I'm trying to put SU carbs on a 280 engine that I put into my 72 240. The PO had a 4 barrel carb conversion that deleted all the pedal to carb linkages and I now have a bunch of parts I've found but no reference as to how they all go together. Honestly, I need a good kick in the arse more than anything else since the car has been sitting in my garage for close to 2 years and I have made minimal progress. I would be great to find a few local Z guys willing to come by and point me in the right direction and help motivate me to dive back in. I haven't stumbled across any Bay Area Z clubs that are still active. If you know of any in the San Jose Area, let me know.

After an unfortunate coolant leak yesterday, I decided to tune the carbs up. I followed the FSM directions, set the mixture to about 2 turns out (5000 feet, 88°F out), synced 'em up at idle and 3000RPM, and gave it a quick rip around the block to see how it felt (great!). This morning, I set out to drive the car to work, and it ran horribly. Backfiring, misfiring, all manner of bad behavior. The water temp and oil pressure were about the same as yesterday afternoon when I took off, so the only difference I can think of is the temperature (60°F). With the choke all the way on, the misfire issue was taken care of, but not the backfires. The FSM indicates leaner operat…

Hey everyone, so I finally got my Z to daily driver status. I've been driving it pretty much every day for a couple weeks now and have noticed a few small problems I want to try and take are of. My idle sometimes likes to stick at 1500-2000+ range, I assume this is the BCDD causing this problem. What's the easiest way to fix this? Try and adjust it or just hook a 12V source. Will the driving change if i decide to get rid of it or will my rpms just drop faster and not hang around 2k sometimes. But other times when I put it into neutral and come to a stop by cars idle will drop to around the 500-600 range. I've herd of the BCCD causing high idles but what could be causing a…

OK, here goes a long car story - I recently decided to get my 1978 280Z 2+2 running again after sitting in a garage for about 5 years. The car was purchased new in 1978 by my mother, and became mine in my teenage years. It stayed at home when I went to college, and other than being started occasionally in the summer months, it has sat in place for about 5 years. After getting insurance put back on it, I replaced the previously frozen battery that wouldn't hold a charge. The gasoline had varnished so I drained that, replaced the fuel filter, and eventually ended up replacing the fuel pump as I wasn't getting any gas to the engine. I cleaned out the lines, replaced rub…

The pot metal casing (notch) on both driver and passenger door lock cylinders have worn so much that the throw of the lever is not enough to unlock the doors anymore. Can these be rebuilt or replaced? Would like to keep the same key as the ignition. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks! John

Okay guys, finally after years my new motor starts, but with some issues. I believe I got my dizzy off by one tooth, but need some verification of some stuff first. I had to rotate plug wires one plug to get it to run right enough to adjust timing, but still i'm not lined up with the adjustment slot to tighten down. The picture shows TDC position of rotor. It seems that i need to rotate the rotor CCW one tooth to get a perfect line up on the cap and be in the adjsutment slot range on base. So I need to drop the oil pump and rotate the shaft to acheive this-correct? It probably only needs to move 1/4" at best, will I achieve this in one tooth. I want to make sure before i …

I am about to replace all original bushings on my 1971 240. The question I have is this, the car, in my minds eye was design perfectly so that said should the bushings be replaced with poly rather than rubber and if so would there be a noticeable degradation in performance? I am thinking not, but just for the sake of argument, what do you'all think?

Help! I finally have the body shop guy working on my car and he has asked for some parts that I can't find. I haven't been able to find anyone that still sells the parts. The parts are from the inner workings. It has to do with the door mechanism. There is a pivot point between the inner door handle and the door latch. There is a bolt, a nut, a washer and a bushing type thing that holds the pivot point. I have attached a picture. It is the best I can do right now but I need all the parts associated with the parts labelled 4. I know the bolt is a 6mm bolt. I am pretty sure I can find a replacement for the bolt, the nut and the washer. The part that I don't know w…

I need help from local 240z - 280z owners. (Dallas, Texas) Long story short, my 1976 280z was transported from LA to Dallas. During the transportation, my car was damaged. The roof is dented and scratched. The entire hatch glass is broken, several dents and scratched area. I’ve called around few local Nissan dealerships and none of them are willing to provide repair/parts estimate due to the age of the vehicle. So, where the heck can I take my car in to get an estimate?

I have not been around in a while, Ive been busy. Working on an IS300 project at the moment. Since its no longer raining and sunny most of the time. I decided to start driving my Z car for the summer again. I need to know if anyone local in the beaverton Oregon or Hillsboro area are willing to take a quick peak at my carbs. Someone with an air flow meter so I can balance them and then sync the carburetors together. The car seems to be running reasonably good. Except at lower rpms it has a very slight miss-fire and at higher rpms it shakes under full load. It also diesels from time to time, but since I've been running premium gas, it has stopped. Fast facts about my car ar…
