Any chance someone could measure the distance between the two muffler hanger frame mounts? My Inboard mount was broken off the frame. Of course, I forgot to reweld it prior to undercoating, and I cant recall the exact location as I did too good a job repairing the area 🙂 Picture attached that i got off the net with the needed measurement as a red line. Second picture of the piece I need to weld. If you have a good picture of how it is oriented that would be great. Many thanks.

So, basically I was thinking about this today and thought it would be a great discussion topic. The question came up as I was working on my Z again this year. Are there some things I would have done differently in my older age and, if I could advise my younger self, what would it be? Related to the topic of this forum, of course.

Seems a prolific 240Z car and parts collector in Florida is selling up lots of original Datsun parts on EBay. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?item=275781539731&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.m3561.l2562&_ssn=jim240z3cgt Some of the unobtanium bits posted so far.

As my winter project wraps up, am about to put motor back into my Z(12/70). Had removed the water pump to clean and inspect. Other than some numbers (579) I was unable to find any OEM markings on the water pump. Is there any way to determine if it’s original?

Just figured it was time for clean thread on this. I used a NTK25572 single wire O2 sensor for the ECU AEM wide band gauge and sensor for the read out Stock ECU, PRW-2 for the ignition transistor (and the correct transistor as well for testing). Aftermarket CAS (NTK) due to OE flaking out. the rest is all stock (turbo/CHTS/Knock sensor, Idle air control (vacuum modulator to control it), EGR.

Long story. I installed the rear diff on my 3/72 restoration. Later I found another new diff insulator on the shelf. The one I installed was Part #55415-E4102. Seemed to fit fine. I know now this insulator is from an early 240, and I must have had it in some old parts left over from another restoration. So I swapped the E4102 with the proper insulator, as I figure someone would likely need it in the future. As I scratched my head trying to figure out why both insulators seemed to fit fine, I started digging through some really old stuff looking for a diff crossmember to compare. I didnt find one, but I found this muffler part and I cant figure out where it is from. I t…

I found these spark plugs wires in a box of Z parts I've probably had stored for over 25 years...and I'm trying to decide whether to keep them, sell them, or throw them away. They are made by Sumitiomo. Two of the spark plug boots are angled (#1 and #6). They all measure under 8K resistance (it looks like they are labeled 16K). Additionally they are labeled "1986". As you can see from the photos they are in very good overall condition. Though I can't remember, I'm thinking that I must have removed/replaced them with aftermarket wires at some point. Can anyone tell me if these are unusual, special or rare in any way for Datsun Z cars? (mine is a 78). Was this plug wi…

I have been reading posts and videos claiming the u-joints can ve replaced using the rockford 430-10 ujoint. Fact is it CANT be replaced. The 430 had a lock of 1.4", yolk on a 280z is 1.6", its too big. No one makes a ujoint that matches. Some post said a guy used a place in portland that did it for $100. I called the shop and they said it cant be done. Lesson: dont believe what you read in the internet.

In one of our storage sheds, I found an old 1974 (early) oem exhaust. It has been in the rafters since 1975 or so. My dad bought a new 260 and in short time, swapped the carbs and exhaust. I test fit it and it fits well. I need to source a chrome tip and a couple of hangers. I am thinking of painting the rear exhaust and resonator black, but I cant decide if I should just clean the pipes up as best I can, or hit them with some silver. Or should I keep the header pipe and scrap the rest? I think it would be neat to have an original exhaust, assuming the entire inside isnt completely trashed. Any thoughts?

Not sure where or when I got this, but I found it in a stash of stuff I was going through that I've had for years. I know it's incorrect to think of him designing the car, but where would this come from? It's a grill badge, and really good quality.

I previously produced and sold about 120 sets out, over a five year period. I'm giving serious consideration to producing another batch, but wanted to gauge interest first, as my cost is rather steep and I don't want to get stuck with a mess of them. These are OEM quality or better, with the mold marks for left and right sides and come with install instructions and fasteners. I expect the price to be in the area of $130 a pair. Those of you who have purchased some of the first batch will hopefully vouch for the quality. Any interest?
