Bonk cam and Samuru head

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

My restoration finished and with it my refreshed L28 picked up a Steve Bonk cam and a full head port and polish with intake matching by Reg Samuru.

The cam has a great tone and idle and winds right up fast. I definitely notice more grunt mid range (where I drive) and overall am very pleased with it.

The head was fully ported - and I do mean ported. Intake and exhaust had a lot of metal taken out an my intake was port matched, including locator pins on the head.

Overall it is flowing more air, as measured by the increases in jet sizes to maintain nice AFRs (13.5 ish).

There are lots of options out there but do consider reaching out to Steve in Chicagoland and Reg in Edmonton, AB, Canada. 20210929_155617.jpg

Who are these people?  I found a Facebook page but Facebook won't let me look at it unless I sign in.

Both are on Facebook and home based Datsun guys. All my dealings were via FB, FB Messenger, and texts. Who needs a website anymore?

Steve Bonk is on the Church of L Series facebook page a lot. I have his camshaft in my L28, well I had a set... It failed due to a casting flaw I think. He was going to take care of welding it and having it reground but the shop he uses is backed up and I've been without my Z waiting on the camshaft for going on two months now.

PXL_20210617_145011433.jpgWell, I only had 400 miles on that camshaft so the mechanic is not going to charge me for the reinstallation and Bonk is not going to charge him (as far as I know) so I'm going to wait for now on purchasing a substitute.  This driving season is shot since it's almost time to put the car away for the winter. Come spring, if I don't have the camshaft back, I'm likely going to find another and absorb the loss.

Thanks.  I wonder if these guys know that by using only Facebook they are limiting their visibility to potential customers.  I don't know if Facebook knows that I have an account because of my email address and are trying to force me to sign in, or if those pages are closed to everybody without a Facebook account.  Either way, I could not look at the page without being a signed-in Facebook member.

This isn't a comment meant to imply anything about the Facebook users out there.  It's popular.  Just pointing out the fact that the way it's set up forces users to join and sign in if they want to see Steve Bonk or the other guy's products.  They might not realize that.

Pretty fascinating how much control Facebook has, without people realizing it.

 Who needs a website anymore?

Me.

I'm not on Faceplant.

The place is, and almost always has been, a very toxic environment. Too much drama. And it appears Zuckerberg and company are on the hot seat again. Won't be long and the house of Faceplant will crumble.

Or not.

When you wield the kind of monetary clout that Zuckerberg does, not much can stand in your way.

A web presence rocks. Access via a laptop or even better, a desktop with a 27" monitor. My old eyes can't abide those little phone screens. Even with glasses.
