So I know I have a mech fuel pump on my 260z but few days after I picked it up and driving the hell out of it! I started to hear this sound that kinda like a slow air pump for a fish tank! and its in the location of the electric fuel pump but looks like nothing stock and is a small box thats wired in! and has fuel lines running to it! Its now making a kinda odd knocking sound as if its dieing! but i'm not sure if I even need it!

What is the proper torque setting for stock intake and exhaust manifold nuts on a 240Z? I searched and one person said 8-11.6 ft lbs in one thread. Another said 10-13 ft lbs for "small size" nuts and 25-36 lbs for "larger" nuts. All of the nuts are 12mm, except one that holds the fuel rail on is 13mm. The Haynes manual says 8 ft lbs. I can't find anything listed in the FSM. -Mike

My 260z has been sitting a while. I started it and it runs ok for the first minute, then just seems to die. Should I start with the fuel systems or the electrical?

Do I need a dashpot for my 76 z if I swap from auto trans to manual? Or can I rig a spring on the throttle? From what I've read, the dashpot does something with the throttle release,etc... Thanks

I just pulled the head from my 260. The piston tops seemed to have what I called non-carbonized oil. In English this would be oil that can by wiped off to expose the piston top below. As in the photos. My concerns are do the pistons tell a story that rings are worn because the oil is not burnt onto the pistons to the degree that it cannot be wiped clean with a dry rag. I have read that if the pistons have a clean ring around the perimeter that mean s the oil is slipping by the rings and coming over the top of the piston. My photos do not seem to indicate this...however the car has been sitting in a hot Arizona garage not running for 6 months. Does this matter. In any case…

In my continuing quest to install my first engine in a car I am lining up the parts to drop a 75 2.8l engine in my 72 240z. Unfortunately, the previous owner and friend had converted the original 2.4l engine to a 4 barrel carb set up with too large a carb that ended up over revving and breaking. I am putting SU carbs onto my the 75 2.8l engine that I found but all the original linkage from the accelerator to the carb assembly is gone. I have the linkage on the carbs themselves that ends at the U shaped part with the hole in it. What I am missing is the assembly that runs from the accelerator to the through the firewall and twists the U shaped part to actuate the carbs.…

On my 280Z, the trans (Jatco 3NL41B) will only kickdown occasionally under high vacuum conditions (at any speed), and I've never heard the kickdown solenoid clicking, so I checked it out. BTW- the trans was totally 'rebuilt' a couple years ago, and only has about 2,000 niles on it since. I checked the voltage at the switch: 12.2 volts, which is just a hair less than the battery. Then I put a shunt wire direct from the battery to the solenoid wire where the switch is on the gas pedal. Still no solenoid click. If the kickdown solenoid does work, then the only thing I can think of is that the solenoid doesn't have a god ground. Since I can't get under the car, I wil…

I have a 77 280Z that I recently adjusted the valves on, Hot - I -.10, E .12. Seems to run OK but I have what sounds like a miss (puff-puff) at the exhaust. The only problem is that I found out the the head is a P-79 off of a 81-83 ZX. My question is, I think I know the answer, shouldn't I adjust the valves to the ZX settings, Hot I .25, E .30. Thanks
