Recently i stumblet upon this blog Post from my mate @florian at Datsun-Autowerk, where he claims that some Z's had a secret spare key box in the front radiator frame crossmember thing. After asking a bit more, he said that he had seen it on two cars so far. I had a closer look at my currently sandblasted frame, but no indications that it ever had it nor that it was modified at some point.. So we checked our R-drive manuals. it seems there were three types of front crossmembers, but none of them ever had a box, according to the drawings: Same with the L-Drive: We couldn't find anything in the "keys" section of the Parts m…

As I am a week away from taking the car to the painter, I find myself looking online at silver 240z's. Examining the original factory 901 silver on the inside of my tool door, I am having difficulty many of the cars I see online which have been painted "901" silver. While lighting can certainly play a role, is it possible that some people take a bit of liberty with silver - and choose something a bit less grey? For example, my other Z is silver too. Just - not 901 silver:

Front turn signal lamps arrived today. Very nice quality in my opinion. Rubber gaskets and the wiring looks great. Here are some pics. Now I just have to find the correct female plug fromVintage.

just to let the forum members know I have a 260z with the 2 lift struts for the hatch. today I did install the Stabilus brand strut part # is 3b250273 and the hatch opens up 95% on its own. after I push the button to open the hatch, I raised it maybe 3-4" and it goes all the way to the top. what a difference. I believe the force is 44lbs for each strut and it does close really easy. just an update for the forum.

In all the video installs I looked at, they seem to have issues with the spoiler dropping/warping - the 280Z has a valance that the spoiler sits against, if you don't remove it.. Clamped the middle to secure it, marked & drilled the 4 outer end attachments. Instead of futzing with nuts & bolts, I just used M6 stainless rivnuts & M6 sems screws For the leading edges, I used plastic body clips instead of bolts Added two rivnuts to the center section to anchor it All together (for now). I have a tall Skillard grille coming, and…

Hi guys, mine is a 77 280z the original color is this blue and the second owner had it yellow. I need to go back to the original as all inside and engine bay is still blue and I like this color too. door and engine plates are too faded to tell anything. Is there any other place to look for paint code. Can someone help me identify this color.

Found this lower radiator support in a parts pile that has me befuddled once more….. I know the 2 clips for mounting the Japanese market 432 air filter on the drivers right side, but this piece has the same small clips on the passenger side left lower radiator support. What was mounted on this side before 1974 ?

The enemy of good is better. I'm not sure how things snowballed but now I'm here - and loving every minute of it. So far I've burned in: Inner /outer rocker panels on the driver's side Inner dogleg lower on the driver's side Rear driver's wheel tub Driver's floor, frame rail, toe boards, and rear quarter are next. Then onto the passenger! Question for those of you that have put your Z's on a rotisserie: I need to replace the passenger chasis rail (that connects the firewall to the radiator support). Can I do that on the rotisserie? Or would you recommend it on jackstands/a jig if I can make one?

Ok, so I have my 78 that is finally getting to the last tidbits of restoration and it just dawned on me that I did not take care in documenting the positions of all of the various factory decals when I tore the car down. The FSM only shows vague pictures but without measurements. I searched the forums and found some great shots of the 240 Radiator and Color Code -but that is about it. So my fellow Zed-Heads, I am asking for your assistance. Can you please post pictures of the locations the various factory decals on your Z's AND be sure to include a tape measure to a nearby panel or structure so that I can get the orientation correct! I know that this might seem a b…
