How Fast Is Fast To You?

    Recommended Posts

I see alot of you talking about going fast. I was just wondering how fast, fast is to everyone? I personally love speed, my top was 189 mph in a Z06, might have gotten close to 200 but ran out of road. :ermm: ohh well there is always another time to try!

    Holy crap....189mph in a Z06...what is a Z06? I've been 145mph in a Ferrari 348TS with the targa's off and over 500mph in a aeroplane.

How fast have you been in a zed?

In a car? We had a thread over at the Nova board like this ( what the fastest you have ever gone) The winner ? A payload specialist from the shuttle Discovery took the prize at 17,000 MPH plus.

I knew this girl once-she has all of them beat!

    In a Z, 137mph in 1976 280Z2+2 automatic(the blue one in my gallery) with a L28ET.

In a professionally modified BMW Z4, 156 mph on a city street-I was not driving-nor will I get back in any car with the jackass unless he does not drive-you don't just open the door and let youself out over 35mph.

Like i said my best was 189 in a Z06 corvette, 144 in my 1967 firebird, 141 in my 1999 camaro, 178 on a yamaha R1 champion edition (although I was there when my cousin shut it off at 198mph) , and so far around 90 in the Z before I get to scared because it shakes like a motherfo!!

The fastest I have been is about 150mph as a passenger in a Corvette. The fastest I have personally driven was 130mph. I was racing and a car pulled out on the road. After my life passed before my eye’s I promised myself I never would do it again.

189? yeah thats fast - a matter of fact TOO fast for a Z06, the manufacturer states a 2004 commerative edition Z06 Corvette's top speed for 171 mph.

Fast is keeping the other guy in your rearview mirror, on the race track where excessive speed belongs. :knockedou JLP

The week I got my license, I took the family maxima out and easly made 100 on a nice strip of road. I could have gone more, but my better judgement slapped me in the face first! For me, on skinny two lane roads 60 feels quick, but on the highway, 85 feels like a slug. I have never driven the 240 really fast, plus it has been sleeping in the garage since I got my license in january.

The maxima has been my only car to drive enthusiastically, but it cornners well and is relatively fast. I just hate it because it shifts like slop, not at all as crisp as the Z :)

Airplane for me too. I've been to about 300 kts in a race plane myself once. I pulled back on the throttle when the needle went off the scale- didn't want to break it. LOL My dad's Cessna 182 with the new engine cruises at about 150 kts (about 170 MPH), on 1/2 throttle.

FYI, did you know r/c sailplanes can go over 250 mph? No engine needed there. but it does take a little time to get enough altitude.

IF YOU WERE IN THE 700 mph area and

if you were driving at 186 MPH the wrong directon you would actually going backwards 514 MPH !!!!!!!!!!!!

    I don't think so...

I think you'd be going 186 MPH, only in the wrong direction. But according to your way of thinking, you'd only be going 514 MPH in the same direction as before (only slower)

It depends on your relative point-of-viewing. You'd have to be watching yourself go from some other point, as in geosynchronous orbit. But at about 24,000 miles away, you'd need a telescope to see yourself. To be going backwards 514 MPH , you'd have watch yourself to going 700 + 514 = 1214 MPH in the opposite direction.

OK OK so I meant In a Car?? LOL
OK, in a car then, but you didn't say that in your original question. People need to think more, talk less. Hence the saying, "Light travels faster than sound, so he looked smart until he opened his mouth."

So if you were going 700 mph in the 'wrong direction' you'd be standing still?

(No answer needed, I'm just being obtuse) :devious:

With the tops off, you must have had a fair bit of wind- not the time to take out your roadmap. What kind of airplane was that, Mustang? Spitfire? Mine was in a Casset.

Agreed. Going fast on the race track helps get the need for speed out of your system.

Fastest in a Z: About 125 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Because of the walls looming, it felt fast, too. BTW, we don't lift going into turn 3, unlike those NASCAR wimps.
