So many Z's, of all numerologies, have popped up that I thought it might be good to collect them here. Feel free to add old or new stuff. There's a bunch out there right now, for some reason. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1975-datsun-280z-26/ https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1976-datsun-280z-38/ https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/64614-1270-on-ebay-barn-find/ https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/62501-brand-new-280z/ https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/64653-1970-nissan-fairlady-z-hs30-03647-on-craigslist/ https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/64539-31k-miles-series-i-240z-up-for-auction-on-bat-over-100k-on-first-…

Hello all, I am going to document my build. Basically I have a garage kept series 1 240z. That hasn't driven since 1986, it needed brakes which she couldn't afford so it has sat since. It was resprayed in the 80s as well. Some bad overspray but overall it's a very rust free car. I actually found it in my neighbors garage. My goal is to drive it and enjoy it, but it needs some TLC. First and foremost I got it running, and that is when I made the decision to keep it and I have fallen in love. I will keep it mostly original, minus some brakes upgrades, wheels and BC coilovers. Maybe someday have a built motor for it, but not for now. Every…

Hey guys, I have owned my 1971 240Z for around 12 months now, but this week I have finally been able to start work on it. I have been going hard on my other project, a 1973 Porsche 911 RSR inspired build, but I am waiting for custom engine parts, so I can finally start my Z project. I bought the car as someones failed project, so it was completely stripped. Everything is there though, and it is an amazingly clean, rust free shell, so it should make for a great project. This week I first needed to replace the front wheel bearings on the 911 so I could put wheels on it and move it out of the way. I then got into doing a stocktake on my Z to see what it needed…

Hello, I wanted to post a build thread to document the process of my restoration. I have a 1975 280Z that I purchased off a local craigslist ad. Heres the ad. Ive wanted one of these cars since I was in high school and was looking for one that was in decent shape without too much rust and that was running. I went and looked at this one and thought it was in pretty good shape. It had a little rust but I was thinking most of it was surface rust. I took it for a test drive and instantly fell in love. The motor was solid, brakes worked, and it cruised down the highway nice and straight. It felt like a great starting point for my project......so I thought. Here she is the…

Well, the last restoration went so well I think it's time to do another one. I am actually restoring this '73 240Z for a gentleman up in the Bay Area. He is the original owner of the Z and a friend of the Orange Z owner whose car I recently completed. We will pretty much go through the same process and restore this one to it's original condition including the original flat tops. Actually the flat tops are one of the first things we discussed on the phone and I was thrilled that he wanted to have those put back on (I would have a hard time restoring a '73 and putting on the round tops). So, attached are some pics of what we have to work with. I will document t…

I've been lurking here and some of the other Z boards for a while, and after wanting a project car for basically my entire life, I finally pulled the trigger a couple weeks back so I guess it's time to join; hope y'all have room for one more! So here it is, my new 1978 Z, as it looked when I brought it home: I scoured CL for a while and any reasonably-priced cars were getting snatched up in hours. I checked out a handful of cars in my desired price range and they were all projects well outside my budget or capabilities, so when I found this one I jumped on it. It looked pretty good, and I knew it would be some work, but have uncovered some unexpected su…

Seems like I just finished restoring my 918 orange 1971 240Z and now I have another one to work on. This one however is a friends car and not mine personally. And coincidentally, this one is also 918 orange. They are virtual twins, although my friends is the series III 1971 while mine is an earlier Series II, so there are a few differences. The serial numbers are off by about 9000 units. Anyway, The car is in pretty reasonable shape and I think it would start with very little effort. It has not run for about 5 years so I definitely will need to go through the fuel lines eventually. The plan here is to document the restoration so that my friend can watch the…

After reading how close texasz and daddz VINS are, I thought it would be kind of neat to see if any other members here have Z's that might be consecutive. Here are my VIN's 1972 240Z production date 05/72 VIN#HLS3080428 1977 280Z production date 12/76 VIN#HLS30366953 1977 280Z production date 01/77 VIN#HLS30374288 (Scarab) Vicky

So I decided to fab up some new front rails for the Z.. What is the worst that can happen, right? (Answer: waste some time, buy a proper set from a vendor). So why not? Step 1 ? Step 2 - Pretty much committed now .... Step 3 - make a pattern and a cheap test piece from some leftover 20 ga Step 4 - game time ...18 ga Step 5 - bend them up.... This was way harder than it looks. My cheapo metal brake was at capacity, and several teeth had to be removed, inserted and realigned in order to make all the bends. But it seemed to work. z Step 6 - test fit …

I'm about to tear this motor out and then apart. It's kind of hard to do because it runs pretty good today but I can't trust a 43 year old motor's stamina, so here I go. I think updating this thread with the progression of the build will save my butt from mistakes with the help of the forum. My plan is to remove the carbs first then the head and then block and transmission. I know the basics, label and bag everything and clean, clean, clean. I did my 280 a couple of years ago with step by step instructions from Tom Monroe. I'm feeling a little sick knowing what I'm about to do but these beers are helping. Thanks, Cliff
