Hey guys, I have a 1978 280z and the head lights went out on me. I have no high or low beams. I checked the fuses ( they are fine ). I checked the bulbs ( they are fine ). So my guess is it has to do with the wiring. I also heard that this was a common problem among Z's. But it has left me clueless. If anyone has any idea please let me know. P.S All the other lights work fine, back and front.

I have a situation will the car will not charge. Started with a bouncing amp guage, thought bad alt or voltage regulator, replaced both with new. No charging. Car will start and run on just the battery, accessories work. Fusable link at starter has continuity. Took replacement Alt back to parts store got another one (5 day wait) put it on, no difference. Tried old voltage regulator with new alt, no difference. I have continuity to the W/R to the fusebox. So I have old alt and regulator and new alt and voltage regulator. AMP guage will show negative if you turn on accessories but will not show a positive charge with any combination of parts. I looked for links o…

Thanks to Dave from Zs-Ondabrain I now have excellent lights throughout my 77 280. I purchased Dave's headlight wiring harness and parking light wiring harness upgrade. Very simple install. I would have to say at least 50% brighter now. That includes all dash lights. I can drive my Z again at night! If you are thinking about doing the upgrade, do it! Dave also rebuilt my combo switches. Was having electrical problems with them before Dave fixed them. It takes a lot to impress me and I am impressed. Thanks Dave. Bob. can anyone make out the pic of my Z or is it too small to see?

Hi, I need help. I have a late 73 240 Z with intermittent wipers and an electric fuel pump. I just put in the dash a day or two ago and have been having electrical issues. I’m not sure if I have all the relay/harness connection right. The lights all work, the blower works, the hazards work the car runs but will not turn off with the key. When the motor is stopped, there is no voltage on the coil. The wipers work to a point, the intermittent setting gives me low speed, low speed gives me low speed and hi gives me hi speed. Can someone confirm if the small group of wires that has the Fuel pump fuse on one end and the relay block on the other all goes to the relay with the…

I'm looking to upgrade my alternator and I don't have access to my Z at the moment. Is it the same distance as the "J Mount" alternators? Are the feet 80mm (3.15") or 100mm (3.95") apart? Thanks in advance,

I installed a new 240z motor and new alternator. When I connect the F N wires to the alternator and turn the key to the on position the amp meter goes to -45 amps and the ignition fuse blows. What can I test to see if the new alternator is bad.

I have read these forums all day. For literally hours (I started around 11am today, and while I have't been at it constantly, I must have covered nearly every thread on this site dating back to 2004). Everything I've read said 'it shouldn't work.' I bought a 'new' wiring harness for my Series-1 (2/'70). I also bought one of the AM/FM radios from the later models, since I wasn't willing to shell out for the original. It'd be great to have, but supply & demand has wrought havoc on the market for those things. $350...? Reading up today, the early wiring harness should not be compatible (hook-ups, that is) with this AM/FM radio. But out of curiosity, I pulled al…

Hello Guys, I need some help. I got all the electrical components working except for this center console or dash unit. Photo is attached. I cannot see the harness or wire that it need to be attached. Please send me photos where it is in your cars and where or what I need to do to get it connected. I would at least need photos or instructions what wrires I need to connect it to to get this unit working. I aslo need a wiper motor because I now discovered that mine does not work. Forgive my green question as I'm relatively new to Datsuns. Heater blower and choke/seat belt/defrost lights don't work. Are these on the same fuse? All fuses look intact. Are these issues potentially linked in any way? Could it be a fusible link that's melted? I may be stretching on this one.
