”Restored original wheels”?

Those “rally wheels” in the ad wasent original on the 432z.

I agreed .  Also they are so clean and beautiful, I may think they could be reproduction wheels which currently bacame available in Japan .

Today I visited a vendor of a reproduction wheel . They are selling Z432 style wheel and rally style wheel .Both are aluminum. The manufacturer is located in China , not Japan .

I noticed the Z432 style wheel has a different off set , more positive off set than the original. So looked different to my eyes .

Hi ! A rotten Z432 is going up for an auction,

http://bhauction.jp/pdf/catalog/040_1972_NISSAN_FAIRLADY_Z_432_BASE_VEHICLE_FOR_RESTORATION.pdf

This car had been on a Yahoo Japan auction several times , several years ago.

This time a S20 engine which seems it was fitted to a lot earlier car came with the car. The transmission in the picture has a Skyline GTR shift lever arm .

This will be a chance for everyone to own a  Z432 the cheapest way at the moment.

Mmm, that's around 45.000 USD they want for it. And seeing the 432 in the first post in this topic has gone for 170k, i'd doubt if you would make any profit restoring this car and selling it..

It's a reasonable price if you keep it for yourself as a long term investement, but for making profit on it, i'd say no.

Making a profit , how about if someone were able to get a good donor Fairlady Z (June 1972 model is the best for this project)   under 30000 USD , it would make a little profit. But it has to be well concerned that  selling a Z432 tribute car or , selling a restored PS30- 00521 before starting a work .

A S20 Engine alone costs 45000 USD nowadays, probably bidders are aware of it , so the winning bid will be 45000 USD  or higher .

Could be a beautiful car, but will need lots of work. I think it would be harder to restore in a left hand drive market than a right hand drive market. I suspect there will be lots of little 432 specific parts that will be needed. Probably easier to restore it in japan than anywhere.

Hi Kats,

What did you think/the seller says about the rally and Z432 replica/style wheels, in terms of quality/market...? I think the seller say they are for race only, but I think this is more about legality for use on Japanese roads (testing?) than being "poorly" made?

I know you have said in a previous post, real Kobe Seiko z432 wheels (a set) are selling for up to 1,000,000yen, so is it not reasonable to think replica of both are going to be made when the price is what it is, and the possible demand? The Rally Kobe Seiko wheels, original, again, are a high price if you can find them.

Regards

Ian

Hi Kats,

Yeah I think it's best to restore it, then changing the body, then it would be more of a replica. Then again what is " original "  in somebody's eyes ? There's a Mustang restorer in the village here, and they restored a 68 Shelby, only thing that was there of the body was the VIN plate, and like maybe 15% of the car, the rest is all new sheet metal ?!

Patcon , yes I think so too. Small parts for Z432 is every restorer’s issue . However I want everyone to know S20 Engine is very exciting, you will be satisfied even if some small parts which are required Z432 are missing. Thinking about selling , yes those parts should be installed as much as correct , it will boost its selling price higher .

Ian , yes , the seller of the replica wheel said “ race only , no support “ . I guess the seller is not convinced to pass the Japanese regulation which is applied for the wheels. But , race only , is it OK being less quality than regular use on the road ?

Yes , I was thinking same thing, we always love to discuss about what is original .

The seller of the Z432 has been a collector, also a owner of a Japanese old car shop . He owns two Z432R , also many racing goods has been sitting in the shop .

So , the wheels which are  shown in the picture would possibly be a real rally wheels , but anyway they are not original for the car .

This car must came with a FS5C71B (32010-E8753 ) transmission originally, but in the picture it is FS5C71A for Skyline GTR. A later big hole of the tunnel is acceptable for a  71A type 5 speed transmission as  we can see the rare transition from late 1971 up to Jan 1972 .

According to my data , this car PS30-00521 was delivered to a female on June 9th 1972 . Just information for someone who is interested in the bidding.

So if someone wanted a set of the rally wheels for show (mostly), who should they contact? Are these in production yet?

I have been looking for along time. Would like a set of Portuguese mags, but even those I can’t find. Maybe I am looking in the wrong places?

I hear these wheels trade for the prices listed in this thread, but from what I have seen they are not available for any price. It’s discouraging that they are so unobtainable when there is apparently a market.

Thanks for the great post!
