Positive offset + wheel spacer = "simulated 0 offset" ?

Hey ya'll,

I have 14" stock rims and just ordered 205/60/R15 tires, so I need a new set of 15" wheels. I'm looking for 7" in diameter. I don't like the 2 or 3 options there are for 15x7's with 0 offset, and I'm trying to keep the tire track pretty close to stock. So it got me wondering.....

 

If I bought a wheel with 25mm (about 1") POSITIVE offset, but then combined it with a 25mm wheel spacer, wouldn't that simulate "0mm offset" in terms of clearance with calipers, brakes, spindle, etc.?

If yes, then this would be nice as it would give me more wheel options by using an 1" thick adapter to change bolt pattern, or picking a wheel with positive offset in 4x114.3 pattern.

The spacers are prone to loosening. Is a spacer ideal no, can you do it yes. You introduce an additional check with the spacer. Maybe additional bearing load as well.

You will have to change all 16 of your wheel studs for a longer version so that means checking the torque on the nuts a couple of times in the first 20 miles or so until they settle in, BTDT.

Bolt on wheel spacers are available in that size (25mm) and will not require longer studs. I run 20mm spacers on my 370Z, no issues. Yet. YMMV

I run 2" spacers on the rear of my Nissan Xterra and have put them through a lot of off-road abuse without any issue. My concern is not the integrity of using spacers but moreso if I can achieve clearance from the suspension components that I want.

Looks like this dude on HybridZ has 38mm offset wheels and is running 38mm spacers. So I guess my theory is correct as his wheels look to be at the "stock" track.post-5380-0-98861000-1396029808.jpgpost-5380-0-79182100-1396029814.jpg

Of course. It seems you know you can run them and appears you even have the correct hub centric ones on your truck. 

Like anything else, people do things incorrectly and spacers are no different. For fun jump on YouTube and look at all the failures that have occurred.

Hello, I have a hybrid Z with an IMSA race series wide body kit. I had a really hard time finding Wheels trying to keep the four lug pattern. The only thing you might get out of putting in a wheel spacer it's probably bearing distortion. As the spacers are close to being balanced but not 100% percent.
It was either I spend approximately $5,000 on custom wheels or settling for a simpler wheel. I came across a relatively decent set of wheels with zero offset on eBay. As my car is 15 inch wider in rear stance and 8 inches wider in the front, was very hard finding rims. Overall I decided to go with a 9 inch wide, 16 inch rims, this gave me a very wide choice of tires in the extreme summer category. My car has the small block Chevrolet with 440 cubic inches, 700 + horsepower. So I wanted a really good aggressive tires.

Yeah, that's what I ultimately decided. I hate the 3 popular konig/enkei/rota wheels available for our cars in the stock offset/bolt pattern with 15" diameter. I decided to buy some wheels I actually liked with +15mm offset and I'll use a 25mm spacer giving about -10mm offset when done. The spacer and the wheel will be hub-centric at least. I can't afford custom wheels (especially when I'm not sure what my end  color is) if I want to do ANYTHING else to my car.

 

Btw your car is awesome! It looks so funny with the stock offset wheels in those big fenders though :D

We are currently installing camber plates front and rear and all four corners lower arms in Billet aluminum, 4-wheel Large disc brakes. That was one of the reasons for choosing a 16-inch rim for me, had to be wide enough diameter to fit the rotors and calipers.
