Recommended Posts

Got a little something yesterday :)

por15.sized.jpg

Solvent, metal ready, tie-coat primer, metal mask,

marine clean, epoxy putty, por patch, por-15 silver,

por-15 semi gloss black & por-15 clear.

Might come in handy when dealing with this rusty heap :P

After looking at this project, my '71 "rust free" California 240Z was a creme puff. I had a bit of surface rust under the battery and that was it. I guess I was just lucky. Good luck in saving this rusty ol'Datsun. Another one SAVED!

Another one SAVED!

It's getting there! :classic:

Here are some vidcaps from the video called MULL@SCE3.avi ...

The hatch plate was all eaten through by rust. Out with the old. In with

the new! Many thanks to Zedd Findings for keeping great parts in stock!

The hatch was fixed. The molds for the carbon won't come off no wreck

as long as I have a say in the matter /The perfectionist. :P

I know everyone knows this, but... Please caulk the car whenever you put on new panels. I had the rear deck replaced because it was bubbling in the right corner. I sealed it up big time before it was painted. There will not be any water seeping into my z. It is very water tight. I sealed the side vents, too. Water just seeps in these places and eventually rusts the metal. I hope you are doing the same on your car. No one wants this to happen again in another 15 years. Seal it for eternity, is my motto!

New movie; The short story on how I got my Z - and fetching it. And stripping it. And sending it to be sand blasted :)

Guess I'm spoiled here in Arizona... bought 2 240 Z project cars (70 and 72) that had been sitting 10+ years and no rust to speak of... 72 for $700 and 70 for $400. You are a braver man than I.

Wicked! That's dirt cheap. You know, if I was living in the US, I'd have at

least 5 240z's sitting in a garage. Over here, there's about 50 or so in total,

registered, cruising around. Average cost is about $7.000 or so :ermm:

Since I got a PM pointing out how there's no bends or anything in the floor (there are

actually - near the rocker panels there's 3 bends) I thought I might point out that the

floors aren't finished. Haven't gotten my rotissery shipped to the workshop yet.

When I do - these will be added underneath - as well as a sub frame.

Plus, the mounting "beams" for the seats will do their part...

The new battery tray is taking form...

Rust cut away and replaced with new metal - welds to be introduced to the grinder...

Same as above, drivers side!

Grind grind grind...

Some POR-15 applied =)

The metal plate with the X was 6 mm thick (!!!)...

...and behind it, this was hiding - a bloody hinge! Decision to make new rails came swiftly.

Reinforcement for the hatch plate...

...mounted in this pic.
