Unless you’ve been living under a rock you probably know that a little TV program called*Breaking Bad*is heading chaotically towards its series finale. Only six episodes of the show remain and filming has already wrapped. That’s why one of its … Continue reading →

Those little 4WD Tercels are unstoppable in snow country. 200-300k miles is common on them, as are ignitor failures. The rear of 'em looks like a TV screen.

They "out-Subaru'd" the Subarus, which are notorious for head gasket failures. Not enough ground clearance for off-road or seriously deep snow, but for everyday snow

and ice driving they were terrific, if fugly.

My first car! i guess I am bad?

It had inclinometers on the dash and extra low... I pulled stuck trucks out of snow banks many times. Mine was gold and brown with a plaid interior....I loved the wedge bolsters on the seats....oh yeah, it had great styling : an ATM attached to to the back door.

I got pulled over once for being too rusty (including the rear licence plate) LOL

That 1983 model is my current daily driver! You know that 85 HP 1.5 liter engine can really move that car if you wait around an hour and a half. I bet I could hit close to 90 on a straight stretch with no tail wind. It gets 29 MPG. My Z car seems like a rocket by comparison but the Tercel has been reliable beyond belief. First engine went to 303,000 miles before compression got too low. Mine is brown with plaid interior.

Cool to have the car in common! I just saw one in Maine a couple of weeks ago and walked around it twice.

Yeah I could tell the difference in gas quality with its massive HP. I could hold 100kph on local highway hills with the higher octane, the cheap gas would cause me to gear down to 4th on the same hills.

5 people learned to drive standard on that original clutch... it went at 300,000km, original timing belt went at 330,000km....what neglect :) The only time it left me stranded on the road was when the condenser went. A 15min wait to cool and back at it again. the carbs iced a few times when the pipe from the manifold rusted off.

Yes, you are the only other person I have known who drove one though I see them around. Got mine in 1994. Hasn't left me stranded yet but did have to put in a front main seal on the original engine. I have seen better looking Tercel wagons in the JY. My rusty rims and paint down to the primer are theft deterrents. Gave a real estate lady a ride once and she said "I am not gonna judge this car". The cop who gave me a ticket once looked at me as if he were worried I was going to be able to pay it. Fuel pump had to be replaced. Gas pedal stuck to the floor once at a stop sign making a fairly impressive spinning tire show leaving smoke in the air in the seconds it took me to turn the key off. THAT was exciting.

heh heh I thought you were kidding but that is a real car.

The spinning tires made it hard to steer and I wound up on the shoulder on the opposing traffic side of the road. It was early in the morning with no other traffic so no damage was done.
