Does anyone have a diagram with measurements or can someone take a photo of theres with measurements from right side of hatch and bottom of hatch so i will have a good est. of where to put holes? much appreciated. if  matters is 1971 240z series 2

not sure, possibly. i went and looked at the hatch a minute ago (its all at my painters). even looking from the inside i cant see or feel where the holes were originally. So, i will most likely need to re-drill them.

Wally,

We have a '71 series 2 car coming in. It is also missing the hatch emblems. I can take pictures and messurements for you when it arrives. Will this car give you what you need? Is series 1 and series 2 different?

It may have had a spoiler sometime in it's life. Mine does and the holes are filled in, emblems are mounted on the spoiler.

I'm pretty sure they are the same for series 1 and 2, here are measurements from my 1970. The datum for measurement is the lower right corner of hatch. The bottom edge of the hatch is curved so instead of the that edge I drew a line at right angle to the right edge for the vertical dimensions. I hope that makes sense.

Hello everyone. I have almost the same problem with my ´72 240Z, but in my case it´s regarding the side fender DATSUN emblems.  they filled the holes when they painted the car years ago and recently I bought a pair of new emblems. The paint itself is in good condition so I´d prefer not to have to sand the area to locate those little holes. I hope somebody can help me. Thank you in advance.

Have you tried to look behind the fender to see any spots where the holes were? I know most paint shops pull the part off and paint all sides so maybe nothing there.

Maybe CanTechZ will see this and have something?

Just heading off to work but here are a few pictures. I can take some measurements tomorrow morning. Strangely there are four holes but only three pins on the emblems. Same but opposite on the right hand side. And of course the three pins are not in a perfectly straight line. The pin behind the "D" is slightly lower.

Here is a snippet from the picture @SpeedRoo posted in another thread of his RH OEM fender, it has same four hole pattern. My fenders are also OEM replacements that I purchased in the early eighties from my local Datsun dealer for my first restoration.

FWIW, here are the fender emblem hole measurements from my one owner, no accidents, 1971 240Z.

I used a precision micrometer and measured from the edge of each fender at the door seam gap to the center of the closest mounting hole.  I then measured from the peak of the ridge below the mounting holes to the center of each of the holes.  Measuring from the ridge peak is inexact as the peak is rounded, but I tried to measure from what I felt to be the highest point of the curve.

Driver's Fender:

3.87 inches from fender edge to mounting hole center

Mounting hole closest to fender edge 2.48 inches above peak of fender ridge

Mounting hole farthest from fender edge 2.34 inches above peak of fender ridge

Passenger's Fender:

4.25 inches from fender edge to mounting hole center

Mounting hole closest to fender edge 2.26 inches above peak of fender ridge

Mounting hole farthest from fender edge 2.43 inches above peak of fender ridge

The center peg on each emblem can be marked after locating each end pin hole on the emblem.

My car may differ from your car, but consider this as a starting point for your search.

Have fun!

Dennis

Thank you!

My pleasure.  If you're going to drill new holes, I suggest running a strip of wide masking tape across the hole area and then measuring and marking the drill points on the tape.  Make sure all is level and you're good to go.  Or, as "siteunseen" mentioned, check the backside of each fender.
