Got this car off my buddys cousin for the cost of fuel to grab it. It's got lots of goodies for it and a rebuilt 3.0 stroker but it's also got a lot of rust in all the wrong places. My experience with vehicles is generally wheeling and building trucks. I've done some sheet metal work and have all the tools necessary bit i have no idea where to start or if I should bother.... See attached pics of the worst and hardest repair. The rest is basic metal cut n fit. What are these top frames called. Can they be fixed? I've seen a couple cars with these cut off and tubed.... Hello all! I rarely post in the body work section as so far I have not had anything more serious than a dab of underbody rust that POR-15 took care of. So I have been thinking of removing my front air dam and going back to the stock front end with a Spook air dam (BRE style). I know there are many places to get one of these, but what I do not have is all the body work underneath my bumper like the side pieces and front center valence connecting them. They are just not there, as my air dam was installed when purchased new according to the paperwork and bill of sale. Here is my current config. Where can I find those front three pieces of bodywork if I decide to go …

Hi fellow members, I have been searching the forum and although I can find a lot of info about replacing the bumpers I can't find much about replacing the valences. My plan was to buy the fibreglass bumpers, fit them, if everything went well replace them with the Stainless steel bumpers from Harrington. Datsun 240Z and 260Z Bumpers | Harrington Group Fitting the front bumper was easy, but it left a big open area between the small two bar grill and the bumper. I knew there was a hight differance between the 240 and the 280 valences and decided to go down that road. The height difference was more than I expected. The 240Z is so much highe…

I found this thread on hybridz and thought I would give the Kia Sportage door weatherstip a try. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=153925&highlight=sportage I bought new. It works great! Looks close to stock. No door adjustment needed. Very nice.

Here is a perfect example of early and later JDM headlight covers. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-240Z-260z-280z-Headlight-covers-New-OEM-Nissan-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem45f6d8ae5eQQitemZ300494138974QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories The right one in the picture is for the driver's side and it is the early one with more round shape lense with different hole pattern. Left one is for the passenger side and it is the later design. If you had the same side but different version of the light covers, the lenses are not interchangable. Reproduction ones from Japan were made based on the early ones.....I wish someone made a late model lenses for spares..…

In an effort to rid my car of exhaust fumes coming in I disassembled just about everything related to the hatch vent system and removed the taillight trim panel to see what the taillight gaskets looked like. The TL gaskets are shot so I will be ordering new gaskets for them. The hatch vents were removed at some point in the car's history and re-installed using rivets which has bugged be ever since I bought it. With everything apart I realize I am missing the U-shaped clips that hold they hatch ducts against the body and the barrel clips the actually hold the chrome vent grilles. I have a good idea what the U-shape clips look like but need some measurements if anyone h…

I am trying to figure out the exact stock paint "plan" for an early series 1 engine. I would like to know what pulleys are painted blue, which ones are natural or plated, what adjusting arms are painted blue, which ones are left natural or plated cadmium, what color was the air pump inlet painted or plated, Fan clutch finish, etc. If anybody has all the details I would greatly appreciate the time spent to detail it here. Thank you!

Hey guys, so I posted originally about these in my rusthole thread. Ive found these pictures today and want some z enthusiast responses before I decide my route. I was going to do my best to re create the air horns that go over the wheels but it WILL suck. This guys has cut them off and sheeted it in which add rigidity in the vertical load plane but will it cause weakness that one should consider in the lateral plane? This would be the easy way out, And yes I understand these are the fresh ait vents on this year of car but Im not picky about it either way. windows down will be drafty enough. Thoughts

A few pictures to document my exterior refresh. The subject is my '71 240Z, #37705, 905 red. The car currently has just over 64,000 miles on it, and is rust free as it has been garaged its entire life, has seldom seen wet roads, no snow, and no road salt. Here are a couple of before pictures. Bear in mind that the car looks much better in pixels (or from 10 feet or more) than it did in person. It had many small flaws. A couple of scrapes to bare metal, lots of rock chips on the nose, and 37 years of very small door dings. Not to mention that the 905 red has faded so much that it really looks like 110, the later orangy-red.

I am a little confused. I was at a local paint dealer talking about ppg paints and have decided to go with the DP line of epoxy primers (I have already acid etched the car) and I had a sample of the 920 Gold made up from the PPG formula in the computer. I brought it home and applied some to an area that did not get sunlight of the last 40 years and the color was alot browner than the stock color. To be honest it looks a lot different than alot of the 920 Gold cars I see online. I also hear it refered to as Safari Gold. Is Safari Gold and 920 Gold the same color or was the early series 1 gold different than the 71 920 gold? Thanks, John

I spent most of the day stripping my silver '71 in prep for paint. I am figuring it will take about two or three weeks to get it ready ( Unfortunately that usually means four to six REAL week). I should be able to finish the part strip tomorrow (Friday) and then begin sanding and rust repair. The one glitch I ran into was the front and rear glass removal. I was thinking I could get a glass company to come and remove them for me for about $40. Unfortunately, the first place I called wanted more than double that amount to remove the front and rear glass.:disappoin The second place said they don't work on old cars. So, I think I will read some of the treads here …
