep some notes on what I find. What is involved in getting the Honda motor off the car? You canprobably get at it just by lifting the bonnet, right? thxZ
  15. Do you think this would work on a 280Z? I have mine out right now.

The movie trailer is OUT!!! http://speedracerthemovie.warnerbros.com/cmp/main.html They're using real people as actors, but the racing seems to look like anime. I didn't see any of the naive stuff you might remember from the TV series. Overall, I think this movie would satisfy most 'car people.' Warning: the size of the trailers are in the tens of Megabytes; the Quicktime 480 trailer is 26 Mb, and the 1080 trailer is over 120 Mb! BEWARE. At least now that the movie is coming. I think that even I would go to see this one. thxZ
  17. I'm sure that a mold could easily be made from an existing part that could be borrowed, and parts could be made with vacuum-forming. The tricky part would be the hook things on the back, that hook onto the door pull, but I'm sure you could duplicate that too, glue it together, and somehow chrome them, or a layer of shiny aluminum, like I suggested. Silver foil might work, if you can get some. thxZ
  18. I've never seen a chrome paint that actually mimics chrome. I think the closest you might come to chrome is to laminate the part with aluminum foil, shiny-side up.
  19. I need a pair of those too. I usually cjek eBay, and I've only seen one or two, ever. What if you peeled the chrome off and put something else on instead, like black paint or a rubber dip? Can you get a silver rubber dip? thxZ

I don't suppose you can put a snow plow on your Z.... Or maybe just a big, double-reinforced chin spoiler? :nervous:

I don't think the big green beastie will want to get out of its climate-controlled slumber, and besides, I just heard on the CB that there's a big pile-up on I-75 south of Cincinatti, OH, due to the snowstorm, let alone getting out of the 200-foot driveway! And I just got a note from my gf in Tampa, that's it's a frosty 27F there this morning... At least my Escort HAS heat. :surprised thxZ Pictures of the snowstorm, Saturdayafternoon. \/ \/ \/

I supose this is the part where you remind me I have the next 4 weeks off, and need to do something in the meantime, besides sort wires in the Z...:lick: BTW- Anything happening with the R/c car bodies? PM me

7277- Thanks for the pics. I couldn't tell very well, but it looks like the wiring going to the hazard switch & defog just go go under the fan somehow? Mine were covered by the rug ( an ugly bulge and not good for connectors) so I thought I could run them under the heater somehow. thxZ
  25. Polished steel and Polished stainless look similar. I hope he coated them if they're steel.
